I have been noticing a trend lately, do i have to be in the same region as the person asnwering my question in the help channel in order for me to receive his/her answer? |

Pleased it wasn't just me that looked at that and went "Wat!"
As ElQuirko has also stated above: No, there is no regional cut off for chat channels. Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

it doesn't really matter the region you are in currently.
tho i understand that, with the absence of ISD these days, and the horde of drunken bittervets in the Help Channel, it's really hard for someone to find any help there |

It doesn't matter where you are in relation to them, however if you're not vigilant, you'll miss your answer.
As far as chances at getting your question answered.. that depends on the nature of the question, and how you phrase it, but usually it doesn't matter. The folks that actually answer questions are pretty knowledgeable.
Now, getting your question answered in any meaningful way is another thing entirely. lol There are some good folks there, but usually only 5 or 6 at a time. The rest are either just lurking, or being... non-helpful. If your question is yes or no, or fairly simple, it'll probably be answered quickly. If it's something debatable, more complex, or esoteric, then you'll either get an argument started, or be completely ignored. lol

ISD can usually be summoned, eventually, if need be. The problem is, instead of reporting/blocking the person, people argue with them. Then it goes on and on for some time before ISD show up. They give a few warnings, maybe mute someone, answer a question or two, and then....gone. They need a dedicated Help Channel presence. Chatting around when no questions are being asked is fine, but some of the stuff that goes on in there is... not for help. They need an "anything goes" channel or something.. |

This happens too. People need to realize it's a channel for giving and receiving help and general advice. It's not the proper place to debate the validity of, or the usefulness of game mechanics. That's what the forums are for. Unfortunately some people just cannot act rationally. They get into arguments and stupid happens. *shrug* |

I tried the help channel once when I was a noob, it was a waste of my time. The so called helpers just slagged me off and were really abusive when I asked a question about being killed in a gatecamp. They sweetened their tune when I threatened to complain to CCP about them. I've never been back there since, anyhow I asked the gate campers what I could have done differently and they gave me some really good advice and paid for my shiploss 5mill which to me was a fortune. They were great guys. I wish I had the sense to stay in touch with them. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

Don't threaten, just do. Threatening someone acting like a tool doesn't scare them. It only encourages them.
Some things just require too much information to be answered in a little chatbox that scrolls at 12au/s, so the people who actually answer questions will usually toss a link, leading to the information in question, and be done with it. Meanwhile, those people say whatever the hell they think will get a rise out of you. It tends to drown out the answers, and drive people off. Help needs Help, I don't disagree. It's not just the Help Channel. It's the entire mentality of some people. They have dedicated their time to being annoying. It's rampant among society in general these days.
I answer questions in help when I can, but I'm playing the game at the same time. I don't have the time to open up private conversations to explain certain things and, this being Eve, some things are just too complex for anything other than a private chat or webpage. I'll do it occasionally, but for the most part, if I can't answer your question in two or three sentences, then it's not getting answered by me. lol.
It also helps to not whine. You don't seem to be that type, and I'm not sure what happened in your case. Maybe at that time of day, it was just full of assholes. At least the guys that got you were cool! I've found that to be case a lot of times. You just gotta ask them.
But even the most helpful of helpers will turn ugly rather quickly when people ***** and moan. It cannot be helped. I see it all the time. Someone asks a question and 2 or 3 people answer it, and the conversation moves on. The same person asks the same question and it gets answered. Can you believe what happens next? They start bitching about no one helping them and demanding to speak to CCP! Then things get ugly, and the lurkers smell blood and the next few hours are pretty stupid until ISD shows up. |

I've seen you in there, and you're a helpful guy when you wanna be. I think you may have even answered a few questions of mine. lol.
I don't really oppose lively (constructive) debate in there, and even telling someone to htfu and verbally spanking them when they deserve it is ok. But, take the previous guy I quoted, he went in there and people acted like... people have been acting and he never went back. Who knows what he could have contributed if he had stayed?
Maybe I just don't understand something fundamental here, but the way the visible community has been acting, for some time now, is self-destructive and just... stupid. I can't think of a better word for it. Stupid. It's not everyone, and in my experience the majority of people are decent. But the forums, the public chats, and even the out of game sites.. people are just rude and stupidly hostile about damn near everything for damn near any reason. This is what people see. If someone has a problem, naturally he thinks "help channel" or "forums". So he goes and asks and gets **** on. Treated like he's the most ignorant of fools and should be stoned to death to save the gene pool. Why? Are they trying to drive people away? Are they to the point where they have lost interest in the game so much that acting like this is the game? Are they having a hard time in real life and making pixel people angry makes them feel better? I don't understand.

It can be really iffy with Help. I'm there regularly, and you get questions like "Hey is there a GM here? Someone just unfairly blew up my hauler in highsec. I want my stuff back!"
You give them the correct answer (No, you won't get your stuff,EVE is a competitive game, nowhere is safe etc) and instantly said questioner is screaming about you being a troll and setting off arguments. It's pretty often, the help people get in helpchat isn't the words they want to hear. The risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built and we want to keep that (infact, this is much more representative of the consensus opinion within CCP). |

Yes and no, the problem is that many players are fcking terrible regardless of how many years they've played or where they live in EVE. The result is that newbies get a ton of terrible, mistaken, purposely false or just moronic replies and information, resulting in yet more moronic clueless and useless (new) players. So yes it IS necessary to counter and "combat" stupid... facts newbies are being told.
Doesn't mean you have to get into silly "he said, she said" arguments over silly details but a rather large portion of actually helping newbies is correcting the dumb stuff they've been told by others. |

Okay here's a response for you:
As someone that tends to hang around in the help chat and do a lot of the helping myself, no, location has no effect on any channels, anywhere, player-made or system-made. This especially includes help channel. There is no indication to me as someone that's helping you where you are.
Now, if your problems are specifically having to do with needing someone to show up to help you (such as a mission) then you would have to tell the person where you are so they can find you.
I am an equal opportunity helper, assuming I can read the question in the first place before it scrolls :P The Drake is a Lie |

Lately the Help channel has really gone down hill.
Ego wars, trolling, swearing, telling folk that WoW is >>> way, refusing to answer questions on the grounds that players should already know X or they are to stupid to play Eve etc.
I even saw one player saying he wanted, to, well, someone's 7 year old grand daughter, although I think this many have been reported as I have have not seen the offending player since.
It is a help channel, there are no stupid questions, just a minority of folk abusing the channel, to the detriment of those who wish to use the channel properly. This is not a signature. |

Generally lame and idiotic comments from fools.
It's way to easy to label people trolls and the term "carebear" is absolutely stupid. |
