I'm currently at Frigate level III and Spaceship Command II. I was interesting in doing some trading and cargo hauling, more of a sideline than a main occupation. What's a decent intro hauler below the freighter level, something with more than my current 150m3 cargo space? Thanks.

Look at the industrial ships for your race...
Or read up on cargo expanders (under 'hull upgrades') ----- Lucid but lost... |

Which race of frigates? I would just pick the one with the biggest hold for my race, but then again, this is my first post.

It's hard to say without knowing which race's ships you're flying. Every race has an industrial ship that you can get with the racial Industrial (e.g. Caldari Industrial, Amarr Industrial) skill at level 1. You'd need Spaceship Command 3, but that shouldn't take more than a few hours.
Probably the best entry-level Industrial is the Bestower (Amarr) because it has lots of low slots, which you can use to either increase your speed (with nanofibers) or your cargo capacity (with expanded cargoholds). But every intro Industrial ship will do fine for learning the ropes.

Thanks for the replies. I'm Minmatar. I took a look at freighters (I think), they seemed like overkill in terms of price and skill for what I was looking for.

Yeah, freighters are the big ones. You want an industrial ship for now.

For Minmatar, a Hoarder is an excellent industrial ship. Buy one, slap three Expanded Cargohold Is on it and you've got around 9000 m3 of space (depending on your Industrial skill level). Add a cruiser-class (10MN) afterburner if you want to get a little more speed out of it. When you're really ready to do some serious hauling, get a Mammoth. Four Expanded Cargohold Is and I've got over 13000 m3 of space.
Don't even bother with a Wreathe, just go straight to the Hoarder.

Above poster is correct. And don't forget, you can get some better cargo expanders, the mammoth can have over 20k m¦ with the best expanders iirc.
Oh and then there are tech2 haulers.. but you would have to be kinda into hauling or have another reason to get them.

If you don't want to move up to an Indy just yet the Minmatar Probe (along with the Burst) get cargo capacity increases with every level of Minmatar Frigate. I spent many a long hour in my first Probe mining and hauling.
Good luck!

You can have a bestower in less than a day's worth of training (even without a single point in amarr frigate) and it'll give you 10k m3 with mostly junk expanders. It's the best low training indy by a long shot. However long term (IE if you are looking to go industrial 5) then don't go amarr, they lack real multi-tier indies. As far as long term or even short term, you should look at all the race's options for industrials regardless of your own race, because the pre-req of X frigate 3 is half a day to get potentially a lot more M3 or a faster ship.
