Short story: Found ghost site. Heard horror stories that if you fail a hack then Sansha spawns their own version of CONCORD and nukes you. Played it safe, came in with super cheap frigate just in case. Found five containers. Flew up to one, hacked it on the first try. Yay, me!
No loot pinata (yay x2), container opens, found some random garbage. Figured all was well, began approaching the next container. Made it all of fifteen seconds past my initial looting when sure enough a Sansha godship shows up an nukes my frigate. Ok, no real tears, was throwaway ship, loot was rubbish anyway.
What I have instead is a question: Was this a bug, or a feature? I was under the impression that the Sansha doomship only shows up if you fail a hacking attempt, and I hadn't failed. Like I said, got in on the first try (to be honest, this was more luck than skill). Yet I still got the "fail" response from Sansha.
So ... does winning the hack only delay the Sansha arrival instead of preventing them? Or was this just the kind of predictable bug we should expect from a new feature?
Just wondering before I throw away any more disposable frigates on this. Thanks! Nullsec in a Nutshell: http://nedroid.com/comics/2006-08-24-2155-arrrdino.gif |

use a tanked cruiser anything below is probably gonna be wreckedddd from what ive heard stack explosive resist and worked so far my stratios has never went below 90% armor in lowsec ghost sites the rats show up after a couple mins after the first warpin if you fail a hack and when they arrive they seem to shoot you for around 30 seconds then blow up the cans and warp off in another 30seconds so you need 0 offensive systems to do them be warned they will warp scram you so you have to sit through the bang but in a cruiser its easy to tank |

All Ghost Sites have a hidden timer which begins when you either enter the site, or decloak in the site if you enter cloaked...

I've had good luck surviving the 'pseudo-CONCORD' deathtraps in an armor-tanked Stratios. As long as you fit for survival over damage potential, losses can be kept to a minimum. ...Of course, this assumes that lowsec/nullsec PVP raep gangs don't kill you first. ~ Remissus |

Cool, so if I'm reading this right ...
1) Sansha shows up no matter what, it's only a matter of time.
2) Instead of disposable frigate I should bring something big & ugly and just punk them when they show up.
Can do, thanks! Nullsec in a Nutshell: http://nedroid.com/comics/2006-08-24-2155-arrrdino.gif |

Its racial ships so it wont always be sansha, depends on the site, angel sites spawn angels, as for your second point, the ships warp off once the timer expires, so no its not worth bringing something to shoot the ships you wont kill them before they leave |

I don't know about highsec ghost sites but as far as low and null go, they're pretty easy to tank with a T3 (I use a Tengu with an LSE2, two T2 invulns, a T2 explosive deflection field, and a suitcase). The explosions are pretty easy to shrug off, the tank is really for the rats that spawn. My technique has pretty much been to let them scram/web/shoot me, and tank them until they warp out. There's really no need to kill them.
It's also very advisable to train the T2 hacking module, and yes fit a cargo scanner so you know which cans to go for first. Depending on the timer you may be able to hack one to three cans successfully before the site explodes. Latest video - Pandemic Legion titan and supers killed |

I tried a site like this an in untanked no-resist BC and got out in 12 percent armor (and this was after a monty haul session of several DED sites and a escalation with a hold of phat loot - very nerve wracking).
Use a BC with some resists, particularly to explosive damage because the containers explode, or get a frigate with high resists for both explosive damage AND the main damage dealt by the faction that owns the ghost site. Also, based on reports from other players, using the speed of a frigate can help except when dealing with Guristas who will use missiles.
Finally, use a cargo scanner on the cans before you hack, so you know which one to hit first and fast. |

Just don't be a moron like I was and try and do a Wormhole Ghost Site in a Buzzard
What's worse was I had the container ready to open, got distracted for half a second and clicked the wrong damn virus hahaha it was a glorious ball of fire... Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |
