I haven't had this happen to me yet, but a few of my friends have. They are doing missions that require them to fly in .4 space for a jump or so, even .5 and they get gatecamped. Sad thing is, they are 5 day old noobs and the person killing them sits 175k off and launches cruise missiles or whatever at them to blow them up.
Seriously, how lame. Get a freaking life and quit being a coward. Go take on some people that have been in the game as long as you if you aren't too scared. It's SOOOOOOOOOOO hard to knock out a frigate/destroyer in your dreadnought/battleship especially when you're lame enough to not even close with the person.
Of course you'll say "well stay away from low-sec space!" That's retarded because when lvl 1 storyline agents send you to low sec space you don't have that much of a choice.
You're also too retarded to ask for a ransom. No skill. That's what you have. No skill. *cough* God forbid *cough*
*cough* Glok *cough*
If you guys had any stones you'd go try and blow people up that had a chance against ya.

Edited by: Bosie on 11/03/2006 04:58:10 Refuse the mission, or don't fly what you can't afford to loose.
You can also blame 'folks who whine like you' for the sniping as in the old days there were no sentry guns in low sec so you would have had the chance to pay or die.

Uh, there IS no chance to pay. You fools are all so unskilled that you just launch missiles from half a universe away without one word. I fly a frigate so I can replace anything I lose, no big deal. . .but why would the game send you to low-sec space on missions designed for noob players 2 days in and then allow other lame players to take advantage of it?
Taunt more, unskilled fool?

Edited by: Skidd Chung on 11/03/2006 05:30:47 Lord Axius, please stop acting like a child. Calm down.
The only reason people stay so far from a gate to shoot your friends is because thats the only way to shoot people in low sec near the gates. They can't be near you because of the sentry guns.
Sorry to hear your friends had this happened to them. Maybe next time they would be more careful when they're flying MORE expensive ships. Better for them to learn this now than later you know.
Missions can be rejected once without penalty (I believe it resets every 4 hours). If you really want to enter low sec, then do the normal routine of checking the map for ships destroyed, pilots in space, etc. Test it out with a shuttle first to see if there are any dangers waiting for you, then if it's clear, get your ship and jump in. Make safespots and keep an eye on local chat for pirates.
Those players are the environment of low sec. They're like the essence of it. Without them low sec loses it's meaning. Yes it's cowardly to kill noobs and lame but I don't think they really care. The sooner you realised it's not all about you, the sooner you get a grip on EVE. It's nothing personal in low sec. Pirates do their thing, just like miners do theirs.
Wise up and stay sharp. It's risky out there thus the rewards are better. No risk less rewards, ya dig?
And personally, I believe it's a blessing in disguise for your friends to experience being helpless and force PVP in low sec this early in the game. Some players are so confident of flying their newly aqquired battleships into low sec gets a nasty surprised when they realised how fast it can be melted and smelted by pirates. If I was a newbie manager, I would sent them all into low sec and slug it out when the clone is still cheap. IMO anyway.

Actually, snipers usually set themselves up in the few low-sec highway systems (Ginger Magician comes to mind) and at 0.5-0.4 gates. Belt pirates are more likely in your regular low-sec systems behind the chokepoints.

Alexis, Rancer comes to my mind mostly. Snipers camp highway systems because of the high traffic between empire systems. They are what makes it risky for the short route. Without them, low sec in empire highways are as good as high sec.

I wasn't disagreeing, just saying that they're rare in comparison with actual belt pirates. Otherwise, let me know where this saturation of gate snipers are, as I've only seen one, and I cruise through Domain/Everyshore low-security areas all the time.

Acting like a child? Who's the child? The person obviously taking advantage of game mechanics to grief people (god forbid doesn't even pick up the canisters at gates because he wont get close to them so whats the point if you dont even get loot?) or someone who challenges them to actually play?
If I go and kill someone in my frigate that is in a frigate or higher I don't feel bad, and I wouldn't feel bad if someone did that to me. However, personally I'd be ashamed if I was caught sniping noobs.
My main gripe is not at the idiots that practice these lame tactics, but the game that sends people on lvl 1 storyline missions to these areas? How many times can you skip a mission? Those missions are vital to getting standing with a group and then advancing yourself in Eve.
Obviously, I never venture into low-sec space unless I'm forced to, and I'm careful when I do go there. However, what's the point in the police and sentry guns if they don't work? What's the point in storyline missions if you can't finish them because of pirate constraints. Legitimate questions.
I respect that people have put a lot of time into the game to get these good ships and skills and whatnot. . .but lighten up on the newer folks. We don't think the game is "all about us" but we'd like to at least jump into the .4 sector next to the 1.0 to finish the storyline mission and at least get asked for ransom money.
I guess I'll stay in low-sec space and toil away on the missions I can do and mining and then pay off a mercenary group. Sounds like fair play to me.

Edited by: Alexis DeTocqueville on 11/03/2006 05:55:46 You could consider 0.5+ complex running or NPC pirate hunting instead of mission running.
Quote: When you have a hardened cruiser, or a BC, warping away from a snipe camp is generally easier because of the hp cushion. However, it can be deadly to warp to a station or to try to approach a gate.
Because I'm personally curious...MicroWarpDrive? Use it? Or is it not worth the signature inflation?

This is how you stay alive:
1)Select a fast ship. Perhaps just enough firepower/cargo to finish your mission. Slasher/Executioner/Atron are great for this. This ship will align for warp quickly much quicker than a destroyer or heavier frigate.
Take your time deciding a location. There is no need to rush. You have half a minute to decide a destination.
2)Arriving safely: - At a station: look at what planet the station is at. Warp to the planet. Don't linger if an enemy saw you warp there. Warp to a different planet and then to your target planet if you want to throw them off. Warp in at various ranges.
Then look for the square of your station on the screen. Zoom out on your ship until it and the square overlap. Open the scanner and do a nice 15 degree scan. If there are no ships, head to your station and remember to bookmark near the middle of it if you need to return. Keep an eye on anyone that shows up in the guests list and try to guess where their allegiance is.
- For arriving at another gate: warp to the planet or other body nearest the gate. Repeat the scan technique previously mentioned to look for hostiles. If there are none, carry on. If there are no objects near the gate, and there is not more than 2-3 negative people in the system, warp to the gate at 100km, and drop a bookmark right before you come out of warp. Immediately select warp to the bookmark. You should be able to watch from this point if there are hostiles lingering at the gate.
3) Pressing your luck: If there are hostiles at the gate and highsec freedom on the other side, and you don't have a BM, it is possible to create a crude BM on the fly. Study the moons or other objects around a gate. If there are two that are close to 180 degrees apart on either side of the gate and you are in a shuttle or fast aligning ship, warp in at 15km and drop a bm there. Then warp to the opposite moon with which you should already be aligned. Then return to the original bm and you will be nearly on top of the gate.
When you have a hardened cruiser, or a BC, warping away from a snipe camp is generally easier because of the hp cushion. However, it can be deadly to warp to a station or to try to approach a gate. Slow frigates, destroyers, and low hp cruisers pop very very easilly to snipers.

How are you going to protect them from a 175km-distance battleship? The only thing you can do before you yourself are in a battleship is use armor repairers on the freighter, and that assumes the battleship doesn't do the math and turn your ass into meat before returning to destroying the freighter.

When doing missions for your agent, some of them send you to low sec. Whether you're a newbie or not. And as far as I know, they ALWAYS warn you of it. They even give you a choice to whether accept it or not. It's never an ultimatum.
Skipping a mission doesn't end your career in EVE, but accepting it and losing all your money travelling foolishly and not being careful can ruin your career in EVE. Why do the game send this newbies with no guns to low sec? Because it can and it wants to show you low sec is different, it's dangerous with warning signs. How do you as a player, intelligent as you may be perceived this threat? Please don't be a 'Yes, man', and do everything a game tells you to do, it gave you a choice. And your decision will affect your well being.
If someone told you it's dangerous to cross the road, you don't just cross it blindly and get wtfpwned, do you? (quoting a forum member)
Sentry guns deter piracy but do NOT prevent them. Police ships destroy enemy ships only when the crime is already commited. Mainly they are there to prevent exploiting griefers from having a field day without repurcussion.
Storyline missions that can't be completed due to pirate constraints? Really? WOW! Great gaming then. To think a bunch of players can actually stop the game from functioning. To think a game that gives players the powers to change a game. To think a game actually makes you figure your way about a situation you can't control and put you in a tight spot with a mission timer counting down.
To think it's not like any other cookie cutter game out there that gives you a mission and specific instructions to follow a yellow brick road to a red ribboned shoe of +1 pwnage that wtfpwns all enemy within it's glare.Don't you just wonder what it all boils down to? Heh.

Yeah, I've studied up on all the ways to stay safe in low sec, just it doesn't seem like much of a defense. Seems like staying alert and then waiting for the bad guys to go to sleep is the best idea.
I'm totally stoked for PVP. Can't wait. I'd just like to be able to do it 1-1 up close where even tho my skills might be lower because I'm newer, I still have a chance. Sniping gates where you know a lot of noobs are passing through seems like griefing to me. Especially when they don't even bother to pick the loot up.

Treat low sec like going into the ghetto and you're the whitest person on earth. Expect to get roughed up. You're looking at EVE like its a traditional game which its not. People are encouraged to be pirates, scoundrels, swindlers, industrialists etc. Most muggers are cowards or desperate or both IRL. So you might as well get used to it. But there are way more generous and friendly people out there willing to help. Just don't wear your noobness on your shoulder and you'll get help. "Big guns and heavy armor what else is there?"

Obviously I wouldn't. I've been saying that it would be nice for someone to ask for ransom money instead of just blowing folks up. So I wouldn't be talking trash. I've only come back at people obviously trying to be forum jerks in this thread. My initial protest was towards noob snipers. . .so unless anyone here is admitting to it, I wasn't calling them out.

Hey lord Axius, your friend should be grateful he lost a frigate. Mine is much worser, I got ganked by two sentry tanking battleships and lost my cruiser in my noob day. Also to add more worse situation they were Russians. Hey I got ****ed off too on that faithfull day. So I had to to use babelfish to smack them in Russian.
Since then I learn how to survive in low sec, and reject any mission that send me to low sec. You CAN reject missions every 4 hours without getting penalty (someone already posted that before, did you read it?) You can even reject storyline agent without penalty also. But don't reject after you accept it, you'll get penalty for that. Just use "I need more detail..." option to see where are you going. And oh check it with the map. (I believe the other already posted that).
Also, please refrain your anger. You'll getting more flames by acting like that. Because your problem was the game mechanic. IT'S NOT ONLY YOU/YOUR FRIEND WHO EXPERIENCES UNFAIR PvP, HECK EVERYONE DOES. Being ganked, so called dishonorable 1 vs 1 because using mwd, dampener, jammer and such, etc.
Also there will be *clickeh* for having your thread degenerated into flamefest. ---------

As said earlier the only (well 95% of) gate camps are either at a high sec->low sec gate or a low sec->0.0 gate. Once youre passed those youre generally free to roam about untroubled.
Solution: pick an agent that doesnt have either of those types of gate routes in the same constellation (agents only send you to systems in the same constellation as them). The exception to this rule is storyline missions (and possibly courier but i use kill missions exclusivly).

This is my second day playing and first on the forums. It goes without saying trolls come in all shapes and sizes, but finding them here on EVE is truly a disappointing find.
Although there's clearly no way for me to be an expert only after two days... even as a total newbie I've discovered basic survival methods that involve: 1) Planning ahead 2) Avoiding places I know I will be killed 3) Accepting loss
No more attention for you!
