Your friends sat at the gate watching cruise missiles fly 175km towards them? That takes about 40 seconds. A frigate can warp off in about 3.

Hi, there are alts in this game.
Nobody has time to do a background check before they kill you, and even if they had time they'd still kill you for their killmail collection.
Get used to it.

I think that the OP fails to realize that the people who roasted his ass were newbies once as well. They had to fight and earn their way to being able to sit 150+ km from a gate and kill you.
Is it fair? Hell no. But that's how the world works. Quit being a crybaby and learn from your mistakes instead of making an ass of yourself in public about it.
I've lost countless ships from being a newb and not knowing any better. Now, someone has to be pretty quick to lock me down and kill me if I don't want to fight. It's called experience and I'm not referring to the kind you learn when you're offline either.
You can do one of two things now. 1) Learn how to not get blowed up. 2) Get blowed up until you quit EvE.

Eve is unforgiving of mistakes, and hugely rewarding to those who take well calculated risks.
That is what a lot of people relish about it.
There are "nasty" people in Eve, just like in life.
Lick your wounds, get more in-game experience, gain more resources, get friends, and keep a list of people that one day you will hunt down? It's an option.......

First of all if you were in a frigate not being webbed or scrambled and were attacked by one bs 150km away how did you die? How were you not able to warp away? It takes a frig what, like one second to get into warp. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

Out of interest, have you ever actually seen a gatecamp?
Not everyone runs a liquid-cooled super computer, when you come out of warp at a camped gate you either lag because of all the cans the sniper has caused to spawn, or you lag because of the tanking pirates and their drones. By the time the r-click menu on your safespot BM appears, your ship is toast and they're already locking your pod.
The guy shouldn't be moaning so much, but seriously, stop throwing s**t at him and just ignore.

^^The sad truth
Now, to the original poster, i understand your anger but these situations willl always be a part of Eve... and part of the learning process. Everyone's been there and gatecampers sometimes go back to thier sys just to find theyre themselves on the wrong end of a blaster after a jump.
Don't take it personnal, you and your friends will eventually get to spot trouble (map "show destroyed ships" is your friend) and/or enjoy the rush of being sent to Egghelende not knowing if youll really make it there

Smart enough to see the gaping holes in your posts and cruel enough to continue to give you enough rope. Every time you post like this you're losing more and more face and showing people what you're really like. I hope you don't think you're making any friends with your attitude around here.

You don't seriously think you're one of those "big boys", do you?

His "friend" was too busy composing the thread complaining about it. That must have taken at least 40 seconds.

Some how the sarcasm and insults really rubbed me the wrong way. I was going to make an polite and objective post, but the bloodlust today is really screwing my perception of things. So screw it. I just added you to the buddylist with a nice little reminder in the notes section of why I did so.
Let this be the begining of hard lesson: Your behavior out of game will reflect and affect you in game.

My friend was in a destroyer and had warped into the gate and was tooling up to it at less than 400 m/s or something like that. He didn't really have time to see what hit him, but I guessed it was something like cruise missiles since the guy was 175km off. Are we crying about it? No. It's a crappy 1 million dollar ship. Big deal. Just saying that it's lame to be sent on a storyline mission and get gakked by someone that freaking huge. The guy that did it is a loser. . .he can go on his merry way and enjoy popping noobs in Eve. Congratulations to him.
I liked how everyone immediately started posting noob haterage in the thread. From like the first post out. It's like anytime someone has a gripe or wants to vent they get a rush of forum trolls with "STFU noob! Whine more? Learn to play! Blah blah blah." I'm sure if I got killed by someone exploiting the golden magicial instakill bullet you'd tell me to quit being a crybaby and learn to use my Matrix moves and dodge it.
So, ok. . .I realize the error of my ways and I'll quit on the thread. Obviously everyone here are bloodthirsty noob haters who can't just feel a guy's pain and empathize. *wink*
And ****ala. . .have fun keeping a look out for a character name that never left Jita.

omg... hmm if you are new to eve. 1) read the handbook 2) read the several guides you can find all over the web 3) read the forums 4) start playing
helps a lot..really.
P.S.: If the first who destroyed your mates frig would be not a gatecamper or any pvper in low-sec... then it will be a npc rat in either belt or mission/deadspace.
So no need to complain about loosing a ship.
Start getting money the way all of us had done when we was new to eve... do the tutorial and do some mining. In the meanwhile train on your learning skills or skills you prefer.
just my 2 cent.
oh btw. dont join any player corp in the first months you playing in here and dont create a new one... you will learn the very hard way then when you get war decd... then there are no "high secs" anymore...

Axius. This is EVE. not WoW we are speaking about.
A new player as you, have nothing to do in the Low Sec really. And the reasons are many:
1.) you dont know the game mechanics yet 2.) you dont have the correct skills yet to survive 3.) you definitely dont have the ship or the cash to survive there, or to handle the aftermath, after a Pirate attack
those are 3 of the main problems.
My advice is: stay far far far away from Low Sec! This is as I said not WoW!
We like it the way it is! And we dont want to see it change! More then that, this is one of the oldest MMOs out there, and guess what, while other older MMOs are loosing members, EVE is growing!! For 3 years this game have been up, and its growing!! Ofcource, lots of them who joins now, will find that this is not the game for them. Thats sad, but thats life. Faster you see this, better it is for you and the community, who are indeed -VERY- helpful compared to the other MMO communities! IF YOU GIVE EM A REASON TO BE HELPFUL!!
This is what I would do if I where you!
1.) LEARN AND STUDY THE GAME AND ITS MECHANICS!! READ (NOT WRITE!!) THE FORUMS!!! 2.) Get into a good Corp!!!!!!!!!! 3.) start out mining slowly, or easier RATin in the astroid belts, and get skill books and train your skills! 4.) Get friends!!!! (Yes! That means NOT ****ING PEOPLE OFF! Because you need friends!!)
And PLEASE!!! Be patient!! This game is all about patience!

Click here for infos about low-sec/ganking/...
Anyway, I really wonder that there was no chance to warp away since the gate-camper was 175km away and using missiles as you said. Not only the missiles take time to get to the target, but also the targeting itself needs time even with sensor boosters. That alone should have been enough warning..

Thats bogus imho. I'm a newb, i've been in lowsec a lot, granted - i've been killed on my first venture into lowsec but only because the only way i knew to go to warp was to open the map *g*. Apart from that i've been targeted once without being shot at and once shot at which did hurt but didnt kill me (today actually). This in about, i dont know, lets say 200 lowsec systems that i visited and from those maybe 30 that i actually hunted in - rats and players (playerhunting was without success though). If u go to lowsec you have to be prepared to be blown up... If you wouldnt be able to get over it, dont go there - but, honestly, *probably* you will not be bothered. My experience, from 12 days of Eve.

The difference is, you're probably not a stupid, arrogant noob who alienates everyone any time you say something.

I'm sorry, but I'm a newb myself, and you really have to stop whining. The game's been in existence for 3 years and every person remotely capable of sniping you has been in the same basic situation at least once. Personally, I've never been hit by a sniper, but that may be because each time I see a guy more than 100km out from a gate, he's busy fighting pirates that are spawning on him. Perhaps I'm just lucky that that's the case. :)
Be attentive, be smart, plan your moves carefully, study the capabalities and tactics of your enemies, move decisively, move quickly, have a back-up plan, form your own techniques and counter-measures, build yourself up, defend yourself. CCP is not going to change the game dynamics because you've got a problem with someone's tactics: work with them and fight back. If you fall, rise again, learn from it, try something different. It's an excercise in making yourself better at the game, not making the game better at handling you. The latter is very, very flawed thinking.
Eve is a lot bigger than you, and always will be. Respect it, fellow noob. :)

I love how some of the most useful and insightful advice in this thread is coming from new players who don't even have their forum pics up yet. It gives me confidence in some of our newest players that they actual understand how the game works so quickly. I wish there were more like them.
