Let me think...there was a war going on between B.O.B. and the Goons. There was some crazy ** called Wormhole space and a bunch of new places on the map. Nobody had been there yet but the rumors of loot were intriguing. We were all going to be walking in stations soon. That sounded exciting but not nearly as cool as the new tractor beams we just got. I was so clever, I took a destroyer and put 8 of them on as a dedicated looter and went collecting goodies after a mission. I bet none of you caught on to that since then ;) Factions went to war and we celebrated warping to zero with dancing and champagne. Now here I am in January 2014 and holy ** WTF game is this?! It's so shiny! I made an avatar for my guy. He looks as much of a scumbag as he should. I see I'm walking around in the station, but only in a closet with a window and some TV's. That's exciting. I checked my wallet with anticipation. 55M ISK!! Yeah baby I'm rich! I was pumped! Then I remembered. That's not much. I'm broke. A visit to my friendly insurance agent in station confirmed this when all I have would just pay to cover my BS. I guess I have some work to do. I have an outdated clone in X-R3 something or other (where the hell is that?) I feel like a fish out of water. I had to take 2 turrets off my Hyperion just to undock. The GUI has so much new stuff. Where's my learning skills? 700+ items in my main station and I can't remember what half of them are good for. Where's the white gas cloud that defined the Essence Region? I don't care, the new space is beautiful. Stunning even. So what have I missed? What's happening now? Dust? Sounds good I guess. Oh and I need to make a buck, do I start running L1 missions again and hope I don't lose my ass? What's the skinny 6 years later kids? I'm glad to be back!

I'd jump clone back to high sec for a few days and try to get your feet back under you as far as actually moving ships around. Buy a frigate or cruiser and go run a couple of level 1/level 2 missions - not for the money, but just so you remember how to move. Then try to connect up with people in the game. If you're in null sec you're obviously in the intel channels already, so make sure to hit the locals up. A good conversation in local will likely bring you mostly back up to speed. If along the way the phoenix flames should have scorched your belongings I recomend against giving the remaining to some one in Jita local. Beyond that all the t1 and faction ships are different new ships are in and the phoenix sucks while the naglafar is about to become the primary fleet ship. This would be an impossible task for such a small group of players but they have consolidated many many supercapitals into one group and effectively control half of 0.0 with about 300 active pilots. So essentially nothing has changed

I've kept abreast of some of the happenings with this game over the years but with no hands on experience happening it loses some context. I can't speak for everybody that posts their I"m back after X years posts, but I don't expect a run down of every Dev blog for each expansion I've missed. What stands out or important to people varies, so I gained some extra insight into some things from this thread and had some people hit me up in game to talk already, which has been very cool. I have to say if there wasn't at least one person responding to this post yelling from the rafters how it's a waste of space, I'd wonder what happened to the community. That said I expected someone to suggest I leave the game again for another 5 years for posting how I'm back in GD. :P This is a much warmer reception lol
