We're making some improvements to the tracking camera UI and behaviour in Rubicon 1.1. The work-in-progress on these changes is currently on SiSi but some changes are planned and being worked on.
If you have any feedback on the tracking camera UI and behaviour then please do let us know in this thread.
Please note, this is solely about the tracking camera. We would appreciate it if you restrict comments to that topic, thanks.
Our goals for 1.1 are to consolidate the controls for the existing functionality and make the various different states that the tracking camera can be in much clearer.
The new consolidated controls are now found in a small radial accessed through the 'Camera Controls' button on the HUD, which replaces the 'Reset Camera' button. The reset camera functionality can still be accessed via this radial. Icons are placeholders.
We'll update this thread as we push out changes closer to the final design for 1.1.

Some good feedback here. We're taking a look at the speed and FPS issue.
We'll also be looking to indicate the tracking camera mode (center or custom) with an icon change on the radial button.
Hope to have those changes on sisi shortly.

Rina Kondur wrote:Please bring back the tracking option to the directional scanning window. This was a great addition and will be sorely missed if it's actually removed. I generally hate the tracking camera, but it's great for things like scanning so you know exactly which way your scanner is pointing. In case people aren't sure what I'm talking about, this is the scanner window currently on SiSi - http://puu.sh/6fkYU.jpg (notice they've removed the option for the tracking camera). You now have 2 available options for the tracking camera, center and custom location. So you can still use it for d-scan, just toggle the center location on. Oh please yes! or at least lose the linearity of the slider. there is a big gap between 180 degree and 360 degree and 5,10 and 15 degrees are all cramped in the very left corner of the slider. i don't know about you other guys but i never used the dscan in the 263.5 degree mode. the labeled presets make sense so maybe just space them equally and let the slider 'snap' to the next position on drag? Please lets keep this on topic There are plenty of suggestion threads, and I am following them CCP karkur | User Interface Programmer | Team Pirate Unicorns |-á@CCP karkur |

We've made some further improvements to the tracking camera behaviour and speed now in the build on SiSi. In particular, the FPS link to speed has been broken. As a result the tracking camera is now faster than the old standard speed regardless of graphic settings or the use of GPU cycles.
See what you think and let us know.

Thanks for the feedback so far. We're taking a look at the FPS issue and have identified at least one more component of the motion where this is in play.

Quote:Another thing which bothers me is the automatic zooming to your ship while tracking camera is switched on. I think this was disabled on the previous Sisi build. Since I'm playing zoomed out with tactical overlay I was very happy about the change.
The current logic causing this has been in for a while and we haven't changed it for 1.1.
The tracking camera stops tracking when you have zoomed out a certain distance, when you pick a new target to track, the camera zooms in so you can see your ship along with the target.
Im assuming that the original reasoning behind this logic was that it can be confusing to be tracking moving targets when you are very zoomed out, since if the target is close to the ship, the camera would spin a lot. And if we would keep the tracking disabled because you are so zoomed out, it might be confusing as well.
After thinking about this and seeing your feedback this behavior could be more confusing than actually just skipping disabling the tracking camera at all, no matter how far you zoom, and skip the zooming in as well. |
