3 years on and people are still complaining about the ship textures and models.
I'm not saying CCP should remake half the gfx in the game just look at the most complained about ships and make adjustments, after all the ship we fly are what we have to look at all the time we play.
pirate factions seem to have better looking ships than the player races in many cases. 2t ships are just re textured versions of the old models with stupid bits stuck on.
from what I've read the new teir 3 BSs will be re textured teir 2s, thats just cheap.
CCP has over 100k subs paying monthly and still try to palm us off with garbage ship models when they can take time to make cool looking stuff the players never get to interact with besides blowing it up like deadspace structures.
Get some outside help in if you need it to fix the messed up ship models, turret hard point that float 12 feet from the ship and align the messed up textures that cover half the ships in the game.
Lets get some ships that look like they belong in space, if a ships a drone carrier lets have some emphasis on large deep drone bays.
if its a gun a boat lets look at how you would setup a ship in order that weapons have maximum chance to be brought to bare not stuck on in seemingly random like the raven or apoc (i really like what they did with the geddon the turrets look like they belong)
if the ships a missile ship we need to think about were the missiles are coming from, on all 3 caldari missile ship there are no decernable lancher tubes the missiles pop out from random parts of the hull.
the suspension on disbelief is very important in games, when a person see something happening that does not make sense it distracts from the game and spoils the escapism.

If they can produce gfx like this with fixed function five year old hardware, I can't wait to see what the artists and programmers will do with PS 3.0 and the current generation of cards.

Agreed. I mean, come on, there are ships with HOLES in their textures. And the apoc looks like crap.

I dont know its been my end or eve's fault. But on 3 comps I use, my laptop, computer at work, and computer at home. Everytime I try to view a minmatar station its just completely screwed.

they have got it right quite a few times with currant build the BC's so far have all looked nice and space worthy.
some of the cruisers have always been nice im a fan of the vexor myself i think it looks great though the thorax has a few ugly spots, the omen, arby and blackbird look cool to.
as for frigates the merlin and inquisitor look nice i kinda like the direction they took with the tristan too.

As for the rest, indeed, the old ships need an overhaul. Especially the apoc :)
edit: be glad you never had to look at a thorax or mega ith a 512x512 texture....

There's quite a graphical shift when I play X3 for a bit, then log onto eve...Alot of the textures in this game are awful, especially some of the space backdrops. :/ Everything else looks great though. -----

agreed, if you look at the new ship designs (prophecy, brutix etc) they look 1000% better, in terms of design and modelling. Has the base polycount per ship been increase? Whatever it may be, the new ones are nice, but the old ones are in desperate need of attention, and re-using old designs isnt a good thing in my opinion, especially ones like the manticore which litterally is just the kestrel with a couple of cubes stuck on.

There are some strange details on some ships, eg. the wing ends of the punisher are floating mid air below the wings, at least in my EVE here. But as for the client not using any DX9 Shaders or shaders at all, I think the game and its effects look awesome. Before the release of X3:Reunion, EVE was the best looking space game. Period. And from what I could see in the movies of the dev-presentation, a new EVE engine using Shaders and HDR effects would be a blast for the whole sci-fi genre.
But yes, you are right, some ships have a bit strange mounting points or a bit grumpy textures. Another idea would perhaps be to distinguish bloodlines by ships. My character is Khanid, but all Khanid ships are T2, so if I want to fly them I need to skill several skills to 5. Would be nice to have some Khanid or Achura or Brutor or Jin-Mei or whatever ships to fly right from start. Maybe just the standard ships with different textures and some glued-on parts for each bloodline, while using new shipmodels on T2 ships, and thus creating a greater base of flyable T1 and T2 ships.

Give them a break, they have introduced many many new ships in the past 6 months. However, I do think that other things needs attention... Like the overview is stuck on right side, so left handers(Like I) feel awkward about it. I think the Interface should be far more configurable. But then again, computer industry have never had left handers in mind. _______________________________________

you would be surprised how much this effects many peoples gameplay, there are meny ppl who would fly Domis and tempest but dont cus they think they look like crap.

Some of the models could use a rework. Instead of having CCP do it, why not make a contest out of it and see what the community can come up with?? I'm just talking models here, not ship stat's or attributes. What do you think?

in the ships and mods forums a fair few people have presented concept art and even a few 3d pics though they have never meet a dev response, good idea though i wish CCP would take it up.
a competition to design a new BC and destroyer for each race would be cool would also add some new ships to these catgorys so that cant be bad, i just wish they guy who made the new BC models was alowed to go back and rework some of the old ones.

I mean omg the minmatar ships in general, what a disaster. these must be the ugliest ships out.
technicaly the should be damn near impossible to shoot, they so full of holes and gaps that the chances of a shot landing should be tiny.
Ok i know we came from slaves, but surely we have passed the stage of needing to put bubblegum between a few sticks and call it a breacher.
All i want is a ship that is a bit easier on the eyes.

they should do something about the station textures for sure ,the ships dont bother me to much as i dont have my camera zoomed right in so they dont look so bad, but some stations just look complete crap because of the texture quality on them.

Hm, why propose changes that noone cares about anyway? I think graphics have absolutely no role in eve, caus its all about killmails. I, for one would love to be able to remove all the stupid textures and graphics, and have decent fps and less lag. CCP should remove it and make the graphics consist of overview, ship stats and chat window, nothing else is really needed. Well I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To my eyes, the Dominix looks awesome. Best Gallente design by far. The Tempest looks aggressive and majestic.
Battleships should look mean, ugly, scarred.. Not like a luxury yacht or flying neon sign. (i.e. Megathron)

the hole in the ferox model is the worst. just small enough to be really hard to know it's there. but once you see it... oh, god. you can never stop seeing it.
ruined my love of the ferox, that little failure to weld 2 vertices together.
I'd offer to work for ccp for free to fix the models, if only I were'nt a 3ds Max artist, but a maya expert...

Who cares if X3 looks prettier its a c*ap game, EVE has no need to even bother attempting to compete with the GFX on X3 that i'll add wont even run properly on my PC which pwns the minimum spec, i even run it at the lowest settings and its fubared, wish i had played a demo of X3 before i bought it, would have saved myself some money, back to the point in hand, the EVE gameplay is lightyears ahead of anything X3 can manage so who cares if the GFX are a little outdated EVE is still going from strength to strength on a weekly basis.
With this game its not the pretty lights that make the game what it is its the gameplay and the fun you can have, trying to compare it to some solo offline space sim that plays badly and has no point is useless because the GFX will always be better, personally i think EVE looks fine and it plays well and thats all that counts, i would rather have a game that looked bad and played great to a game with loads of eye-candy that was just awful to play.

honestly we'll never know where over 1.6 mill a month goes to, customer support? nah the support level hasnt changed in years, hardware? come on how much could hardware possibly cost, "free patches"? If all these patches come at the expense of quailty maybe they ought slow down, yada yada yada, maybe they have alot of investors to pay back, who knows, Theres just alot of loose ends that a company making so much really shouldn't have.

hell dident know it was around that much, im sure thats the budget for many games total.
ccp could have the best game ever made on there hands they just fail when it comes to finishing touches.
i dident get much into the UI when i first posted but theres still alot of things that need to be done, like a drone control interface i would also like to see the chat boxes that seem to take up most my screen improved.
