I have a Megathron which I use for mining in Empire... Anyway thats not the issue.
The issue is that i never lose it, so I was wondering as its getting close to re-insuring the thing, will I get a no claims bonus and cheaper insurance for the next few months as it did not blow up last time?

No.
Insurance is a game mechanic put in as a concession to players to stop losses being catastrophic.
It's not intended to mimic RL insurance.

The insurance system is already a complete crutch for players artificially subsidizing their losses. If it were a real corporation it would be bankrupt long, long ago.
Rather than concessions, what we need are insurance cost increases for people who lose ships frequently and an end to free 40% payout insurance. (I crash my car, having driven without insurance, and get a $8,000 check from my friendly agent at gieco? wtf)
Let the insurance system be a global isk sink rather than a source, and let people make an actual decision when it comes time to insure their ships weighing the costs and benefits of doing so given the premiums they have to pay.

Speaking of which, this would be a great time to remove the 40% auto-insure.
IMO, its gotton somewhat silly. With the recent inflation, it would do good to decrease the amount of free ISK entering the game. This will also discourage players from only flying the largest ships.

u dont say where u r mining but if u r using a BS to mine in high sec why are u even bothering to insure it as its almost impossible to lose it.
i might be alone here but i dont get the obsession people have with insuring every ship. i accept it is useful for people while they are getting started but once u have been in the game for a little while i dont understand why its seen as essential.
before u all start flaming.
the insurance setup in game is a 50% premium which runs out every 12 weeks.
an insured tier2 BS pays out 100 mill but to get that u have spent 30.
an uninsured tier2 BS pays out 40 mill.
so in effect u are only gaining 30 mill for having insured the ship. if u have to insure a BS for a second period then u would in effect have been as well not bothering as the second insurance payment cancels out the gain from the payout.
when u apply the figures to cruisers the "gain" from having the ship insured to not insure is 1-2mill.
maybe its just me but when its so easy to make money in the game now then i just dont see the point in paying a 50% premium. -

Edited by: Agent Stone on 20/03/2006 23:50:24 I see your point mrg29, as I don't use it in combat and only in empire mining, its not worth insuring as long as I am careful. Now I am more experianced, I guess 40mil is plenty anyway, even if I lose a BS without insurance I would have enough to get another one. Never knew that.
Thanks.

insurance (with the exception of basic) is a waste of time. you pay more for the better platinum cover but it doesn't provide any additional net benefits vs basic.
all platinum insurance does is take money away from your wallet so you dont spend it on something else.

Insurance is bs. The coolest ships cant be insured anyways.. And the default insurance is kinda stupid aswell.

Sn-iggeredly is in favor of making ship losses hurt worse. Nobody should be suprised by this.

I speak for myself, not for my corp. If you want to know who would be hurt most by such a change, its the people trying to pvp all the time, ie pirates among others. I favor it because it makes the game a bit more realistic, and makes kills count for more. As it is, alliances cant even hurt each other financially... only attack until the other side doesnt care to defend anymore.
I also favor removing local chat and greatly improving scan probes... both pro-pvp and as likely to kill pirates as anyone else.
Also next time try responding to the ideas contained in the post.

If you review my post history you'll see I can and always do, but in your case I'm willing to make an exception.

Insurance is pointless most of the time. Most people learn it after their first insurances run out after 3 months, and they notice they blew 30 mil insuring that BS and got ZIP out of it. Why bet money on ship loss?
I only insure when I'm flying a battlecruiser or bigger *AND* I know I'm about to fly to almost certain doom (big fleet battle or night of pvp 'until I get podded'), in which case it usually pays to insure - you _know_ you gonna get the payout that night or very soon anyway. However, insuring mining ships or ships in empire that you dont plan to put into extreme risk is quite pointless waste of ISK. The 40% autoinsurance is plenty of cover for them in case of unforeseen accidents.
Real insurance system might be neat, with premiums going down longer you keep your insured ship in one piece (and up for the notorious ship wreckers), and based on the space you usually flying in & any wars you participating in. However, coding such a thing would be non-trivial, and for most pvpers it would most likely be a worse deal than the current 'free 40% insurance'. So if one was made based on real life insurance system, it would be good only for the carebears of empire who never lose their ships anyway.
