So yesterday I was pottering about in low sec near a station in a Rupture. Earlier I had made a hole in my hull by going to see if a DED complex was too hard for my Rupture (yes it was!) and I had complacently just nipped out into space to fix it.
Outside someone (with a positive sec status ) locked me up in his Hurricane and started shooting. Despite the embarrassing fit with a hull rep'r instead of part of my proper tank I did at least get a few shots off but it was already a done deal. (why don't kill mails have my damage in them. It's bad enough having the hull rep'r for all to see. It would be nice to record I did at least fight back!)
My question is - with a proper fit does a Cruiser ever stand a chance against a Battlecruiser (assuming as in this case both parties have a decent number of skill points)? |

You will lose the straight dps/ehp battle so you need something that gives you anesge, such as bonuses tracking disruptors from arbitrator and such. For minmatar rupture wont beat hurricane but nano rupture should beat blaster boats like brutix but you wont see them much. Things change though if you take faction or t2 cruisers into account. |

As the underdog (in terms of damage and tank) you have to dictate the fight. If you can get either outside of range using propulsion mods, tracking disruptors, webs and so on, and use longer range guns on a close range brawling battlecruiser, then yes. Or the other way around of course - get under the guns and don't let the mofo get away.
You might have trouble breaking the tank of some ships though. A dual repped Myrmidon will most likely stay afloat until either help arrives, or the server shuts down for daily maintenance. Whatever occurs first. Unless you drain his capacitor, and as with everything, it's all a lot of "ifs" and "perhaps", and for the most part, the Battlecruiser will come out on top. So be sure to pick your fights |

Next time, just dock.
Unless you've shot him you can dock when pointed/scrammed. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. A well fitted PvP ship will win over a well fitted PvE ship. |

*Usually* a cruiser loose against a BC, and im aware you know perfecly thats intended and fine.
BC use the same weapons ( but more of them) have more slots to play with and better EHP, so you should not have any chance.
Still you can have some occasions where you can win. For example if the BC is long range fitted and you manage to orbit close, or if the BC is extremelly close range fitted ( brutix anyone?) and you kite at bigger distance with a fast ship, long range point and huge falloff ( autocannons with several track enchangers + barrage ).
As other sayd: if attacked close to a station just dock. |

usually you will not have a 1 on 1 fight.
nobody does it. TRY a pvp cruiser vs PVE fitted BC. If you know their weakness, you may win a fight.
Typical weakness - multiplate setup, bleeds through armor, but dies in the end. Large EM resist hole, typical for caldari shield tankers. Weapons with poor tracking, which may let you get under the guns, possibly stabber vs sniper harbinger. Stupid myrmidon vs cap neuting ship.
But you will not have such situations. Unless the enemy is stupid and pays no attention. |

A Cruiser needs to speed tank a BattleCruiser, it can't stand toe to toe with it. So stay away from missile ships, because cruisers aren't that fast and if they are then their signal is huge. Take something like a Vagabond agaist a turret BC and you got a good chance |

My 2 cents: Look at the cost of a PvP fitted BC vs a PvP fitted cruiser.
A BC like this cost over 50 million ISK A cruiser like this costs 20 million ISK.
Both ships carry anti-cruiser weapons. This gives you your guideline.
1 cruiser can beat a BC only in exceptional circumstances (BC fitting badly, making a mistake, etc( 2 cruisers are still outmatched by the BC, but if flown right could win. They should outgun the BC inititally, but one cruiser will die before the BC and then it's a DPS race between the surviving cruiser and the BC. 3 cruisers will own a BC.
Was in a fight the other night with 7 cruisers (including one EW cruiser) vs 4 BCs and a recon cruiser. Fight ended with 2 enemy BCs down and 1 cruiser from our side. |
