Why do they use turret hardpoints? It made some sense in the past when visible hardpoints on the ship were linked to the number of turret hardpoints it had, but now that turret hardpoints aren't necessary for mounted equipment to be visible on a ship, why do mining lasers and gas harvesters still use turret hardpoints?
I also don't want to see any comments about how it's "for balance", when it's clearly not. Even a ship with eight turret hardpoints fitted with mining lasers can't mine better than an exhumer fitted with strip miners, and no ship can fit more than five gas harvesters regardless of hardpoint count. There's no real reason for mining lasers and gas harvesters to use turret hardpoints anymore. In fact, it just seems backwards. I can put salvagers in my utility highs, but not mining lasers or gas harvesters? And why can't I put mining lasers and gas harvesters on my missile boat? The Caldari put business before pleasure. The Gallente put business in pleasure. |

If this were to be changed it should swing the other way. Mining Lasers, Gas Harvesters & Strip miners can NOT go in turret/missile hard slots. Due to 'incompatibilities' So if your ship has 4 turret slots (Use higher number of turret & missile slots) but 6 high slots, you can fit 2 mining lasers. This then allows certain ships more use as mining boats, and makes for the ability to make self protecting mining boats even using strip miners. Since they can then have more high slots than they can fit strip miners. |

I'd rather see strip miners require a turret hardpoint, and then we can add battlebarges with say 6 highs, 3 turrets, 4 launchers, and a bonus to mining and missiles.
You could sit there with 2 strips, and 4 bonused RLMLs, and try to bait a frig to engage you, or forget the strips (looking more like a bait ship if you're in a belt but not mining), and add 2 autocannons as well.
Imagine a procuror with extra highs, but those high must be used for missiles, and not more strips |
