I currently have Battlecruiser to level 3 and am about to buy a Ferox, again. If I know that I will be able to use a tweaked Ferox for level 4 missions then I will go ahead and train it up to level 5 so that I can get the increased resists in the short-term for level 3 missions. If not, I will just stop here and start preparing for the skills needed for the Raven.
Your thoughts?

Not for Level 4's unless you are well skilled in both BC and Missile or Gun skills ... even then I think you would have problems in a Ferox in a lot of the missions.
Even Raven can struggle in Level 4 solo
Level 3's you should be fine in a Ferox

I had a lot of success with my Ferox in level 4 missions. That said, my Raven is even more fun
Do not let your lack of a Raven prevent you from doing level 4 missions if that is what you wish to do in a Ferox. They are challenging and you have to be prepared to run, but a low cost T1/T2 fitted Ferox out tanks a low cost T1/T2 Raven which actually allows a Ferox to survive longer in level 4 missions. The Ferox lacks damage compared to the Raven however. Ultimately I switched into a Raven due to the lack of damage that a Ferox outputs. With my current 1+ billion isk Raven build and higher level skills, my Raven matches my old Ferox tank and massively out damages my old Ferox (Around 4x the DPS). It is set up to maximize damage and not maximize tank however.
I would suggest stopping at level 4 BattleCruiser if ultimately you want to end up in a Raven.

I'll do just that - thanks for the opinion.

I currently lack Weapon Upgrade V (ouch) Since this is a Ferox thread, I will post both builds rather than derail it entirely. Do not expect anything overly exciting on my Raven build though :)
Ferox
High ---- 5x Arbalest Heavy Launcher 2x 250mm Prototype Railgun
Medium ------ 2x NPC Specific Active Hardener II 3x Shield Extender II
Low --- 2x PDU II 2x BCU II
NOTE: I switch in AB when useful, I also switch out my low slots and switch in SPR where need for harder missions.
Raven (T1 Launchers)
High ---- 6x Arbalest Cruise Missile Launcher 2x Heavy Diminishing NOS
Medium ------ 3x NPC Specific Hardener II (I have some DG hardeners, no Invuls that I also use) 1x Gist B-Type X-Large Booster 2x Shield Amp I
Low --- 3x BCU II 2x PDU II
Raven (T2 Launchers - Work in Progess)
High ---- 6x Cruise Missile Launcher II 1x Heavy Diminishing NOS 1x Tractor Beam (Ya, I know, but I have fitting problems, better than it being empty)
Medium ------ 3x NPC Specific Hardener II (I have some DG hardeners, no Invuls that I also use) 1x Gist B-Type X-Large Booster 1x Copacetic Shield Amp 1x Cap Recharger II
Low --- 2x BCU II 3x PDU II
I am currently playing with the numbers, investing in DG Hardeners seems silly as I would need around 11 of them including a full set of DG Invul (230mill per) . So, I will likely pick up a Domination BCU for now (To be replaced with DG - BCU as I can afford). That should solve my fitting issues and allow me to run 3x BCU II and/or equivalents in my low slots again. I will gain more flexibility once I get my Weapon Upgrades to V.
Ultimately I want my build to look something like this skills and money permitting:
Raven (T2 Launchers - Goal within the next month)
High ---- 6x Cruise Missile Launcher II 1x TS Heavy NOS (30km range) 1x Drone Interface (+20km on Drone Range - I do not need the second NOS)
Medium ------ 3x NPC Specific Hardener II (I have some DG hardeners, no Invuls that I also use) 1x Gist B-Type X-Large Booster 1x DG Shield Amp 1x Faction Cap Recharger (Greater than 20%)
Low --- 3x DG BCU 2x Faction PDU (Low end TS probably)
Then I will start saving for my Navy Raven or Rattlesnake. I am still deciding which I prefer more. I tend towards versatility so I will probably settle on the Rattlesnake.

I hate having all my eve saving on one ship
so for a cheap ferox fitting great for lvl 3 P.S (im poor in gunnery )
5 heavy launchers (named if possible)
1 med nos
1 tractor beam (you will see)
2 specific active hardeners
1 cruiser afterburner
1 large shiled booster (tech II if possible)
rest is large extenders
for the lows : 2 bcu and rest is pdu or nano if ur cap is good
with this wierd fitting i get crazy speed witch allows me to loot and kill at the same time . u jump on a can and use tractor beam on a different one. Mutch faster
i know its weird but , its better then getting scramble in lvl4 and having to buy an other raven .
i guess its the carebear way

Edited by: Arakasai on 22/03/2006 22:19:31 Edited by: Arakasai on 22/03/2006 22:18:21 I do not have all my eve money invested in a single ship. At any given time I generally have about 400 mill kicking around in minerals and items. However, losing my ship would cause me pain and I probably would not be able to replace the shield booster for a couple of weeks
I also load WCS on missions that I do not know when they come up for the first time. Until I learn them
Also, I always keep a fully outfitted ship one step back. If I lost my Raven, I could hop into my Ferox and probably finish the mission. I am considering purchasing a spare Raven and equiping it with T2 equipment as my backup ship as well ... probably a 200 mill ship.

Thanx Arakasai.:) I think mine for mission running will look like that once i'll be able to afford it!:D And i would advise you to go for the Rattlesnake if you can, it's a tremendous ship, better than the CNR in my opinion! :) (On paper because obiously i didn't own them :))
