The most annoying part is I have to fly to Jita and buy a new one
Any tips on not being ganked or conversations to look out for that are certain ganks would be great.
Thanks in advance guys. |

But there is NO chance to never become ganked. Because some people are just crazy. They fly to a trade hub and switch on their smartbombs near the station... So if you have the pity and just undocked there - BANG.

So were you looking for fights or PVEing?

If you were just in lowsec for the slots, then what were you doing in a giant, fat target like a Dominix that you couldn't have accomplished in something much cheaper and much faster like a t1 frigate? |

Yes:
a guy asking for help + Low-sec = It's a TRAP

Wait.
You moved to low-sec for research slots and was doing that with a dominix?
May I ask why would you pick a ship that is such an easier target when there are many other ships that would be better tools for the situation?

Well, on your jump in, it warned you that you were entering "hostile" space.
Also, still, why the dominix when you could have brought something a bit smaller, more agile that should could have done the job. As I can't think about much things that really NEED a dominix to do in low-sec. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Another tip is to NEVER compare EvE to other MMO's.
WoW will hold your hand and give you a cookie every level up to 55. Which is why loads get bored and leave.
Eve will make you work a solid month all on your own for your first cookie. Then kick you in the nuts and take that cookie, and laugh at you for thinking you could have a cookie at all.

I also use lowsec slots for industry (research and copying).
When I move BPOs around, I do so in super fast aligning small ships. Interceptors, shuttles or assault frigates. (Cov-ops frigates are good too but I don't fly them).
I have only ever twice taken a battleship into lowsec. Once was for a fleet operation where we wanted a ship with a rack of heavy energy neutralizers; the other time was to experiment with using a Dominix as bait.
Winning fights in lowsec requires either overwhelming force (ie capital ships) or the ability to pick and choose your fights. The battleship provides neither. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. EVE's golden rule: Never trust anyone in-game unless you are sleeping with them in real life. Even then, they may only be screwing you to screw you. |

Disclaimer: if your new, your a long ways from pulling this off. Think of it as things to look forward too.
Battleships can make great little high/low gate camp breakers. Big tank and heavy firepower. So not completely useless in low sec, but not an everyday boat out there.
Torp ravens are pretty handy here, as a lot of gate camps will figure you for a lost mission runner if they are not on the ball, until it's too late of course.
Just remember to insure it :) like most 1vMany situations, you will judge your performance on how many you brought down with you rather than if you got away :) |

PvP fit cruisers and battle cruisers do wonderfully against low sec rats.
Another option is to convince some of your corpy's into moving out there with you.

OK, 1 year old character that takes domi for lowsec ratting and falls for "help me" convo trap? C'mon...
But on rare occasion that is not a troll: - do not fleet with people you don't know - do not help people you don't know - do not trust people you don't know
Basically as a lowsec or pvp or general newbie you are not able to really help anybody so safe yourself a hassle and do not engage in anything you have no idea how it works and how you may get exploded as a result. And if anybody got into trouble in lowsec they either baiting or really messed up so frakk them, if genuine maybe they will learn if not why should you bother? Don't mind the tinfoil hattery OP, I fully believe your story. I've seen people from 2005 do the most disingenious things and it all comes down to knowledge: of the mechanics and the meta. The mechanics dictate you are slow and fat in an environment that promotes speed and hit & run attacks. The meta dictates that a Dominix is expensive enough for people to want to have on their killboards. You put two and two together yourself...
As others have said, fast and quick-aligning ships, or covops-capable ships, have a far higher rate of survival when transporting goods. Your main vulnerability would be smartbombs, which are extremely situational weapons and thus quite rare in the actual field. While I have accounts of people experiencing a so called 'pipe-bomb' (getting smartbombed while in, or coming out of, warp) I have yet to be bombed like this myself.
So spread your risk, and train for appropriate ships. Covops (small volume, high value) and Blockade Runners (large volume, low value) are your safest bet. Use travel-fitted frigates if you have no access to covops, and warp-stab the hell out of any T1 industrials you might use. Do not use cargo expanders in lowsec... look into their actual penalties as to why, you'll see why those are a bad idea. |

CovOps are your best friend for moving small, expensive things, or yourself, since they have a warp speed of 8 AU. I would highly recommend training into CovOps ships. An added benefit of this is having a racial frigate at 5 also gives you access to Assault Frigates (provided you have the other skills necessary to fly them) Eve will make you work a solid month all on your own for your first cookie. Then kick you in the nuts and take that cookie, and laugh at you for thinking you could have a cookie at all. |

Assume everyone in local who you don't know is looking to gank you.
Learn how to use dscan and use it routinely.
Never assume anyone is afk or still docked. They could be cloaked, just 5km away.
Never talk in local, so you avoid giving away intel on whether or not you are active, avoid getting distracted, avoid being suckered in like you just were.
Also, as has been pointed out before, flying a battleship around solo without having a clue about pvp is a terrible idea.

I was as a noob taking a short cut through Rancer and honestly, I was seriously impressed. Didnt have a clue what had hit me.
They're easy to avoid, simply by not traveling gate to gate. Warp to a planet, then the gate to stay out of their line of fire.
