I hear people talking about bubbles. How do they work?

bubbles are anchorable buoys that prevent everyone from warping away from within their area of effect.
commonly used near gates to make sure noone that wants to jump either in or out can run away from you.
And yes, there's no direct counter to them. If you end up in one you are either fast enough to get out of its AOE or you tend to end up dead.

yeah what Rod said - ofcourse they can (as far as i remember) only be used in 0.0 space. They are very handy :) if you ever see graphic of one you'l know why they're known as a bubble

jumped to 0.0 came to.... 5 ships sitting around the jump gate, while cloaked I was looking around. Warped to a nearby asteroid field, then another and another. About 30minutes later I came back to the gate (figured it was the death of me and my pod, but what the hell). I could see a beacon right at the jump gate with a bluish white haze eminating from it. I thought for sure I was dead. There were maybe 2 or 3 ships there, the other two were no doubt looking for me. I didn't know what the "bubble" was, but it neither hindered my speed nor my jump. It wasn't active when I came through earlier... They missed their opportunity, I jumped out and was safe. PHEW

There are also interdictor bubbles. They launch from an interdictor (tech2 destroyer), come up instantly, extend to 20km, and last 5 minutes. ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

Can bubbles interupt a warp if the lie between two gates, or do they only prevent warping in the first place?

You mean if they lie between two JUMP GATES? As far as I know they can't hinder jumping, because I jumped while inside one in my first week playing.

They WILL suck you to the outer edge of the bubble if they are in your line of warp. So if there is a bubble 80km in front of the gate, and you have an insta to land on the gate, you will end up at the edge of the bubble, 80+km from the gate. This also works on "sucking" bubbles, which will pull you beyond the gate is placed behind it. ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! A bubble works in two ways:
1. It stops anything that is within its AOE from angaging warp. That's the simple one.
2. It draws everyone that is coming out of warp into its AOE IF: (a): the target was warping on a directional line which intersects the bubble at some point. (b), if the warp the target is doing would normally end within the same grid of space as the bubble is located in.
That's it more or less, with some weirdness due to small bugs making things slightly more unpredicatble sometimes.
All in all thath means bubbles can not pull people out of warp unless the warp was scheduled to end in the same grid and the warp direction is the same direction as the bubble is in from a pilots' viewpoint.
No placing between two gates at a midwarp safespot no.

The best defence against a bubble is a micro warpdrive. It's not a failsafe defence but often very effective, specially when combined with a few stabs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can a 'bubble' be placed right on top of a gate or station?

A normal bubble must be anchored at least 5km from any other stationary object (this still means it can cover parts of the station/gate) but an interdictor bubble can be launched anywhere. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How long can these bubbles last if anchored?
