Good morning all,
Just wanted to drop a note here about Extra Life, if you aren't aware of what Extra Life is, it's a 24 hour gaming marathon that happens every year to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. It was started in 2008 by Doc from Sarcastic Gamers after the loss of Tori Emmons to cancer. Last year's Extra Life was the largest ever raising approximately 4 million dollars, more than all the other years combined.
If you would like to participate you can sign up at http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?
The 24 hour marathon takes place on the 25th-26th of October this year, however you are free and encouraged to do it whenever best suits you. |

If it's a well documented scam why does Sony, Blizzard, Trion, Twitch, Microsoft, Roosterteeth, Xsplit all back it? Also why have I seen first hand where the money goes?
Oh and for proof you can look at their page, you can also look up the Diablo 3 challenge from last year, and you can see the advertisement on PSN... The only thing I can't back up with proof is the seeing the money. |

Ugh, no.
A simple google search of this charity and how much payroll from "donations" is funneled to CEO and other players = just no.
Better to donate your cash elsewhere. |

they do some good but it's in the very low end for charity
if you want to support your local hospital - there are much better ways of doing it then paying for these to play with your cash

Ah, I thought they meant the Extra Life thing itself being a scam.
Can't say I'm surprised though, same as any other 'charity' at the end of the day.

Extra life and the charity are supposedly run by the same people. so extra life pulls in the money, paying their expenses, then pays the rest to the charity who then pays their expenses, leaving practically zip for the actual cause. I did in detail last year.
*edit* no the extra life thing is awesome, the "charity" organization they choose to use is crooked. And yes, I'm not surprised Microsoft uses them based on their early sales practices with Windows.
Guys, the hospitals have to pay to receive the money, or they don't get on the list. The charity organization uses some of the funds to throw lavish parties for the founders. I spent hours going through their financials, and it wasn't pretty.
I wish extra life would just donate right to the major childrens' hospitals. That, I could support. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

1. Don't you think Erotica 1 knows that this is ironic? Most of her posts are, or are tinged by a strange and slightly sadistic sense of humor.
2. Find me a claim of scamming on this forum that is backed by evidence. There are a few, but far more have none. |

In the past, there was all this talk about how great the extra life thing is, and how they chose the childrens miracle network for how amazing they were. just real life alts lol
Say what you want about the game, but I'll speak up when it comes to real life cash and children. I totally get that charities have operational expenses, but the fact that money is fungible makes things confusing for most people. Think of the donations as a product that they are moving if that helps you, and back it out of the equation.
If I made a thread that I am raising money for charity, but I need a lot of cash up front, will charge you a percentage of the money raised, and that you will go and hire my friends to do nonsense jobs, everyone here would be up in arms and want me banned and in prison. Throw some third parties in between to do that instead and suddenly it's a great idea. Oh, and then I take cash out of the charity for personal stuff above and beyond reasonable operating expenses. Oh yeah, and I hire questionable people to run the thing.
