Okay okay, I know I post a lot but I love genrating discussions and well I've found actual player interaction to be much more useful than any guides thus far!
Well I've almost finished the tutorials now (just coming to the end of the advanced military tutorial.... my last one) and well I'm still none the wiser as to where to head next! I've investigated many different routes, Factional Warfare, pvp corps such as the brave newbies or maybe eve just continuing on with missioning into the sisters of EVE and well I just can't decide what to do there just way too much choice!
To make matters worse I started reading up on ship fittings and well the complexity of this aspect of the game simply made my head spin, is it this complicated for everyone? Can it be learnd. I'm starting to feel kinda' overwhelmed by EVE and its a little scary. Am I making the game to hard on myself by looking in to too much?
Is there an easier direction or am I looking at the game wrong? I'm enjoying the game at the moment but I feel like I'm ready for a change.
On I final note I really would like to stick around because the game is just so damned impressive and my 21 day trial account is fast coming to a close. So where's the best place to pick up my first plex.
Once more thanks for any hell you guys can offer up! Cheers Trigger |

The problem I am seeing is you don't know where to go next in eve - and you want to learn how to fit ships.
Well you're not going anywhere right now, you need to solve that problem first before you figure out how to get there, or which ship to fly there.

Good advice.
While you are doing this, I recommend doing the Sisters of Eve epic arc. It's a real set of missions with good rewards, designed to help new players get their feet wet after the tutorials.
The eve wiki page on it is a good place to start, search for "Blood-Stained Stars." On mobile or I'd link it for you. |

Asking dedicated questions and having multiple "hands on" replies are generally better then basing your decisions on a guide written by someone (who will always write it in his perspective).
Keep up the posting.

Try different things out, you can't judge something if you haven't tried it at least once. Other then that, your gut feeling will tell you when you found what you are looking for.
Just do what ever you find fun to do in EVE, and if that eventually means you must move to something different, just move. Personally, I started EVE as a miner. When I got bored of that, I moved on to missions. And in time I slowly grew into PvP. Now a days, I either log in and have chats with people and spam the forums OR I'm joining a PvP fleet that is open to me and go and lose ships and hope to take some people down with me.
EVE professions aren't fixed, you can always switch when ever you want.

At start, fitting a ship will be hard. There is so much choice in modules and tactics. But in time, it will grow on you and you will learn the ins and outs of fitting ships. Hell, 3 years in game and I'm NOT a master fitter at all. I know basically how to fit some ships I use very often. But don't ask me to come up with a fit for a certain ship on the spot as I will suck at it.

You are getting informed, which is already a good pro in game. But I do suggest, don't go over the top with this. Don't forget you are playing a game and first and foremost should just have fun while playing it. Knowledge will be gathered over time anyway.

Personally, I would go just take on a recurring subscription from the account management page. Because they are cheaper then buying PLEX or ETCs elsewhere.
If you take on a 1 year subscription, you pay roughly between 10 and 12 Euro a month for the game (keep in mind, you have to pay for the entire year in 1 go).
If you don't like to be rebilled automatically after a year, after the time is added to your account, you can just cancel the subscription. Any time you have bought is yours and will not be taken away from you.

I'd say join eve university as your first corp . They are basically dedicated to teaching new players about any and all aspects of the game.
From there you can get a taste of all of eve, and decide what path you want you to walk down.

Take it one step at a time. And understand that going one way or another does not necessarily mean you are "locked in" to that specific thing.
I personally do Faction Warfare... but when I get tired of it I go out and explore wormholes, mine a little bit, or log into my alt character (on the same account) to do some trading and hauling.
All that matters at the end of the day is this; are you having fun?
Trigger Zo wrote:To make matters worse I started reading up on ship fittings and well the complexity of this aspect of the game simply made my head spin, is it this complicated for everyone? Can it be learnd. I'm starting to feel kinda' overwhelmed by EVE and its a little scary. Am I making the game to hard on myself by looking in to too much? We have all been there. And speaking as a veteran... you will never get it quite right. With so many combinations and tactics all you can do is prepare for certain situations and avoid those that you are not prepared for... or disregard preparation entirely and emulate Leeroy Jenkins (NOTE: doing this can get quite expensive).
"Hands-on" training and experience was how I learned what I know. It never came to me quickly and 5 years on I can still sometimes still be an idiot about it.
Trigger Zo wrote:Is there an easier direction or am I looking at the game wrong? I'm enjoying the game at the moment but I feel like I'm ready for a change. EVE is a "process game." It is all about perspective and mentality.
If you want to do something... do it. And when you fail (everyone fails), do it again. Change up your tactics, learn a new method... find what works for YOU. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

One option to explore (tee hee) is exploration.
Here is another new player's report of how they managed to buy a PLEX while on the 21 day trial, using exploration as their main income stream: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=317915&find=unread

If you don't know the corp or the guy, i'm not sure i'd join. If you were in the recruitment channel, that's different. TBH as many have said you need to figure out what you like doing in the game, once you have that set then the rest is cake walk. I'll give you an example:
When I started eve, me and two buddies came form another game. They got into pve really quick and loved it, so they focused on that. I tried pve and doing missions and did not enjoy it very much. I was nto sure what else to do, and was getting bored. I was debating on quiting once my trial ran out. Another friend who came here from that same old game suggested I try industry, like making things or maybe mining. I figured I have nothing to lose so what the heck, and grabbed a bantum and went mining. In an hour I was hooked, I was a miner. So my goals all became mining geared, get t2 miners, get a ship that can use 5 of them (this was before barges) get mining drones.. oh I need to work on refning... oh specialized refining... oo I need a hauler... you get the picture. Analize what you are doing and find what little thing is the most fun, it can be anything really. I eventually got bored of mining but found out I liked sitting in a station and talking to people, so I made a corp and find recruitment fun. Then I liked pos'. then mission running, then sov, etc. One thing will lead to your next thing to do. The point is, like IRL find what you enjoy doing and do that, then you will have a whole path of things to train and aim for. And you will then find other things that come off that first thing that you enjoy and can branch out. Eve is a game of chess, you play your moves and then do them. But the first step is saying "you know I find XXX enjoyable, i'll do that"
Finding a good corp that you can fit with helps too. Join the recruitment channel, check the forums, and talk to people. |

If you're talking about these people, I think you will learn a lot from them.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=9146
However you will pay the price at 20% tax rate.
The other thing about corporations (which keeps me out of a corporation) is that generally there are rules, or a system of doing things in order to be in that corp, rather than learning to play eve.
I would rather learn to play eve first, my way.
However I wouldn't be able to tell you all that without experience that comes from being in excellent corporations in the past.

not always, I always ran a free form corp, it sucked for getting stuff done, but I just kinda let people do almost anything they wanted. I pland on fixing that when I start recruiting though. |

You know what I did last night?
I went mining. Solo. In a Venture. Grabbed some Scordite for a storyline mission I may do someday.
Why? Because I felt like it. No other reason.
Didn't need the ISK; I have many billions. Didn't need to minerals; I can buy whatever I need. Didn't have to do it solo, as I have 5 accounts and a max skill Orca pilot (heck, I even own a Rorqual). Didn't even have to use a Venture; I have Exhumers 5 (110m SP). I did it simply because at that moment I considered it enjoyable.
You have to find something in EVE you like doing! EVE is a sandbox; the only content is what YOU generate or go looking for.
One thing I have discovered is that it is a lot more fun doing anything, or even nothing at all, when you do it with friends.

I don't know the corp first hand, so I won't comment there.
Don't be wary of being "taken advantage of". Some lessons are best learned by making your own mistakes. Maybe these guys are awesome, maybe they're a bunch of blowhards always talking about how awesome they're going to be one day but never actually doing anything to get there, maybe they're just a middle-of-the-road hi sec wardeccing corporation. Who knows?
Join up, see if they "fit", and if you don't think they're right for you, try somewhere else. You'll have a better idea of what to look for next time.
If you're interested in PvP the first options that spring to mind are:
- Stay Frosty (look for Rixx Javix in game)
- Red Versus Blue (https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Red_Vs_Blue_(RvB))
- Brave Newbies (http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/74260)
- New Order of Eden (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBGUpCLzuIQ)

I have heard of them. They're in my alliance. I didn't mention them because I prefer to keep my posts either clear (no recruiting) or made in totally trollmode.
Concordiat is a "newbro" nullsec corporation.
Their main objective is to get new players into null. They will give you a starterpack, teach you the basics etc. They've been at it for quite some time. For some people this is a great start since you'll be swimming "in the deep". Since my alliance is known for the large number of "real" n00bs in it; most people like me will be rather forgiving about mistakes made.
They will not take advantage of you. That will be me expecting you to point a dude while I shoot him for us :)
In order to determine if joining them suits your gameplay needs you can chat with them first. If all fails; contact me and I'll hook you up. If you decide to join based on that, remember that you won't join for life. If the magic is gone; move on.
