Hi all !
the Sisters of Eve Faction Frigate : ASTERO
Ok, so can anyone please tell me .. if i had the resources... ISK and didn't care about losing one or two of these...
1) pros and cons ? I heard some kind of issue with the cloaking delay or something ?
2) again if i don't care about the killmail if i lose it.. or the ISK involved. is this good for flying low/null sec Exploration ?
Someday I figure i'm gonna have my scanning skills at iV or and hopefully all V.. do i need them all at V ? probably more efficient yes ?
is this thing just flown for the cloaking buns ? or what ? it only sports ONE turret available after I put a core probe scanner on it. s i guess this needs max drone skills to protect itself ?
I'm gonna be flying a Heron and or Magnate in the meantime.. but i'm wondering if its worth it to get this frigate at some point ?
my thanks as always for the input !

What do you want to use it for?
For running data and exploration sites, there are better (read, more economical) choices, such as any CovOps.
The only benefits of the Astero over a Helios is that it has a 25m3 drone bay, and armour bonuses. Neither of which do you need on an exploration ship, and it costs over 3x as much.
I am going to plug my own fit here. This is what I use for null sec exploration. Make sure you read the comments, as they explain WHY I chose what I did.

The problem with the astero is that it doesn't have the CPU necessary for a full fit and an expanded probe launcher. No expanded launcher means no combat probes, which means no scanning down other ships. |

You better serve some damn good ice cream if you go into null-sec in that thing.
Now where is my strawberry shortcake bar?!?!? Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

I use the stratios to deploy siphons. I like it, the cloak delay was lowered in 1.1 btw |

I'm definitely gonna read this link tho.. thank you ! http://ahanddrawnlife.tumblr.com my artwork ! The Journey :-áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=315016&find=unread |

Now where is my strawberry shortcake bar?!?!? i know right ? that ship would definitely attract some fun "content " for me if i tried to fly one in Null.. rofl
For low/null exploration I'd stick with a normal CovOps frigate. Much much cheaper for when you lose the first six or so while learning the ropes.

definitely right folks. hymn the cov-ops ships do look sexy ! I'll probably try to spend an hour or 2 a night just looking at the map.. and reading kill traffic on where i want to be.
wow those new sisters of EvE ships ARE really expensive.. LOL but dangit.. someday I will be able to say.. who cares if its that expensive... =p http://ahanddrawnlife.tumblr.com my artwork ! The Journey :-áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=315016&find=unread |

I normally prefer to use a covert ops for flying around in null sec - its a recent thing for me. Even more recently I noticed there are frigates in relic/.data sites, that Im supposed to be in. So now I am going to start exploring in null sec in a Loki. If I see an astero in a relic/data site I will kill that too.

The astero could beat any of the other cov-ops ships at a data/relic site, couldn't it? You could attack them and take their loot, or at least keep them from attacking you. Eve University shows a PvE fit that a cov-ops couldn't do.
With all the slots and 3 rigs, could the astero fit a sisters expanded probe launcher (for hunting other ships)?
