As awesome as that is, 3D printing needs a lot more fine tuning... Stargates aren't located within POS shields. The stargate itself and everyone around it is vulnerable to attack. So why is a Titan located within a POS shield when a Jump Portal is activated? The Titans should not be allowed complete safety! |

Did you peeps design the models for the ships yourself, or did you somehow port them from Eve's datafiles?
if you did the first, maybe you should see if CCP is willing to 'lend' you their 3d models and get them properly printed. now THAT might really get awesome. * pokes CCP *

This is a hotglue printer am I right? The powder sintering printers get extreme level of detail so you people who aren't happy with this will be in for a treat as the powder-sintering printers become common. I think the result is awesome, its just too small :D Make bigger modular ones then you can have the appropriate level of detail. |

We are trying different type of modular connections, if we find the right one, there will be bigger ones.
This model was made before we found the simplest and best "surface smoothing" method for this kind of printer models (yes it is a kind of hotglue printer, it is melting a plastic string), but still it is quite satisfactioning to convert a bucket of internet spaceship bits into a real life thingy

I would love to get a 3D scan of my Collector's Edition Rifter and 3D print it out. While I absolutely love the paint job on it, it feels too flimsy to actually use, I fear I will break it. So I'd love to have a model available that would let me print a more durable copy (and maybe use some metal rods or something for the poky bits). TriExporter should be able to pull the model for any ship in the game into a format you can use in 3D software. You may need to convert it to a different format to make it something suitable for your 3D-printing software though. |

Oh, and on a side note, an acetone vapour bath will help smooth the edges. Basically, small amount of acetone in a large jar, place a stand in jar, put part on stand, place jar on a hot plate, heat jar. It comes out beautifully.

Really Cool
Would love to have one of those 3D printers,
I have come across this recently, which shows a lot of promise as well as being free textures for printers.
First link is for a Cynabal that has been printed in modular fashion as discussed earlier.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=warning&l=http%3a%2f%2fwww.thingiverse.com%2fthing%3a107450&domain=thingiverse.com
The second link is for the selection of Ship and Drone files already made ready for printing.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=warning&l=http%3a%2f%2fwww.yeggi.com%2fq%2feve%2bonline%2f&domain=yeggi.com
Looks rather interesting to say the least.

We used the makerbot software, This is ABS with support, resulotion was 0.20 mm. No slicing program was used just the good old slicing knife. Angle:45 deg and 3 layer surface.
Also thank you for all the ideas and the support, there will be more ships for sure, the models are exported from cinema 4d to stl format,, because the printing software uses that format.
@Quantus and Dkeh Weis: Yes, if you look at the Daredevil it was made with the acetone vapour bath, but the acetone was low quality, now waiting for industrial grade acetone and we will give another try.

First of all, congratulation! The choice of Mega was a good one.
May I ask if it was printed using Stereolithography or plastic extrusion/FDM? Did it take to much time? It is solid or hollow? Where did you get the .stl file?
Sorry for asking, but probabily I will have access to a 3D printer myself, and I collecting tips and ideas to use.

Thank you! It was printed using FDM, the object is solid (support grids in the inside). It takes cca 5-6 hours to print it (it is fast, if you want more details it takes more time). For the stl file contact Quinn Narim he is will share all the models with you. |

Very cool! Did you do the design with CAD yourself?

The Frigate sized ships will look awsome with a finished paint job. But I think that the Battleships need to be bigger. At the moment what is it, about 10cm long? I think too much detail blurs and becomes a tad messy.
I'd suggest, focus on Frigate sized ships, negotiate a deal with CCP and make some money.
A damned good effort though and I would certainly pay hard cash for a set of Amarr Frigates |
