It's just a question of technological advancement. Said advancement happened in lore with the discovery of the "new" implant tech DUST mercs - and, appearantly Valkyrie pilots - use... but, IMO the concept of the pod still holds up to a certain extend, though. I mean, you can always argue that controlling a large ship requires much more intricate data connections then controlling a combar suit or star fighter... connections, only a full immersion neuro interface can provide. Still no reason why capsuleers should have to stay suspended in a "pod filled with goo" for the rest of their "eternal" lifes... hell, for all we know, the bodies we might use to "prance around all pretty in stations" could just as well be remote controlled husks.
The plan, at least from CCP Presents, so take that with a grain of salt if you will, is that we, being eve players, will be able to 'clone' into 4 states of consciousness. 1 being eve, 2 being legion/dust, and 3 being valk. So we will eventually be leaving our pods to do other things. IF the plan of everything rolled into one comes true |

Pass it on. I think that this is closer to the truth. Like I mentioned in one of the other redundant dead horse WiS threads, it looks like what they wrote in the team avatar thread points to Legion, and quite possibly integration. If this is true, they would leave WiS mostly as it is, and as they have, and when you enter hostile stations or whatnot, you will be wearing a Legion suit (as they mentioned suits etc.). At the time they already had Dust going, and knew that it would eventually be ported to the PC once the contract was up with SONY, so were more likely bouncing around the idea of integrating the FPS into the EVE client. Obviously they roughly know how to with the EVE client, just as they did with Carbon and it's integration. |

Really, you could take any of the individual elements (graphics card meltdowns, eliminating the hangar, lack of actual gameplay, years of half-assed features going untouched, $1000 pants, "Greed is Good" leak) and by itself it would probably be remembered as a bad expansion. Roll it all together and it's a miracle CCP didn't go bankrupt; it's not surprising so many players are soured on the idea of WIS and CCP is gun shy about picking it up again.
All that said, I think WIS can work, but it has to be meaningfully connected to the core spaceship game to be worth doing. "EVE is a spaceship game" doesn't mean any mechanic that doesn't directly involve spaceships is bad; PI, for instance, is basically a city management minigame, but it drives spaceship content. Virtual bars and poker rooms aren't going to do that; there needs to be some compelling way for WIS content to generate spaceship content.
With the unified theory coming, of all ccp games unified, they could easily add WiS that would benefit the games. For example, a war room where you can get a 3d map if your dust bunnies battling it out on the ground, or you can see where your ships are during a battle, or valkaryie pilots zipping along in there battle. It would be hard to do, but something like that would generate space content. |

Nice, but totally missed my point. Which was, by claiming it's impossible, you practically guarantee it will happen. The Universe seems to work like that.
And, bluntly, neither of us have any idea what will happened between here and Q5 2016. CCP could bought out by EA and run into the ground (WAR, SWTOR). |

Maybe uh... the black hole in the center of our galaxy will decide to defy physics and gulp up the entire milkyway in one momentary binge and EVE forever caught in a timeless singularity without even as much as a satisfying burp to ever come of it. SC is actually no threat to eve.
I wouldn't be too sure about that. In my experience, there are many, many PvE, or PvE/PvP EVE players who play EVE because it's the only spaceship game in town, and merely tolerate the "silly" side of it. Or to put it another way, there are many EVE players who have adapted to EVE because it's the only serious space game in town, but don't necessarily love every little aspect of it.
Of course EVE is also a very rich, deep game , and that complexity is attractive. It's also got some great art design, lore, etc.; and these are also reasons for such a mainly-PvE-oriented player to keep playing EVE.
But ... if SC turns out to be all it promises to be, i.e. to have a comparable degree of gameplay richness, but with the PvP side a bit more tethered and less of a griefers' paradise (which seems to be what the SC crew is aiming at, judging from what I've seen of the way they're constructing the multiplayer galaxy and how the chance of random PvP encounters is going to be tailored to the level a player wants), then I could see quite a few players deserting EVE.
I wouldn't dare to venture a serious punt as to how big a chunk might be taken out of the EVE playerbase, but my intuition tells me probably at least 1/4.
However, that's a HUGE "if". |

Or a lost cause? No one wanted WIS to happen back then there was going to be an outrage and lots of players were going to leave the game. This is a spaceship game and CCP said in a statement somewhere in these forum or threads in the past that WIS is not going to happen. So do not expect CCP to worrie about useless WIS its not going to happen at all and it is a lost cause. That is where Dust 514 has taken over with Walking and Fighting on Planets.
This is not correct.
Some people would enjoy WiS, some can't be bothered but NONE of us wanted WiS to have the main DEV focus as the game was in a bad state ( as it was back then). And while you're of course entitled to your opinion it's hardly factual nor are you speaking for all of us.
To me and many others WiS is FINE, once the game is in a decent state (so kinda after POS/SOV changes). |

If anything, I think that's why most players will decide to stay. The idea of roaming the galaxy and bumping into people/bots of certain levels is too much 'them park' for me. Eve is cold and brutal, noobs run into the wrong people every day and even seasoned veterans can be surprised by the capricious nature of eve and lose their ship, cargo and isk to to anyone with the right skillset and expertise.
Eve is a simulation of something much more closer to real life in a sci fi setting than star citizen, and whilst I welcome WIS content I will not be leaving for SC because I want an experience as authentic as possible and not artificially limited by game mechanics (unless there's some good science fiction to explain them perhaps).

NPCs in there, have some sort of card game, a jukebox, ect ect. i don't need to tell most of you how damn boring being stuck in a station is, at least give me a reason to stay alone rather than going "Oops, camped. guess i'll go play starcraft." We don't know that yet though. They could very well launch a stand alone f2p version and then fork another version directly into the EVE client. There have been games that have used two totally different engines in the same game client, switching from one to the other when needed within the client. |

I dunno
All I want is the ability to use the same avatar across both games. I'm not too fussed about having to alt tab between the two clients.
In fact the advantage to have two separate clients (rather than one massive one) is that you could be mining in one client and playing legion in another, and not having your computer cry out in pain. EVE Chronicle: An audio drama set in the EVE universe
