I'm not even going to read all the replies so I'm not sure if this has been said. Without pirates this game is no fun. You have no one to challenge and no one to try to work yourself better than. If pirates really irratate you that much then just don't go into 0.0 space. There are lots of scordite rocks to mine in 1.0 space.
I've been both a non-pirate and a pirate. I can tell you that it's much more difficult to survive as a pirate. We are constantly being hunted by larger "legit" corps and even other pirates as well. Therefore we have to keep the mentality that everyone who is not a friend will try to kill you. We can't go into safe space so we're trapped in 0.0. That is why we protect it and blockade gates, it's our home. If we don't protect it, we die.

Yeah right! Protecting gates since it's your home. Like someone is attcking your space. All people want is to pass trough the system you call your wown and you call that attcking?
Campers camp to kill and steal, don't sell me those 'protecting the home' lies man. And if you are chased by other pirate coprs I'm happy about it. I hope you start killing each other more often so that I can jump in and pickup the loot you have stolen from others (and me):)

let me see, you have an alt character for making money, and a pirate one to mess things, and probably the trader donates the pirate. No problem, after all pirates are part of the game, I was talking if "Chizm" is the real name of the pirate or di you create a character "chizm" just to make posts, thats all.

How about urself, is that a alt char u posted in to stop ur real char getting flamed? U could use the ingame character search to see if we were infact who we say we are.
Of course it is my real character, and if I am "flammed" or podded, well... it is part of the game too, ****s happen in life. I am stil in my first month in the game,noob,but then, who knows after some time maybe I will encounter you

Second, any whiner here could've chosen to be a pirate and could've had the benefits/downfalls that go along with it. If you people who whine about not having the ISK (that pirates apparently have) would take the time that you spend posting here to the market to look for trade runs, you'd all be rich.

Of course my kids goto school & join in with the swearing, but i dont like it, and i dont see why anyone should be subject to it in a public game forum. My kids prolly love it, and laff at u when they read ur post... but i dont, i dont like it, it doesnt affect u at all cause wheres theres no sense theres no pain.
The thing is, its against the forum rules, so i am whining about that fact more than anything.

ok.. I didn't read the whole thread but...

Pirating is and has always been a profitable proffesion, why else choose such a career? Many corps can go bankrupt, I've never heard of a pirat gone bankrupt... mutiny perhaps but not bankrupt? Maybe u missunderstood that pirates can have alot of money even tho they have bad teeth and no dresscode?
I say that we let NPC police do to much of the work keeping the pirates out.
I think best would be if Stations were destructables and not safe havens.. let players be the police and get it more deadly...
I am a hardworking lawabiding man but I want danger with a capitol D... The galaxy are the most peacefull place I ever seen, in RL a kindergarden is more dangerous... if I wanted to play a safe and cute little game I would have chosen My little pony or something...

In many diffrent types of games, I have encountered the same types of opinions as the author of this thread.
To sum up my opinion:
"You may do whatever the game allows. If you do not agree with the way the game works, make contructive suggestions of improvement. Do not whine. Use common sense."
Now, TIvian and you who side with him. Do you think that the game is used in a manner that it was not intended? Is it too fictional? It IS a fiction game you know.

Hm, do you really think that it is logical that piracy has not developed since the year 1300?
Today we got pirates, Maffia and other types of criminals that surely can spend thier money freely, buy whatever they want etc.

Even if a new pirate carrier was created, and everyone that choose this carrier, got higher prices when buying stuff.. i guess people could create alternative characters, and have 'merchants' in thier corps, that did all the buying. And.. how would you be able to enforce the piracy-way-of-living on regular people that later turned into pirates? Should everyone that got a sertain profession, but live the pirate-way-of-life (all "old" pirates) get thier characters deleted? In what manner should the game masters or admins, decide who is a pirate and who is not?
Do you suggest that the police should be able to prohibit piracy transactions?
I think that what you are asking for is not possible to enforce in-game. If you thought about this one or two times more, i think you probably understand this aswell. Or maybe it's just me being abit thick ;) I'm still a kinda EVE-newbie. :)
Conclusion.. alot of whine.. no constructive suggestions of improvement.

Borghildar, It seemed to me and my friends that criminals don't just walk into a bank and deposit the money from the bank that they robbed around the coner. I know I know...this is a game...and I really don't pretend to believe that I know what the devs had in mind when creating this game as to what was supposed to happen with pirates. but with reading the story line and all, it seemed to me that pirates (and this is my opinion as well as some others)have or had it too easy. there is a way to enforce what I have said in game through nerfing and content...I have seen it in other mmorpgs IE Asherons Call and Everquest and DAOC and Anarchy Online. but since reading more of what the pirates are saying it seems as though things are kind of evening out. And I was using the pirates of Old as a model. I admit to compair a way of life that died centuries ago to a futuristic game was lame. but it seems to me that in game criminals should be chased by Concord(not devs or gms in battleships...even though that was kind cool.) The pirates seemed to be more of game griefers back in the day...not so much anymore. any way Like I said not everyone is going to agree with this post..I just didn't want it to turn into the flamming turd that it did. and I have come to see both sides of the fence. I was just a thought.
