I've got a fair bit of cash, trained up some skills and outfitted my Trasher, so I'd like to give some solo PvP a shot. Right now my Thrasher is running seven turrets and a light missile launcher in its heavy slots, a MWD, webifier and warp scrambler in its medium slots, and some reinforced armor and a warp booster (so I don't get jammed) in its low slots.
I've heard that the Rifter is a good PvP ship to start out in, so I might try that, but I figured that once I outfitted my Thrasher with an MWD, I can close fast, terminate a ship and bug out without much hassle. At some point I'd like to try dogfights, but for now, this setup seems most effective.
Anyway. The crux of the issue is that I really don't know some good systems to start hunting in or how best to operate solo. If anyone could give me some ideas, or point towards someone who can, that'd be much appreciated.
Cheers! |

First of all, get rid of that warp core stab. You can replace it with a damage control or a small ancillery armor repairer. Both of them will greatly improve the defense of your thrasher.
The rifter used to be the best pvp t1 frig, but these days it is outperformed by many other ships.
You can try out FW systems in lowsec, either as a pirate or join one of the militias youself. One Man Crew - Collective solo pvp |

Noted.
I outfitted my ship and attempted to jump into a -0.1 security system, only to find myself in the middle of a warp disruption bubble and to be fired on by ships I couldn't even see. Destroyed and podded inside of thirty seconds. Well that endeavour ended quickly... |

Screw nullsec, go to lowsec. And before you do, read up on pvp, fittings, tactics, mechanics. Otherwise you will just end up broke and frustrated.

TBH the best way to learn pvp is to join a pvp corp that does the kind you want to do.
RVB is good an all but it is a bit of a contrived area.
I like to solo a lot 2/3 of my kills are solo kills. I would recomend you get yourself to a low sec region like Black Rise, Placid, Essence etc and hunt around there.
As to what ship to fly. Well now that the frigs/dessy/cruisers etc have all been rebalanced I would say take the ship that appeals to you the most. Both in terms of looks/style and how it performs etc as if you don't actually 'like' the ship you get fed up with it quickly.
Pick one that you think is your style and go grab a stack of them. TBH any of the combat/attack frigs/cruisers are viable now. Personally I like Rifters, Excutioners, Tormentors the most. But each to their own.
One thing I will say is take most of the advice about 'this ship is crap/best because....' with a big pinch of salt. Now more than ever in eve the balance between the ships is excellent and most ships can be killed/escaped from by most other ships, yes including the rifter (which is probably the most underrated right now).
Just don't get hung up on losing stuff and you'll do fine

Stay in low sec. Placid and Black Rise or the Amarr/Min FW areas should be your areas. They will provide large amounts of targets from both militas and pirates in the area.
I suggest starting in cheap kite frigates until you learn the basics. ie TD Condor that's worth 2mil ISK. Don't worry about losing them in stupid ways, just remember HOW you lost them and think about why you lost them. You'll learn what modules your enemies are using and maybe get 1-2 kills of your own. After that, I'd graduate to a class of frigates, brawling, scram kiting, or full time kiting, and use all T2 mods. Get in the habit of taking all the fights you can get, and then after the fight checking to see why you lost.. Your first instinct should not be to run from an outnumbering gang, but how to defeat them by yourself. |

While you can go out, and try your hand at solo PvP- it really is not advisable, because doing so is very time and isk inefficient. I would suggest joining up with a group of small gang PvP'ers or having a small gang PvP corp letting you in, and teaching you the ropes. PvP in eve is mostly about 4 things:
1. Game knowledge (ship fits, mechanics, gun / EWAR ranges / transversal / DPS / Tank) 2. Situational awareness (Being able to quickly size up an enemy fleet / ship / engagement / situation) 3. Mechanics (Having all of your weapon, and module overheat / activation on hotkey) 4. Manual piloting (How well can you control you ship by double clicking in space
Those 4 things are not the most easy thing to learn by yourself, and playing by yourself can quickly lead you down inefficient / poor ways of PvPing.
I will be on, and flying some small gang around 0230 EvE time today with some of my friends. You are welcome to join us, send me a PM if you are interested. |

It sounds silly, fraps your solo fights Go back and watch them look at the range you were at and they were at how fast both ships were going, what ammo you had loaded, etc. Load your ship into eft and compare to your observations. look at the kill\loss history of the person you fought, cooy their fitting from the killboard and eft it too. I also suggest you convo the person you fought and ask what you did wrong/right. Many people will give you feedback.
Unless you know why you win/lost, you arent going to learn alot. Yes go lose a lot of ships, but make sure you learn from them.
Edit :typing on mobile, sry for **** formatting. I'm probably typing on an iPad, which means the auto-correct is silly and fixing typos is a pain. I ain't fixing them. |

I've finally tried to make the jump into PVP too, so far I suck but the important thing is I know why I suck.
You should try the Kurala constellation and surrounding areas in Black Rise. It's quiet enough that you won't get blobbed if you pay attention, but active enough that you can find 1v1s and 1v2s with out much trouble. Just jump around the plexes and dscan so you have a better idea of what you are dealing with before engaging.
Stick with T1 frigates and T1 destroyers with solid fits, know what you can engage with the fit but don't be afraid to attack things that are possibly a bad idea (To an extent, don't get too crazy). Be ok with losing ships as long as you know why you lost them. As stated fly what you like in a role you like, it's easier to learn in your comfort zone.
Just pay attention and try to remember what you did. The fights can be fast so it's tough to catch the details, as stated fraps can help with this. The 'shakes' will happen at first and probably the most important thing is to get enough pvp experience to get rid of those, slow things down and think clearly. |

Avoid nullsec until you learn to scan . There's more junk in nullsec these days than their is in highsec . Plus a rifter wouldnt last 5 mins as you've already learned . Nullsec was mostly where solo pvp originated in Eve , now solo pvp is mostly in FW due to the carebears in null whining so much about it being too hard . CCP decided to wrap them up warm in cotton wool and give them loads of extra toys to tuck them up in anomallies at night . I mean how dare null sec be hard !! Deffo join Faction Warfare , get into fleets , listen & learn . Ask for advice on ship fits and save them . Start cheap with your pvp ships . You may lose more than you kill to begin with , but stick at it :) |

The Tristan is probably one of the best solo frigs in the game at the moment. Your thrasher fit needs works, like the warp stab. I started up playing again a few days ago and it seems like there aren't really many solo players out in low anymore. Most of the stuff I encounter are cloaky frigate militia scrubs, small gangs, and god damned ventures. If you want some real PvP experience, go to hevrice and challenge a tusker to a 1v1. If you lose a fight feel free to ask them about their fits and what you can do to improve yours. http://spinthatdamnship.ytmnd.com/
