Edited by: Ghoest on 07/04/2006 23:46:15 After some recent experiences with a Ferox Im hard pressed to believe the Cerberus can run tough lvl 4s like I have heard people say.
Recently I tried to rune Vengence(Angel) in my Ferox. I cleared all the steps and all the ships except the last named ship which was a 2.6 mill BS.
I didnt even come close to breaking his tank.
My weapons were 5 T2 heavies - shooting T2 Fury missiles, and 2 named 250s with antimatter. I find it hard to believe that a Cerberus is going to do much more damage than that, am I wrong? Im pretty sure you couldnt reasonably use Furies in the Cerberus and have enought caps to tank orr keep distance. EDIT: I tried all 4 Fury damage types and used the one that did the most damage on the BS.
Thanks

Cerberus Bonus'
Caldari Cruiser Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Kinetic Missile damage and 10% bonus to Missile velocity per level
Heavy Assault Ship Skill Bonus: 10% bonus Light and Heavy Missile flight time and 5% bonus to Missile Launcher rate of fire per level
Ferox Bonus'
Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 10% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret optimal range and 5% bonus to all Shield resistances per level
99% reduction in the CPU need of Warfare Link modules.
As you can see, you get no missile bonus' with the Ferox -- but the Cerberus gets quite a bit. You'll get FAR more damage out of the Cerberus.nullnull

But I dont think the Cerb can tank or get away good enough using Furies can it?
I see that the Cerbs missiles should do ~2x the damage at HAC lvl4, but the Ferox also has 2 guns.
What I really looking for is someone who has actually killed big battleships with a Cerb so I know its possible before i go and buy one.

My Cerberus has a hard time breaking big NPC BS tanks.
I have HAC 5 and use Fury missiles with a ROF of around 4.7 seconds and STILL struggle to dent their tanks.
I can do it eventually, but it takes bloody ages.

Just how big are th guys you struggle with? If I can kill a 750k-1mil bounty in my Ferox with a 7.2-8sec ROF, surely a cerb with an extra % dmg per lvl, and 5ish sec ROF can take down slightly larger ships...
The uber faction/officer tankers will probably require a BS, or a hig-powered damage dealer like deimos, a blaster brutix maybe, altho I can't see a blaster brutix charging in at an officer spawn and killing it before getting blown away. That's just my view though.

As I said in my first post it was a 2.6 mill rat that I couldnt kill - he was the mission boss.
Other than him so far I have only fought BS's worth a mill or less - they die easy.

I do Angel Missions with me Cerb and I can tell ya that the Cerb can do every mission bar Vengence. Simply can't kill Horak Moon(2.6mil BS). I've tried Furies and full dmg still cant kill him,Had to get a corpmate in to help.
Otherwise it'll handle everything else if ya have a good setup.

My raven does just fine, and kills cruisers a lot better than an apoc.
The dommy, ehn...i just find drones too annoying in missions. Their behavior is so anachronistic and slow.

here we see a prime example of being totally, utterly, miserably wrong.
I'm flying a cerberus at the moment and my tank laughs at every mission but downing the slavers (and thats because i only have 1 t1 EM hardener fitted - i couldn't be bothered to go and get another). and by it doesn't laugh at that mission, i mean i have to be alt-tabbed in to control myself while running it.
Every other mission is a piece of **** to tank (a number of the big encounters need you to warp to 80km if you want to semi-AFK them, but thats not a big hinderance, is it?)
As for damage, a t2 fitted cerberus eats cruisers faster than an apoc could dream of, and has absolutely no issues with battleship tanks. Dominixes are fairly lame tanks, as these things go, and you would be better off with a raven on most missions. Also, missiles are more intelligent than drones
So next time you feel like posting information with no evidence, get your facts right first.

as long as you make sure your doing the correct damage, sure you only get the damage bonus on kinetic missiles but some of the rats (like xevni you were trying to shoot on that vengance mission) are very highly tanked vs kinetic damage and you will do more damage using thermal missiles than kinetic ones.
just so you can see:
Your Widowmaker Heavy Missile hits Xevni Jipon, doing 128.3 damage.
Your Scourge Heavy Missile hits Xevni Jipon, doing 64.8 damage.

a) dominixes don't have lame tanks Try domi with cap rechargers and t2 heavies and dual reps... it can sustain it even if you like. b) Ishtar will breeze through lvl4's while having the dmg output of a battleship due to drones... And that's just one of the hacs...

Cerb is fantastic in 95% of missions, the 5% case it can still do, it just gets speed bumps.
The ishtar is a power house in PVE it's a better tank than the domi (because of sig and hac resists) and has comparable dps, and other advantages (like drone range)
The raven is the most common choice of mission runners and it takes far, far less skill training to get into t2 missiles and t2 shields. It's also exceptionally efficient in missions. In fact you can have t2 cruise and several t2 shield trainings just in the SP it takes you to get to large blaster/large rail T2.

Comparing a ferox to a cerberus....
that was your first mistake. I have done nearly every level 4 mission in a cerb, and it's best weapon is range. doing full damage at 160km is fairly nice, and with a couple furies it breaks 400 DPS, which is enough to take down some of the hardest tanked npc battleships. the utter speed at which it pukes out missiles is enough to prevent defenders from being an issue at all. this ship easily benefitted the most from the stacking changes.

This is mine,Tis rather expensive but it can be done easily with just T2 everything:
Hi-Slots: 5xHeavy Missile Launcher II
Mid-Slots: 1x Gistii A-Type Small Shield Booster 1x Invulnerbility Field II 1x Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amp 1x Dread Guristas EM Shield Hardener 1x Large Shield Extender II
Low-Slot 1xPDU II 3x BCU II
Gets about 5000+ Shield with a 160+km Range(Lock range is only 100km with Long Range Targetting 5)
Shield Resists are: EM:66.7% Therm:86% Kin:79% Exp:72%
And the Gistii A type regenerates 86 Shield HP every 2.00 Seconds at 12.5 Cap a pop. Effectivly its infinitly Tanked. Also I have half a set of Lg-Crystals so it also gets a bump from that.It can't Tank huge numbers of cruisers or Frigates(There is a Minmatar mission involving Amarr frigates that fire em heavy missiles. There are like 10 of them. Not fun) for long however with cruisers you can usually wittle down a large number of them before they even start to do damage so just make sure you engage at long Range. _______________________________________________ An tT nach bhfuil lßidir nf folßir d= bheith glic -He who is not strong must be crafty |

More variations on the Cerb theme;
HIGH-SLOTS : 5 x Heavy Missile Launcher II 1 x Small Tractor Beam I
MED-SLOTS : 1 x Dread Guristas Magnetic Scattering Amplifier 2 x Invulnerability Field II 2 x Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
LOW-SLOTS : 3 x Ballistic Control System II 1 x True Sansha Power Diagnostic System
SHIELD STATS: Shield HP : 7062.563 (686.25sec) Max Shield Regen : 25.73 per sec (approx.)
Shield EM : 73.09 % Shield Explo : 79.3 % Shield Kinetic : 84.48 % Shield Thermal : 89.65 %
Powergrid : 720.25 / 853.281 MW CPU : 544.25 / 550.0 tf
Have to use the Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction extenders as the T2 Large extenders require too much CPU. Not a bad tank, good resists.
**Obviously the numbers are run with my skills applied.

I've been having a lot of luck w/ a Passive tank setup. I seldom drop below 75% shields.
Hi-Slots: 5x T2 Heavy Missile Launchers 1x Tractor Beam (I want to upgrade this to something else, but haven't done it yet)
Mid-Slots: 1x Domination 10MN AB 1x Dread Gurista Invulnerability Field 2x Large Shield Extender 1x Shield Recharger II
Low-Slots: 2x BCS II 1x PDU II 1x Internal Force Field Array I
Resists: 88.9375 % Thermal 83.40625 % Kinetic 77.875 % Explosive 44.6875 % EM
For Rogue Slave Trader I swap out the Invul Field for a T2 EM Hardener

With good skills you can run any level 4 gurista mission with a Cerberus, infact with the right setup and a little practice you can do them in your sleep.
All you need is a single 50% kinetic ward, that will bring your kinetic resist to about 85%, which is plenty. Don't worry about thermal, it's high enough at the 80% default.
Invest in a small gist a-type shield booster, this is pretty much all the tanking you need, it's safer to use an amplifier, and safest using 2 gist a-types at once, your cap should hold just fine as long as your skills don't blow.
You need to get your skills to at least 4, and on some of the bigger npc bships it will take time AND you will have to close in on them to kill them, the closer you are the higher your DPS against that target.
Don't bother with fury missiles on missions, waste of money.

you can run a med t2 booster forever with a large peroxide cap battery and a PDU II in low.

Edited by: Crellion on 10/04/2006 06:09:45 It also kills all 0.0 angel spawns no problems on pretty much any odd set up (incl a pvp set up with no expl hardener to make things more interesting \o/)
Edit: Kinetic missles do same dmg as explosive on the tank and are better all in all as they pop the BS structures much quicker.
