We've all seen them - people who ice mine in 0.9 space for hours, with nonsensical names, in newbie corps, who are seemingly oblivious to anything happening around them. They warp to the exact same space even if you clutter it with cans so they take 20 minutes to get into mining position. I speak of course of macro miners.
Now, the problem is, if you attack them, Concord will get mad. And if Concord gets mad, ships go boom, usually your ships. Which sucks.
But there are other fun things to do. The can thing is just one possibility. Another one would be the old "conservation of momentum" equation: Battleship + nanofiber internals + MWD = very fast, very massive ship. Setting course for a barge and putting the pedal to the metal results in the barge being bumped out about 30-70km, depending on how fast you are. The barge is suddenly out of range of any roids, but its hold is not full. If you do this a couple of times the barge has to creep back to the field on its insanely slow drives, if the script is smart enough to do that at all.
Now those two ideas are hardly creative (albeit admittedly fun). What I'd like to know is a) does this fall under griefing and b) if no, what other creative ways are there to have fun with those brainless scripts?

There are no scripts that detect distance from asteroid or something like that, but in most cases the barges are set to approach a can or an asteroid and will automagically fly back to it if bumped.
Give it a go, griefing petitions have to be filed in English anyway.

I must admit I can't tell the difference between a miner who loves 'roids and a macrominer - but when liberating ore from jetcans so I can release it once more into the wild I have discovered some people don't react at all and continue regardless. I quite like these guys, even if they do make ore theft as dull as mining itself - which is pretty damn dull indeed.
I did read a thread about some guy who got bellowed right out by a guy in an iteron V when he tried to defend his departing ore. That was pretty funny.

If you are consistently bumping one guy then I would say it probably is griefing but just read up on the rules.
I rather think clogging up a specific area (even in an ice belt) with cans just to prevent access could be an exploit though, so a petition to get them moved would succeed. That tactic is certainly regarded as an exploit is some other situations.
There is something in the EULA about discussing griefing in forums isnt there? Its so long since I read it up.
But like the other guy said, give it a go.

Personally, I say you should let ice miners work in peace. They can fill their cans faster that way.
Then you can lift their cans when they ignore your friendly attempts at conversation. Serves them right for being rude. ---

another fun game is to lock onto the cans with a tractor beam, and just pull them out of range of the barges. This then forces the barges to move to the can. Was sugested this by a friend so don't know the exact ins and outs, but sounds fun to me.

Sadly this only works with your cans (or maybe your gang's too?)

I've heard, cycling thier cans into a new can of yours with the same name as the old one is pretty good. Then you sit back and wait for the hauler and when he picks up the loot, you gank :)

Edited by: moemoemoe on 11/04/2006 16:48:20 In this case there were no cans, two barges who would fill up on ice and warp away to drop it off at the station. No ore thieving possible.
Yes I am aware of the no griefing rule, which is why I asked to check whether this falls under griefing first. :)

I blame CCP :p I tried to use "moe", but apparently that username is too short. So, being the hunk of creativity that I am, I came up with this extremely creative name. PS: creative.
