Originally by: Scorpyn Just out of curiosity, have you made a final decision as to whether you will allow selling and buying ingame items for rl money on the chinese server? (I hope I can ask this without starting a flamefest )
I do not blieve we have any plans to allow RMT on Serenity.

It's great to see EvE expanding across the globe.
But one things realy scares me. Our patches as of now are slow, at best. Now that two clusters of EvE will be running, will it get even slower?
I do not ask this in bad way at all. It just realy worries me.

Edited by: Fedaykin Naib on 13/04/2006 01:51:40 TomB,
To the respectable TomB, I see it that in your first action as the new Lead Game Designer that the last of the damage dealing modules in Eve-Online should be given its own specialization. As I know I dont have to tell you, turrents, missiles, and DRONES for all sakes have specialization, but the lowly smartbomb has been left out. Thus, I must plead to you to make that powerful hero of yore you name yourself after, Tom Bombadil, see that his present day disciple is just as powerful and give smartbombs life!
Sincerely,

It's good to see an official thread about this at last, although seeing Kjartan leave for China is a bit of a surprise... that's not something I thought I'd be reading a few years ago when EVE was in alpha, let alone six months ago in his E-ON bio
I am curious about one thing though: what kind of message did the President of Iceland give at the "unveiling" event in China? I'm given to understand that he sent some kind of recorded message.
Anyway, hurray for the expansion of EVE into new territories. What's next, EVE Korea? ---
What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

Will be really interesting to see how Serenity develops and if the playstyle and politics end up radically different to TQ.

Agreed.
Serenity sounds like a true alternate dimension in regard to Tranquility. As long as both are totally closed off from one another. Maybe the Eve gate will open one day and Serenity will be on the other side.

i hope that one day there will be an wormhole that will allow players from both servers (the test cluster would work)to take part in contests/tournaments. It could be setup like the game us army so serenity players sees TQ players as jovians and vice versa.

There are political reasons that I can't discuss that will prevent chinese players from being allowed to interact freely with westerners. Though it would probably be fun.
Why do you think that china will only allow a local company to host the servers? The internet acess in china is very closely monitered and highly restricted.

I know thats why i said "I hope". I¦m not talking about a way for TQ corps to jump in 2000 angry nubs screaming I OWN THIS SPACE ON TQ . The reason i suggested the test server was so it could be setup a way that the chines goverment would allow for a specific tournament.

Would it be possible to buy and sell on a common market? I realise that the laws may not allow this but it would be a convient way to infuse isk into the serentity market and much needed minerals into the eve market. As well as allow serenity to access t-2 and faction items from the start should they train accordingly. |

its going to be intresting to see how many concurrent users the chinese server can cope with. does anyone know how much bigger the china cluster is going to be compared to the one we have in london?

I am sadden by your lack of response TomB, and now I find it difficult trying to reference you by that name. I find it now that I must ask for a new name to call this new Lead Game Designer as a Tom Bombadil is no longer acceptable for you.

No it's not, China operates on different legal standings in respect to games like this. It's still only one world, can't blame CCP for China's legal status.
Will we be able to get accounts on Serenity?

if we could log on to the chinese server, wil our character be on that server.
if so how do you plan to intend to keep both comunites apart instead of 1 war being thought on 2 servers?
plus will you be realesing tech 2 slowly on the market as you did with tq.

that would be REALLY cool

I also would like to follow the chineese server progress, the chineese to english translators are rather sub par though.
Would it be possible to have 1 test server for both live servers? So we could have a mix of chineese and western players? Or will you plan on having 2 sepertate servers for testing? signature removed - please email us if you want to know why - Oldmailman([email protected]) |

I am happy for CCP for taking the best solution of creating a secondary shard in China. Its sad but true that western players and chinese players do not see eye to eye in mmorpg's and usually causes for too much trouble.

That has nothing to do with why they have to do a separate shard in China. The government requires all Internet activities to be fil*tered. CCP has a choice, to do business inside China with government oversight, or have their servers blocked to billions of Chinese people. CCP made the right choice because it's not their place to bring about political reform in China.
It's a business decision. Westerners get along just fine with Chinese people. It's the P*arty that we have problems with, yet must deal with. So don't say that this has something to do with 'us' not getting along with 'Chinese'. That's just bunk.

Originally by: kieron For the last time, please leave the political discussion off of the EVE forums. If you feel the need to inflict your political viewpoints on others, do so on one of the many other forums out there. This is a forum for the discussion of EVE Online, not the Chinese Government, communism, capitalism, etc.
I know you don't want to bring politics into this, but given the current issues of Yahoo helping the Chinese government track down and jail reporters, on what level will Eve be monitored for ideological purity? Given the great firewall of china becoming more and more restrictive to traditional internet communication means, online games could certainly be one method to circumvent the chinese restrictions on speech and association.
For instance, reporters or Falun Gon or some other group could form a corp in Eve and use it to organize and stay in communication. Will Evemail be monitored for subversive activity?

Honestly I didn't read all the posts as their are 3 pages of them and I don't need a response back to this question it's more just something to think about. Instead of breaking up the universe into two different universes can't their be away to translate enlish to chinese? Maybe put a simple marker on each persona as to what lanugage they speak so that if they are talking to someone who speaks a different language it would auto translate. There are tools that can translate one language into another I'm sure that it would be possible to incorrperate that into the EVE universe. The only reason I say this is because I would love to see even more people all carmed on to one server. It would make the game even more fun! Just a thought. In either case I'm sure the EVE community will support you.

Will there be a payment method for "Western" Players to get an account on the Chinese shard? Can you even connect from outside China? I would love to follow this "hands on" as a new EVE-universe rises from scratch.

Originally by: Sarai Atvar I am saddened to mourn the passing of the idea of one, unsharded global universe, however. Though it's for the best, it was a bold idea that I'm sorry to see go.
This is not the case. This is not one unsharded universe becoming one universe with two shards, this is a second seperate unsharded universe. Serenity is a second Eve, not an extension of the current one.
This also means the two servers should not be able to interact with each other at any point. It would make no sense for two identical universes to be interacting with each other.
Edit: Forgot, find people who can translate the goings on on the other server! Seeing Eve start from scratch all over again is too great an opportunity to miss! ---------- Go here: http://www.student.ru.nl/martindevillers/tk8_outgame.html |

In a gameplay sense congrats CCP - is the SISI usage for unicorn finsihed cant wait to get the test server back for kali - will all IPs within mainland china now be blocked off just to serentiy will this remove the thousands of macroers that oringinate from mainland china (they come from other places i believe) but a large bulk are sweatshops on the mainland.
Will this help resolve the macroer issues within TQ or will they be allowed to continue for business reasons ?
