The game really needs an entire manual piloting interface, not just for Orbiting. This Active Orbit thing would be little more then a convenience, since manual orbiting is required in pvp (unless you like losing your tackle).
The system used by Homeworld (anyone here remember that?) would be ideal - like issuing commands to your ship to move in a certain path. There's no danger of it becoming flightsim like with this method. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |

Good idea will make the game more sleek to have a orbit ring or "path projection"

Get RID of the Orbit Key! There is absolutely nothing in the game that needs to be orbited.
Mining- No passive AFK
PVP - No because if you hit the orbit key you might as well be dead to any intelligent player, or they will get away just as easy.
PVE- make the PVE'ers learn to click in space so when they move to pvp they will not orbit their enemy
Other- Gate orbit maybe nice maybe but defiantly not the reason to keep the orbit key |

CCP pls I oppose this, just because of this post.
Not really, This would be great, but at the very least CCP needs to remove the direction change when prop mods (de)activate. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong. |

Love the idea, if I may add on to it. It would be nice to have a +1/-1km orbit distance keys. -á --á |

Rykoszet wrote:Hello, In my opinion orbiting an object shouldn't be a "stroke of fate". I think "active orbit" feature will be a good idea: 1. Player choses an object to orbit around 2. There appeares a ring around chosen object (something like tactical overlay) 3. You can move the ring 360 degree It's about chosing the orbiting direction. It seems pretty reasonable feature, worth to consider. I hope you guys like my idea

Fantastic idea. I've thought of something similar to this before. To add, it would be great if there were indicators for ship trajectory when zoomed out with tactical view enabled. A simple arrow denoting where the bow of a ship is facing would be great. |

You often are dead if you overheat your prop mod during orbit cause your ship stops with full damage application ... But this could be an intended weakness... I'm my own NPC alt. |

Adds a bit more control and takes nothing from active orbiting in serious situations, its still valid. May also work in conjunction with this suggestion. I see it as a tactical only option, like the other. Are you sure your issues aren't elsewhere ?! |

Visually it could work similarly to setting out a probe, adjust the bubble surrounding your selected item, then drag a ring on the surface to set up the direction you want to orbit.
Prop mods should have no effect on direction. period. |

PVP - No because if you hit the orbit key you might as well be dead to any intelligent player, or they will get away just as easy. Yes for kiting ships, no for brawling ships. You're just wrong. Orbit is valuable even now. Zappity's Adventures for a taste of lowsec. |

I really like the idea of a ring, however - we could do with some usability improvements to the interface, as long as they don't take away from mechanical gameplay. An orbit ring to give you an indicator of where you should be flying. Perhaps even two - one for the current position of your target, and one for the predicted position of your target based on its speed and heading.
Just don't have it actually orbit for you. I don't like it when the game plays itself. Do YOU like to undock? |

I don't like it when the game plays itself. Well let's think about that. You are trying to maintain a tight orbit at 500 in an ab frigate. You are moving at 1000m/s on a server with 1hz ticks. How closely do you think you will be able to manually orbit?
Yes, manual piloting is important and sometimes gives you an edge in PvP. But not all the time. Zappity's Adventures for a taste of lowsec. |
