I've really wanted to get into AFs, Interceptors and Cov Ops. All I need is Frig lvl 5 and I am at 4 now. It's gonna take me near 2 weeks to get Frig 5. So what I am wondering since there are a boat load of valuable skills i can learn in those 2 weeks instead if I should just stick with a BC for awhile or move to a BS or if I should just dedicate muyself towards the ships I wanna fly? I got my 4 basic learning skills to either 3 or 4 and Learning to level 3. Two weeks is a long time to train just to hop into a Cheetah or a Stilleto. I believe I can get inot a BS before that. Perhaps if I set myself up to train a day into Frig 5 every other day....
Any advice?

Go for frig level 5, T2 frigs are ten times more fun than flying a battleship. --------------

I would train up other skills first. You will not have the skills necessary to fly any of the T2 ships, and you can use them with the T1 ships too.

I figured out that there are side skills that can be trained to give you that extra 5% in somethin in 20min to a couple of hours so I've done my training strategically and have a lot of good skills trained. I know a lot of power can be gained training other skills over a 2 week period but i really wanna fly the ships Frig 5 gives me. Bloody hell, wish it was only 3-4 days.

Train your learning skills up. It shouldn't take 20 days (only around 10 or so).
I'd build up to get some T2 items first (such ad repairers, resistances, etc). Guns would be nice too.
Skills first cause You can easily blow up the ship if you can't fly it well.

Thanks. i figure I do a few hours of it every day and work on my other skills meantime. Hopefully I'll be in a AF by summer.

It also depends on what Advanced Frigate your gonna fly. If you're doing Covert Ops, have you got your Engineering and Electonics upgrades skills up to 5?
One of the Caldari Covert Ops ships allow you to use Cruise Missiles.
I'd train up the skills that you can simultaneously use on a BC or BS. Once I have all the skill to make effective use of the Advanced Frigate, then I would finally train to Frigate 5.
The last thing you want is to have Frigate 5, but not be able to use it because you're still flying a BC or BS to get those other skills to fully take advantage of the Frigate's new capabilities.

That's the state against your suggestion.
Since ships can be insuranced while items won't. And what more ship price is slowly dropping while items are not.
So as a noob if we "tend" to die very offten, go for nice ship earlier won't be that bad??

3 classes of ships I believe I can't fly all cause of Frig 5 more or less. Some of these ships are even cheaper than cruisers. I guess the big training hill for all players is level 5 anything.

I'd say that AF's require decent fitting/cap skills even more so than battleships. I trained up for AF's before I really had the skills to fit one properly and it was terrible. I wasn't really happy untill I had Engineering 5, Electronics 5, Weapon Upgrades 5 and Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4. I hope that doesn't sound elitist but that's just the way it was for me.
You didn't specify what you wanted the ship for; missions or PVP or whatever. It's certainly easier to specialize in the smaller ships earlier on. It just means you don't have to worry about big guns and stuff, but fitting, cap, tanking, weapon support skills are just as important in this class as any other so don't neglect them thinking that having the skills to sit in the pilots' chair means you can fly the ship well.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and yes, small ships are definitely fun but battleships are useful for making money with (even with mediocre skills.)

Here is the way I would answer this question:
Are you able to do the missions/pvp/trading/mining or whatever you want to do for the next 2 weeks comfortably? Can you enjoy the game as it is right now for 2 weeks while waiting?
If the answer to that is yes. go for the frigs V and then start playing with new ship.
I am at the point that I can do L3s comfortably (some risk but not suicidal) and 3/10 and 4/10 complexes...and dont make a total fool of myself in mining op days.
So now im training for that Command ship I have always wanted. It will take me around 2 months...but I am happy with my ships with the way they are right now...and my skills are 'good' enough to hold me until i get them.
my advice therefore if you dont mind where your at right now for a the time it takes to do the training. Go for it.
(Although getting advanced learnings to IVs should be ap riority if your gonna play for a while).

a rank2 skill to lvl5 in spaceship command takes me 9 days plus change, and I started with a base 5 in perception. learning skills are your friends.

By Electronics, you mean Mechanic right? Which doesn't help with fitting anything.

Except that insurance on T2 ships is useless. You get a couple mill, maybe 3, with 100% insurance. This is on a ship that will cost you 10-30, depending on which one. And if you're likely to lose that ship it's not worth it to take such a risk if you're a new player without the capital to absorb the loss.

It does help. Large Armor Repairer II uses it, and it's a must if you want to go Tech II some day :)

my advice is to go for an Assault Frigate. They're great for lvl 1-3 missions and 1-3 complexes. can even do a lvl 4 complex with it, and they're fun for low-sec ratting aswell.
