What kind of dps can i expect from one of them?
What are the rules of engagement? Will they fire on any ship that engages another ship within their range? Is the rules near stations and gates exacly the same?

Sentry guns will fire upon you if you are flagged, ie. you have agressed someone within 20 minutes or so (unless they are outlaws).

hey guys i know this is a bit nubbis to ask but i have one thing to ask do amarr sentry guns do only em and thermal or gallente do kinetic and thermal or what?

According to the item databases I've looked at, all race's sentries do 16 EM + Explosive, 28 Kinetic + Thermal damage (base values, obviously).

So 16+16+28+28 damage = 88 damage / 2 secs == 44 dps for one gun? Doesnt seem enough, so i assume im missing something.

they hit for anything between 150d a shot to something like 350d a shot. Poor lil ceptor took a beating that day. At least that is for in lowsec --- Murder Murder, yes indeed, K-I-L-L-I-N-G

At one point there was no sentrys in low sec, the miners whined. and now people complain about the wimps who have been forced to snipe

I think gate guns are a good idea despite the fact I Stuffed up a couple days ago while gate camping and nearly died due to getting hung up on the gate. .
prevents people gatecamping without a bit of preperation and a few skills

All I know to answer the orignal question: Sentries do 50-150dmg to a 60% resisted ship. Easily tankable in a BS in .4 space, but don't try it in .5 or above or you'll get concordOWNED!

It used to be like that, but they changed it after our Mara camp :( I guess it was either that, or GMs chasing you around instagibbing you with essentially invulnerable BS.

i use a caracal from time to time that can tank 16 volleys from 2 caldari sent guns in 0.4, (with out fire from other ships) its set up secret :P And grouping up you mentioned :) ...... Ppl do it all day every day (mostly) Pirat Coalition had 16 battleships camping 1 gate today, the sent guns started cycling and did next to nothing when it came to making ppl go pop or leave the gate.
Hope that leaves you stupified and confused.

Posting the EXACT SAME IDEA in another forum because nobody agreed with you in GD is just annoying.
And there's nothing wrong with sentries in .4-.1. It's supposed to be a transition area from highsec to nosec, you can solo tank sentries easily, or really easily if your in a group. They aren't a problem... stop whining about it.

Within a week or so you'll begin to get it, within 3 weeks you'll be living out here with the rest of us.
I posted the general idea in this forum first. After a couple of minutes I thought it would be nice to see what peoples opinion of it was in General Discussion. So i started a new thread there. Obviously the idea wasnt very popular, and thats fine. I throw ideas around to see what people think, and now i know.
I still want the sentries removed in 0.1 to 0.4, but i now realize the majority doesnt. Just dont complain about blobbing in empire space. Its practicly required because of the sentries.

Sorry to disappoint you, but what you say is not news to me or particulary complicated to understand, so im not very confused at all. You'll have to try harder for that.
16 battleships. So hmm, someone warps to the gate, you all click your buttons and the ship go pop in a few seconds. Sounds pretty damn boring to me, but we are all different.

0.0 is MUCH safer then empire low sec, you can't even compare the two. Low sec empire is where all the scrub.. er talented pvp'rs practice their craft on the sub mill sp or the mineral running industrials.
I've been in non-claimed 0.0 for almost 3 months and never lost an indy yet, try saying that around the gank fests called empire low sec. |
