PART I
Space Above Kihtaled IV Nohshayess Constellation - Khanid
Ibrahim had just exited the Xiadii Charity Ball on Lord DraconisGÇÖ Kihtaled estate in a less than dignified manner. It took all of his willpower to muster the ability to walk and not stumble his way to a shuttle. He gave instructions to the pilot to go to a CONCORD station in orbit around the systemGÇÖs eighth planet. There was no way he was going to make it back to Amarr in this condition; he would have to rent quarters in this system for the night. His fingers failed to operate a holopad with any level of precision. It took several minutes before he had confirmed his booking. He swore under his breath. It was that damn glass that slipped out of his hands, that is when he knew he had to get out of there and fast. He apologized to Lord Draconis, lying and saying that his stomach had suddenly begun to trouble him. He hated to lie but he was not going to be seen by all those people. Not like that.
THE DAY BEFORE Medical Deck Imperial Station in Amarr Throne Worlds - Domain
GÇ£I have your test results. Your prothrombin and partial thromboplastin times are slow, we detected some vasodilation and arterial resistance which is-"
GÇ£How many times have we done this doctor? If you could skip to the end I would be highly appreciative.GÇ¥
GÇ£Yes your lordship.GÇ¥ He put his readout down. GÇ£ItGÇÖs getting to be time again. If you plan on staying in this clone for much longer weGÇÖre going to have to replace it.GÇ¥
GÇ£Alright, schedule an operation. Ahmad will give you suitable dates.GÇ¥
GÇ£Lord Ibrahim, I donGÇÖt want to soundGǪitGÇÖs just, how many times is this now? This will be your sixth operation. This just isnGÇÖt sustainable.GÇ¥
GÇ£I donGÇÖt know exactly what tone you wanted to avoid but I have a suspicion that itGÇÖs this one. Do not lecture a lord.GÇ¥
GÇ£YouGÇÖre also my patient. We can switch out organs and reclone you repeatedly. But there are psychological issues. Dependency-GÇ£
GÇ£I think that is sufficient. If I wanted non-medical device I probably wouldnGÇÖt be in this office. Schedule it.GÇ¥
GÇ£Yes sir. Sorry sir.GÇ¥ Ibrahim left the room to change out of his gown and return to his quarters.
Ibrahim's Quarters
Once back he interfaced with his NEOCOM and began to flip through market information. After a few minutes he disconnected. Placing the holopad on the table he noticed the familiar trembling in his hands. His fingers did not want to remain still and they were difficult to manipulate. He had not had a drink since the previous night.
Walking over to his bar he poured a double shot of an amber fluid. Rum. His favorite. Keeping the drink steady as he lifted it to his lips was tricky to do while keeping it still. The first glass was always the hardest. He successfully and downed the drink, quickly pouring and downing a second. He poured and third and carried it and the bottle back to the couch, the comforting warmth spreading from his stomach outwards across his body. He began to watch something on the holoscreen, not caring very much what it was. He propped his feet up and smiled, taking another sip. "I give you the destiny of Faith, and you will bring its message to every planet of every star in the heavens: Go forth, conquer in my Name, and reclaim that which I have given."-á- Book of Reclaiming 22:13 |

PART II 14 HOURS LATER
The first thing he noticed was a throbbing in his head. This pain was being made worse in its intensity by a beeping. He was not instantly sure of where he was or what the noise was. Squeezing his eyes more tightly shut, as if that would block out the noise, he tried to resume sleeping. The noise persisted. He opened his eyes. The room was dark, the holoscreen having dimmed. He was still in his suit, lying on the couch. The glass and two empty bottles sat on the table and floor respectively. Obviously within armGÇÖs reach. His holopad was emitting an alert indicating an impending appointment. He reached to cancel it when he realized it was the charity auction.
He shot straight up, stumbling to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror. The reflection did not fill him with confidence. He threw water on his face and then leaned down to the faucet gulping the water out. He was so thirsty. His head panged on. He usually slept through most of this; he had not experienced a severe hangover in months. Seconds later, a terrible feeling in his stomach indicated that drinking so much water had been unwise. He began to vomit it back into the sink along with whatever else had been in his stomach. Had he eaten last night? He could not remember.
The nausea subsided but he was beginning to realize he was still drunk. Even if he could clean up in time he was bound to smell like a distillery. Going anywhere in this condition was out of the question. But he had to attend. Lord Draconis was a friend, he had promised, questions would be asked about his absence. It would look very bad. He stumbled across his quarters, gingerly holding his head and stomach. There was only one thing to do.
Twenty minutes later he had managed to install himself into his capsule and engaged the transneural burning scanner and lethal injection system. Seconds later he was hundreds of meters from where he started on a whole different level of the station. Technicians began to rinse the new body of its clone fluids. He was handed a robe. GÇ£Your Lordship, we have arranged transportation back to your quarters.GÇ¥
GÇ£Good. Inform my private secretary to prepare my ship.GÇ¥
GÇ£Yes sir.GÇ¥
GÇ£And tell him to cancel my surgical appointment.GÇ¥
PRESENT CONCORD Assembly Bureau GÇô Kihtaled VIII Nohshayess Constellation GÇô Khanid
Everything had been going fine. He did not drink when he arrived at the Golden Lounge and once on the surface and in the ballroom he ordered nothing but water. A first water, a second water, and a third water. But then a glass of rum. Just one could do no harm. Nor could the second. But he kept drinking them. He decided to slow down when he realized he had become unsteady. The new clone could not process alcohol as well. He switched to wine. That is when he dropped his glass. He played it off as if it had simply been wet and slipped from his grasp. A woman, Nicoletta Mithra, who he had been talking to showed concern as did someone else he had met, a man called Eran Mintor, whose glance from across the table told Ibrahim he had to get out of there and fast. He excused himself to the rest room, splashed some water on his face, trying to sober up enough to get off the planet. He went to the host, apologized, and just barely made it out in time. Now he was sitting in the suite he rented. He had to be more careful. He opened a bottle.

Heh. Samira thought he was drinking a bit much, but refrained from commenting. And politely pretended not to notice his dropping the glass. Must maintain proper respect for Holders, even if they aren't being dignified themselves! <.<
Interested in reading the rest. :) |
