Edited by: newfacex on 17/04/2006 23:50:39 Ok, so i have been chatting to various friends ingame.
We have been discussing profits.
2 of them have 30+mil SP and primarily combat related
2 of them have 20+mil SP primarily Mining/refining
Now, the miners go on about yield and refining and blah and making 40mil an hour or 25mil an hour... *YAWN*
The combat pilots talk about poor profits from Missions, NPC ratting and PVP/Pirating.
So, my question is, why is there the seemingly MASSIVE gap between combat and indy/mining pilots abilities to make ISK?
To myself and others it seems Miners/Indys have it easy with lower SP they can make a LOT more isk/hour
Are we just stupid ? Some explanations and corrections welcome!

Where are the miners doing their mining? 0.0? For those sort of profit margins, I'm guessing crokite or something.
Well, who protects them from random gankers in 0.0? Oh yeah, the PvP guys. ________________________________________________

Dunno about you buy I just made almost 10 mill from a single low quality lvl 4 mission. most of that was from the bounties in the mission, buy hey...And I dont' have 2 mill SP yet.
one major factor in missions is your skills that pertain to mission rewards. A lot of people seem to ignore these. Get those social skills up and you can make good money.

Miners can in general make isk more easily and with fewer skillpoints. However, they're a lot easier to kill...

What sec was the system the agent was in?
10mil isk from the bounties alone?
What ship were you flying and how long did it take you to complete the mission?
Which skills? The connections skills?

Miners in 0.0 may make 30 million an hour...
But they have a hauler also. That means 15 million an hour per character, which is a lot more in line with mission-running.

In terms of pure profit, the smart miner that watches local, aligns, has safespots and appropriate cover against rats (and therefore doesn't lose their ship) can make about 30-40m/hr like DS said in 0.0 mining the high end ores. They do outweigh profits that come from anything involved with fighting, and have the added bonus to being steady sources of income whereas level 4s or ratting are much more dangerous and anything from lag to an unfriendly local can kill your nightly profits in a fell swoop.
However, and this is a big however - pirates, agent runners, and ratters get something y'all don't, unexpected finds. Whether its a T2 pirate implant, an officer spawn worth 20m+, or T2 BPOs some idiot was carrying in a shuttle, we have the chance for a lucky break unlike mining.
Over time though, its inevitable that both are about the same - miners eventually screw up and have to buy expensive new barges/BSs to mine in, and killers like me get either blobbed or bite off more than we can chew - we at least get to go kill things however .
Go us.

Mining at all levels is a constant stream of income. Your mining lasers mine x amount per cycle augmented by y amount from drones and you can refine x+y into z given your refinery skills resulting in n amount of profit.
NPCing and PvP piracy is a far more unpredictable stream of income. I don't pirate so I can't comment on that but I've had days where I've gone out ratting all day and come back to my home station 5mill up, and days when I've gone out ratting for an hour and come back 20mill up, with another 20mill in lewt. Plus there's always the chance of a mission agent giving you that one elusive offer that will make you mega-rich, CN Raven for example.
It's up to you - personally I like the freedom to be able to pop out, mine a hauler-load of arkonor and come home with 30mills worth of minerals, but I prefer to NPC for my money or even better, trade for it and not have to waste valuable pvp-time getting it.

I run 6 accounts currently for my 0.0 mining.
1 tank. 4 large barges. 1 hauler.
I make roughly 30-40 mill an hour Per barge..
So in full swing im pulling in 160 mill an hour.
160 divided by 6 = 26.6million an hour per character roughly.
All in all I find It alot easier then doing Missions and Any other aspect of the game to bring in the iskies.
granted ive only maxxed out my level 3 agent.. and using 1 character I dont really recall how much i was making an hour.. but i know i didnt like the repetativeness of Undocking.. warping somewhere... killing something.. going back rince repeat..
id much rather watch 6 accounts and move ore ever 3 min in a small repetitive pattern..
