I have some Anti Scamming rules that people should follow to Not get scammed.
1. Dont even touch eve if you are under the influence of anything that can impair your judgement. Trust me on this, I have claimed enough 0.00 isk escrow to know it screws people up.
2. If its too good to be real there is a 99% chance its not real and a scam. Dont bother with it and move along.
3. When buying a Escrow Inspect it completely. Even if it sounds the same it could be a few letters off or missing a important word, For example... Foxfire Rage rocket bpo / Foxfire Rocket BPO.
4. In a direct trade, Always inspect item before trading, and if osmeone needs to put it back on as they claim, inspect it again. It is possible and allowed for people to rename ships.
5. Just because someone links a item or ship in chat Does Not always mean they really have it.
6. If someone convos you offering you a amazingly deal, Its a Scam.
7. a. Most scammers create noob alts and then delete them every 10 hours and create new ones so noone will no who they are and some main proabably collects al the isk.
This means that you should inspect someones info, if they are less than 10 days old and offering you a deal on something that costs a fortune its a Scam.
8. Scamming is Not against the rules of CCP, so dont think I dont care if I get scammed CCP wil fix it. Its up to you to decide if you are going to get scammed or not and if you do remember CCP will Not help you.
I ask if this can be Stickied Please.

Sticky? LOL! This is just one person one-sided opinion on game mechanics, and hardly qualifies as a "guide" imo. |

Um, it offers a pointer or two but is hardly wholly accurate or comprehensive.

The only real "rule" to follow to avoid being scamemd is: Think, before you do anything.
Far too many people allow themselves to be scammed because they are just too lazy to exercise any form of common sense or intelligence. --------------------------------------------- Engineers motto; If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. |

I think you should stfu with your idiotic opinions about other people and why they get scammed. It isn't always due to lack of common sense or intelligence. I'm sure I could show you NO CORRELATION whatsoever with intelligence, common sense and being a victim. Most people are scammed as a result of a lack of understanding. This lack of understanding is entirely down to the complexity and stupidity inherent in the UI, not because of that inherent in the user. A good UI should allow people to make choices, some of which may be "wrong", but try and prevent people from making mistakes, ie. doing something that they did not intend.

I appreciate your effort Ni'Ka.
Really it mystifies me that we have such a mess of an escrow system in EVE and it further mystifies me that CCP consents to allowing players to rip off others in escrow scams.
Isn't the whole idea of escrow is that a third party manages the seller's product(s) and the buyer's payment protecting both the buyer and the seller?
Seriously, a scammer should get a sec hit, at the very least.

Meh. You only need one rule to prevent yourself falling for a scam. It works just as well in real life as it does in Eve:
If it seems too good to be true it probably is.
So many people could have saved themselves a whole heap of bother if they realised that no one sells anything out of the goodness of their own hearts. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Ni'ka, WELCOME to the EVE Forums (no doubt you been here before), but at the EVE forums its full of childish know it all's, who dont understand that even a simple guide like this, is a great help to a new player of EVE, they just set about thier normal days wondering whos post thier gonna flame next. I might be givin some stick here an now, but i hnoticed l8ly just as your noticing now, a good part of this community isn't mature, an then for the rest of the community the mature side, there the people that post respectfully and praise your efforts, no need to stay away lol, life goes on, just look at the childish remarks an laugh, its exactly what im gonna do when i get a ****ed of youngster wanting to try an sort my head out for what i jsut said, but end of the day ;), your the one tryin to make a difference

Sorry I know you ment well, but its time to be honest here about what Eve is about,
Its PvP, with a ethical ruleset that would make a Feringi look honest in comparison.

Just carry on moving along and let those of us who have the inclination get the 1% that are not scams and make billions of isk from it.

The Federation inhabits the same universe as the Ferengi and they're much more open traders. The Klingons are an incredibly honourable race.
The Federation and the Klingons didn't petition the Q in order to stop the Ferengi scamming (not that they would have listened anyway). Somehow they survived...
That said, anything that teaches people how to protect themselves can never be a bad thing.
Now I'm going outside to beat someone up. Balance must be restored.

Thanks Ni'ka, nice short and sweet guide, ideal for new players. All points are 100% accurate as written. For an idiot to contest any statement you made, he would have to twist it first.
As for the morons that can't read, ignore tham or flame them as you prefer.

That made more sense than anything else I have read on the forums in over a week.
Nice tips BTW, probally not sticky worthy, but good to know. To bad all the flamers who scam everyone come out when someone trys to coutner them.
Quick, Someone put up an "How to gank a pirate" guide so we can weed out some pirates :)

A good post definatly, and Dont worry about the Flamers, cause they provide you with the "not-so-official" sticky by keeping it up on top with thier endless rants. Keep on keeping on. That saves you from stupid scammers, but not from more intelligent ones who will not set up escrows that seem too good to be true, but instead will use normal prices for the item in the description.
Good luck, you'll need it.
