Don't a lot of amarr ships look like cylon ships from battlestar galactica? they have that slit across the front just like the eye/scanner on cylon raiders.
Some ships for example. Zealot - Must be a cylon ship, perfect example Linkage Geddon - also looks cylonish Linkage
There are others but i am too tired to think of em. --- Wolven Elite Guard - Currently recruiting |

It does look like the cylon ships. Except that the Amarr ships have more gold than the cylons. The cylons have a darker feel to them.

That's where the resemblance ends, tbh.
And it's only a couple of ships at any rate. Not to mention that the scale of the 'slit' is a bit different (the Armageddon is the size of a small town, for example). ------------------------------------------- "Never underestimate the power of language."

The OP is refering to the NEW series of battlestar galactica not the old one remember he says ships with slide down front pannel. old seriesd ships are grey disks with a 3 pilot cylon crew i think [or was it 2].

Quite right really its a bit like saying the new cylon raiders look like planes because they both have wings.
Saying htat tho i think the NEW cylon raiders look a lot cooler than the old ones.

Yeah that's correct :) that 'BIDDIBIDDIBIDDIBIDDI' isn't from BSG the old series but from Buck Rogers. The little robot made that sound.

Edited by: Matthias DuBastyra on 21/04/2006 13:38:34 Personally, I think the Daredevil is a much closer match to the new cylon raiders. I do like the arc of the arms of both ships. I just wish the Daredevil had more of a punch for PVP. PVE, however, those little buggers don't stand a snowball's chance in hell! I like a good dogfight so I outfit my bad boy with two blaster II's, a rocket launcher--yeah, that's a right! I use'm for the high rate of fire, and a named Nos. Set my orbit at 1Km and utter things like: "By your command!" "WWWWoooooooh,WWWWWooooooh" <--the old cylon sound of the scanning eye. and of course, just before the NPC blows up, I say, "Does anyone have any milk? Because this is CAKE!"

Well i dont think he had to specify considering.
A. the new series is out
B. the OP said "Don't a lot of amarr ships look like cylon ships from battlestar galactica? they have that slit across the front just like the eye/scanner on cylon raiders."
So anyone will clearly see that the OP was on about the new series, now in the old series the cylon raider is a 3 man ship and disk like in shape.
Now considering how obvious the OP was about which series he was on about i see no rason for him or anyone else to specify which version of battlestar galactica he was on about.

The problem is that it should be clear. The ne cylon fighters have this relly cool Knight Rider red light beam thing going on there. No pilot visible, as there is none, the new cylon ships are alive and kicking, all guts and brains. Bit like Omen and Geddon. Old series has completely other ships. And as Omen and Geddon are older than the new BSG, CCP can't have been inspired by it. Maybe the new BSG was inspired by EVE. So: First there was BSG, then there was EVE, then there was BSG Remake.

To you...exactly. To the others not so obvious, to someone that might have not (gasp!) actually have seen the new series not obvious at all.
And there were little scanning red slit lights in the original series, only on the Cylons themselves if I remember correctly but still it was nearly 30 years ago and we all can't read between the lines as well as others.

Just in, CCP has released photos of the new Amarr Tier 3 Battleship:
Amarr BS
To confirm rumors about the new Amarr BS being a drone carrier, CCP has revealed that this Battleship will be able to carry and launch 250 Raider Drones, apparently a new type of fighter. In addition, it appears that the ship itself is designed to be a missile platform with several launcher hardpoints, as seen here.

I don't care if you guys think the Amarr ships don't look Cylon enough to be called Cylon ships.
I've been naming most of my fighting ships "Cylon _____" where _____ is whatever I think it should by (raider, transport, hauler, etc). I've been naming them cylon ships for a few months now =P

Actually changing the subject slightly (the mention of the Geddon in that post reminded me of this), it always surprised me in my early days of playing how ships look in game when I'd only previously seen them in the item database.
Main ones that spring to mind are the Apocalypse and the Ferox
Was this done on purpose for the website to keep the "oooh" factor in the game as people first started to buy larger ships in the early days?

Actually, the OP never said anything of the sort - you did, after people started mocking you for an incorrect statement. The OP simply said "Don't a lot of amarr ships look like cylon ships from battlestar galactica? they have that slit across the front just like the eye/scanner on cylon raiders."
Quote: And the reason i never stated which series i was on about well reading the OP its pretty obvious which one it is.
Sure, whatever you say. The fact remains that, no matter how you spin it, Battlestar Galactica existed before EVE Online. Just like King Kong existed before Peter Jackson, and "Venus" existed before Bananarama.

The troops were troops. Not ships. It should be entirely obvious, even to you, that he refers to the new series, not the old. That much is obvious even to me, and I've watched almost nothing of either of them. ________________________________________________

Since when do ships have Eyes?
He wasnt talking about the shape of the ships, nor suggesting anything shipwise about them. He was purely talking about EYE/Scanner thing on cylon raiders. robots could have scanners, so could ships.. but ships dont have eyes... big giveaway that one :) robots have "eyes" though :)
It should be entirely obvious even to you, that he refers to the robotic raiders from the old series, not the new. That much is obvious to me, and I've watched both of them (so perhaps more suited for commenting on this subject?? hmm..).

I think that's his point. The "cinematic" zoom you can do with holding down both mouse buttons is similar to the "hand held combat photographer quick zoom" effect that was used in Firefly and BSG. -- Lil Miner |

His clarification does not change the fact that your original statement was non-specific and that your alleged meaning cannot be directly inferred from it.
Taking it at face value "EVE was around before Battlestar Galactica" is still ridiculous.
By the way, the new series was already in production when EVE was released (both came out in 2003), so I'm not sure how they could copy anything from it. - - - - - "Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance." - Sam Brown |

Your all completely wrong......
This is in fact, a cunning plan left over by Knight Industries to populate the entire sci-fi genre with swooshy red lights that move side to side with accompanying 'swooosh' sound effect.
Next step in their plan for total Domination OF All Things KIT is for every pilot to wear black leather jackets, seriously dodgy hairdo's and speak to their ships.
It would appear that the first victims of Hasslehoffness are the Amarrians, but for all their laser gadget wizadry, cant quite get the light on the Zealot to work.
Next, you'll find all Rax's will have a secret 'TURBO BOOST' mode that will allow them to leap over gates and stations in a single bound, landing on top of innocent vitims without sustaining any damage... Plans for the fabled 'PURSUIT MODE' have all ready been rolled out under the guise of the 'Micro Warp Drive'....
What next in the evil plans of Knight Industries......super range communication sniffers that allow you to read other peoples corp chat whilst they fly by and the ability to remotely switch off other pilots electronic circuits!!!
You have all been warned.. The Hour of KIT is near.....
It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

3 points...
A) Cylon Raiders in BG-75 have eyes. They are organic, living entities, with distinct personalities. They are also near immortal, so like EVE pilots they just get better ever time you kill them.
B) I thought it was going to be a discussion about religion too. :(
C) Nostalgia notwithstanding, new series BG is actually good drama with award winning actors in it. Old series BG is largely Saturday matinee quality. I'll take BG-75 any day.
