Is this lame? I mean to me it seems like the most profitable way to make money as a pirate? I mean once u hit -5.0 you cant get anything cept for alt really unless u make it or have someone make it for u.
For scouting I think its not lame either. I just use a noob alt in a rookie ship to go in .4 -.1 and sometimes 0.0 for camps, to look for a target so when they see u in local and have a bc or better they cant warp out in time unless they do it the second u warp in without even seeing your sec status.
To me it seems like the best way to pirate and actually make a living here.
What do you old pirates think about this? ( I heard some of you consider it lame)

howd you think pirates buy stuff from empire?
and all the pro solo players use an alt to scout. The trick is figuring out who their alt is.

I have an alt for shopping, who i sometimes use to scout. I mean tbh, if i'm blobbed 10v1 I don't see how it's unfair if i find out what's going on. I don't exactly hide who my alt is anyway

I would not camp a gate without a scout. In fact, most of the time I run two scouts as well as my main. Lets you spot likely targets in advance and run from likely problems.
One of my scouts is a second account, the other is a trial (he's still deciding on wether to subscribe or not lmao)

my n00b alt saved my pod last night by graciously offering to eject from his shuttle, with the insta BMs in his hold :)

I dont use an alt to do anything. I find the atmosphere of being the survivor in low sec much more fun then "cheating" or being "lame" but thats just me being "hardcore". But I'm not going to smack other pirates for using alts to make life for them easier, its just there way of doing things.

I look at it this way.
Would a successful pirate in REAL life, not pay to have spies/scouts in port? Telling them which ships are loading up and about to head to sea? Wouldn't it be nice to a satalite phone, call a agent in the port, and find out if your picture is up on the wall as a wanted poster?
In real life, we'd higher people to do this kind of thing for us. Since there aren't players willing to take micro payments of that sort, we use alts.

How can it be lame? And why does it matter if someone uses another character to move/collect/scout, what a crap thread. -----------------------------------------------

Who said anything about hiding on an alt? I would not use alts for scouting personally, but when it comes to hauling things from high sec there is only one dependable way to do it. Or would you actually buy a BPO from some low sec station and mine for your ships?

LOL. Whatever mon.
Seriously though why even bother with the sec hit if people gonna skirt around it with an alt? Actually whether this action is lame or not is not even a consideration, a pirate is gonna exploit 110% whatever he can period.
In fact now that I think about it I hope all pirates use alts for supplies and scouting so that CCP can finally see how usless their Concord sec hit is.

Why even bother with getting a ship if I'm just going to blow yours up anyway?
Don't use that type of logic here. --------------

Would be nice to have a way to see who the alt is though, so you could pod him next time he leaves high sec space.

aye and CCP would make more money and have more money to spend on game development so we'd all win....alts are not good rp....are used for to many exploits etc...1 character per account....that's the way it should be.
Make people take responsibility for their actions not hide behind alts..or use alts to trick/scam people etc.

#1. You are not a pirate, and don't understand the logistical problems of being one. #2. You are most likely an alt

I make alts use them for some time then sell them great way to make extra isk, good way to keep me alive, and if were talking about pirates what about anti-pirate alts its done by both sides

Maybe so but all my characters are upstanding. I would never attack someone then exploit the fact I can switch to an alt to circumvent the penalty for my actions.
Had a chat once with one of the peeps over at CCP about crime and punishment, they said that pirates, murderers, the like take a serious sec hit for their nefarious actions. That being the sole "effective" penalty CCP implemented ingame. But if people can just switch between low sec rated main and high sec rated alt then how's the sec hit make any difference at all? If pirates just fed off each other I wouldn't care but fact is they tend to feed off the weak and near defensless.

If you got rid of alts you would have to get rid of the 14 day trial as well. Because people would just use those instead.
And the 14 day trial has really boosted eve memberships, according to one of the interviews i read. Everything has its pros and cons, however in eve, with the exception of a few code exploits, everything is a TACTIC, not abuse.
It is wholy impossible to prevent these types of things from happening. People will ALWAYS find ways to adapt. Why waste your time chasing them all down to fix?
This goes for that same "instas are lame" argument as well.

S-S-SUPERSLAM!
Alts are a consequence of people wanting to have all options possible within reason. Another popular combo is the pvp/merc/mission runner with an industry alt on the side. It might suck to be defeated/disappointed/outsmarted/outgamed by that, but you'll find the exact same stretching of the envelope in any game. Deal with it, write down the names of known alts, deal with it, win.
At the moment I'm training a second account to pod Malka Badi'a.
Should we start naming known pirate alts now? I got a few.
