Hello all,
So, long story short, i'm coming back to Eve after a while and i have some questions.
While i train my toon up to use a wider range of ships, i was looking at going full time Covert Ops for a corp. I was wondering just how useful this actually is.
I know you always need scouts, but i was wondering if it was actually viable to run with one full time.
If any of you nice people could offer your opinions, or even better, link me to a good guide for Covert Ops. I'd heard you can make money with them as well, by hacking etc?
Excuse my lack of knowledge. :)
Thank you. |

covert ops ships of all kinds are extremely desirable for a number of useful roles.
The standard covert ops frigate makes a great scout, excellent scanning ship, or even a covert cynosural ship.
Stealth Bombers are extremely versatile as fleet bombers, solo PvPers, and scouts. But they are paper thin.
Force Recons are covert capable EWAR platforms. Falcons are always useful. Though they have somewhat weak offense, their EWAR abilities more than compensate for it.
There are also the T3 covert reconfigured strategic cruisers for a better tanky cruiser, and Black Ops Battleships for short ranged covert jump portaling into cyno jammed systems or hot drops.
Train Covert Operations and Recons to 5 for best effect. Bombers require torpedoes, so that will be some extra training. But it is well worth it.
As for making money with exploration, the T3s are excellent for this. You don't need a lot of dps or tank to run mag or radar sites. But neither do you need a covert ship for it. "How do you kill that which has no life?" |

Depending on where you plan to fly, moderately useful to impossibly useful/cannot live without.

Three things:
1. Yes, probing and scouting are always useful.
2. Yes, provided you have friend to take out the rats you can make money from sites (especially wormhole sites) you find.
3. Unfortunately, you're going to have a hard time convincing people that your one and only interest in flying covert ops for them. I'm not familiar with the Blops-centric corps, so I could be over-reaching here, but most corps i've been with in k and w-space don't trust anyone whos "only" character/account sits around in a cov-ops 23/7. It just screams spy and if you do have the good fortune to find a corp that will take you in on this premise, expect them to bring a lynch mob the first time they sense an intel leak. |

A WH corp would meet your wishes and I would go straight for a cloaky T3. They are the flexible platform that excel in that environment

Thanks very much for your replies.
I can already fly a Tengu actually, most of my skill points are sitting in Caldari missle boats, but i cross trained to Minmatar way too early. I've been using one for level 4s and i've done some nul sec complexes.
I was also looking to join a Wormhole corp as well, so maybe that would be the way forward.
Is there a decent amount of money to be made from Hacking/Analysing etc?. |
