Announcing "EVE Skill Planner - Mobile Edition"
Ever wanted to have a skill program for your mobile ? Well now you can
You can add characters, set up their attributes, add skills and set their levels, and even flag them as being currently trained.
There's quite a bit I want to add to it, so it's no where near finished.
You can get it here: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DAW/MobileSkills.zip (size is approx 37k)
Enjoy --

You have to have a mobile phone that support Java, install it as you would any other application. --

Man it's one sweet program! Had to install it into my Nokia 6630 right away.
What if we have already trained the skill a bit... timer probably shows wrong then? Some sort of sp input? Does it give some sort of alarm when skill is ready? Maybe option to do so? (Definately toggle and if possible silent alarm when phone is in silent mode)

Glad you like it :)
Originally by: Jameroz If you stop training the sp goes back to last level or if you have already learned some it will also show wrong time.
I know, I will be adding that to the next release and also the ability to enter your SPs manually.
Originally by: Jameroz Does it give some sort of alarm when skill is ready? Maybe option to do so? (Definately toggle and if possible silent alarm when phone is in silent mode)
This is my first attempt at writing a J2ME program but I think there is an API available on some phones to add alarms, I'll be looking into this.
Originally by: Jameroz Maybe we could just download and parse our XML file to update the current skill. (And skill tree)
There is an API for parsing XML files on some models and I have the dev tools to do this. I'll try to get that into the next release.
Originally by: Jameroz Training times could maybe be shown in the character selection for quick glancing.
Something I wanted to do already, include the skill name and completion time on the character list.
Originally by: Jameroz Even tho the start animation is nice and all... I would prefer not having to see it everytime.
I guess I could add an option to disable it on application start ;)
In the next release you will also be able to hide skills that you don't have. And then show them as required to add a new skill to your trained list. --

Updated the program.
Changes:
- Main List
- Added total skill count and points
- Added training skill name and time left
- Skills list
- Pressing [1] Hides/Show untrained skills
- Pressing [3] in the skill details allows you to set the exact SPs you have (when a skill isn't training)
- Partially trained skills are displayed in different colors (>90% green, >50% yellowish green or yellow if <= 50%)
- Load XML file
- Only started on this, so don't be suprised if you get asked if the app can access your phone's file system and the load screen only shows the root entries (press LEFT or [4] to leave the screen).
- Skill training
- Training time is now added to a skill's SPs when you stop training.
I'll see if I can get the FS browser and XML stuff finished this weekend.
What I also want to do is add a ship list with required skills and it will show you required skills to fly it, training times, etc., don't know when though. --

If your phone doesn't support this you won't even see the [LOAD] option, well you shouldn't

Has anyone tried this one with Nokia 9300i? I have, but can't get it work properly...
If I try to add char, app just keeps repeating Name on every line. Did I just miss something or is it not doable?

After adding a character you should select the [Edit] option to set base attributes and any implants you might have.
Once that is done you can start adding skills.
To to that, select the [Skills] tab, and press [5]/[FIRE], then you can navigate through the skill tree using up/down and left/right.
To set a skill "training" just press [5]/[FIRE] on the skill details.
You can set the exact SPs for a skill by pressing [3]
You can hide/unhide the list of untrained skills by pressing [1]
Hope this helps. --

Wow, this is one sweet app! Got it mostly working with my Sony Ericsson z520i
Bug I found though: a) create a character b) go into skills (5 on skills) c) into a sub category (5) d) into a specific category (5) e) once in this screen, you can't go back to the specific categories (ie (4) doesnt do anything), you've gotta add a skill before you can go back
Pretty minor, but something to look at

Oh, the above also happens if you just go straight into [skills] without creating a character.
ie (5) on [skills] (5) on [Drones] (5) on [Drone Durability]
Doing the following, locks you into a list of the drone skills and you cant do anything at all, just scroll the list up or down

Ok it seems to be pretty cool, but i dont think its working properly on my phone. I installed it, ran it, then only one option showed up on the main menu. Thought that was the way it was supposed to be, was going through the skills list... pretty neat. Then i selected a skill for detail about it, neat. Tried get out of it, doesn't work :( I just have to keep scrolling through all teh skills in detail in that catagory, and thats all there is. Keep up the good work though p.s phone is motorola e770v (i think)

Hi Shigsy,
The app uses the following keys: [4] - Left [6] - Right [2] - Up [8] - Down [5] - Select [1] - Show/Hide untrained skills [3] - In skill details allows you to set the exact skill points for that skill
You use left/right to change the option at the top.
Select "Add" (Use left/right until it appears the press [5]) to add a character and enter the name. Select "Edit" to set the base attributes and any implants you might have.
Select "Skills" and move up and down to the group you want and open the group using [Select] or [Right]. To leave a group use [Left].
In the group move up and down to the skill you want and open the group using [Select] or [Right]. To leave a skill and go back to the group use [Left].
In an untrained skill the level boxes are red, you use [Right] to increase the level of the skill (0->5), increasing it again at level 5 puts it back as being untrained. To set the exact skill points press [3] and a dialog will appear that allows you to do so (you can only do this if the skill isn't training). Pressing select in the skills details toggles the skills "in training" flag if it is not already at level 5, and the times and skill points switch to green.
I thought that I had fixed that "leave skill" bug, but it is still there if a character hasn't been created. I've just uploaded version 1.2.5 that fixes this issue. --

What method are different folks using to install java apps on their phones?
I have a Razr that I have reflashed with a Stock MonsterPack from MotoX. Hook it up to the comp, run p2k Commander and once its linked go into KJava, I have plenty of other JAR apps that I've installed this way, simple point-click ad installed, however when I do the planner this way and run it I get a white screen (loading standard) and then it closes out with applicaion error...
Thoughts would be nice, also since Im a nublet in this area, what is the necessity of the *.jad file?

From my understanding of the whole java thing, the .jad file is a compiled version of the .jar that some phones prefer. Hence you just install one or the other.

This application sounds great. I'm trying to install it on a SE P910i but keep getting an "Incompatible Java version" error when installing.
I don't think that the P910i supports CLDC-1.1, it only does CLDC-1.0.
Does the Java source rely on CLDC version 1.1 features? If not would you please try making available a version of the application set for CLDC-1.0.
Many thanks and keep up the good work. |

There are only 1 or two functions that need CLDC 1.1, I'll look into building 2 versions for future releases. --

But when I try to run it, I get the Java splash for a second, then it just quits. The little Worm program the converter tool came with works fine, so the J2ME seems to be OK.

Excellent app. If you'd like me to take a look at the source code I could give it a pass with the debuggers we have here in College ('course I'd keep the source if it were me ). They usually find things personal debuggers miss. 3 years of Java programming might finally pay off |

this is an awsome tool i have found a slight little problem its not completely accurate. im sure i set all my skills right and my points tally up but instant recall im training to lvl2 says 1h 32 mins and the phone application tells me 1h 16 mins
and if i look at learning lvl 5 its nearly 2 days out not sure if this is a slight miscalculation in the program but just thought i would make you aware.
im pretty sure its not me being a numpty though then again could be :)

ok i solved my problem still about 2 seconds out on the instant recall lvl 2 but i took intel down by 2 and memory down by 1 lvl and it seems pretty accurate even the level 5 learning skill is only a few seconds out which is cool so maybe the atributes are over effecting the skill time.

Jaabaa just a quick question not relating really to the program but in a way it is :S
Anyway have you thought of applying to CCP, the devs have said they are trying to develop a mobile version of EVE for PDA's, for things like checking skills, buying & selling on the market etc.
Just an idea, better yet CCP hire this man, and dont take no for an answer _______________________________________________

Originally by: Jameroz Now just get us alarm (with option how many minutes before it should be given)
I have already looked into this before and the alarm API for J2ME is probably one of the worst things to even try to write to.
I might have a look at the PIM API and see if I can automatically add an entry in the phone's calendar with an alarm.
Originally by: Jameroz and some sort of automatic character template loading. (As the XML loading it currently has doesn't work with all phones)
I had a play with that just now, theoretically I could get the app to connect to EO boards and grab the XML from the server. I'll have to see if I can find a decent XML parser for it though if the phone doesn't come with one already installed. --

ATM it uses the XML API that some phones have but if I rewrite the XML processing to use a different parser then all the phone has to support is access to the file system.
I'll investigate this further. --

Got it running a treat on my Nokia 6280, but no import XML option which is a shame. Not sure how/where on the phone you store the char data, but would it be possible to edit them on the PC to input skills and then transfer them back to the phone?
Or maybe have a PC app to convert the XML file into the correct format to be transfered to the phone?

There is no way to do that, each phone type has it's own way of storing the data and that might even differ between software versions. --

The attributes must be you BASE attributes, without skills or implants applied. The effective values should be the same as your ingame character sheet information after you have setup the learning skills and added any implants you might have. --

What's a V3 ?
My guess is that he is refering to a Motorola Razr v3. Same phone i'm using atm, his problem is thus the same as mine, this phone only supports CLDC version 1.0.
Any chance you will put some time into a 1.0 compliant version like you mentioned some post ago?

I saw this app and got immediately excited. I have 4 accounts and sometimes I just don't like running evemon on my office machine(it can be a bit of a resource hog). I think this program is great. I run it on a Samsung i730 Windows Mobile 2005 device. I have to use a java interpreter, but it works great.
I would be intrested in pushing this forward. I'm not a strong programmer, but I'm a good problem solver and I have a great interest in this functioning somewhat like evemon does for windows. Online update, multiple accounts/toons, etc...
Maybe someday, CCP will get around to making the eve client for ppc/palm so that we can chat, change skills, manage corp affairs, etc. Basically do everything but fly in space.
We shall see.

Toaster, what do you use as a Java Interpreter. I'm running a PPC-6700 on WM5, and am having no luck. I get the .jar open in a JVM program and it immediately closes.

I can try taking a bite out of it for you.
Also about the V3, do note there's about 4 versions of the RAZR V3 from Motorola and only 3 support Java. V3 - supports java V3i - supports java V3im - supports java
Basically all the GSM versions support Java.
Now for the CDMA ones (none support java, except for some very specific carriers (Alltel is one) joy!), these all fell under Qualcomm's BREW racketeering
V3c - no java support V3m - no java support
the V3x is NOT a RAZR or a V3 for that matter, it's a rebranded V1150.
The MAXX (V6) coming out next year may have Java in it. Your signature is inappropriate. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected] Tirg

I am looking into the alarm stuff, It doesn't seem to be too hard to have the appliaction restart when the next skill (if you have more than one account) has completed.
Regarding grabbing the XML directly from eveo, I'm not sure how many people would feel comfortable with entering their account details into an appliaction that doesn't come from CCP.
With that being said, if I find the time I will be documenting and reorganizing the code and will publish it on SourceForge under the GPL, then I would be prepared to add code for grabbing the XML directly from eveo, and everyone can see that I'm not doing anything nasty with it.
On a side note, when I do finally get around to releasing it on SF, I will be able to provide an online installation location for the application too .

I expect a re-import of my xml-data would fix this (might be time for this anyway as I haven't always remembered to switch training on the phone :)).
And....

Narrowed my import problem down to the Salvaging skill:
<skill typeName="Salvaging" typeID="25863"> <groupID>269</groupID> <flag>7</flag> <rank>3</rank> <skillpoints>750</skillpoints> <level>1</level> <skilllevel1>750</skilllevel1> <skilllevel2>4243</skilllevel2> <skilllevel3>24000</skilllevel3> <skilllevel4>135765</skilllevel4> <skilllevel5>768000</skilllevel5> </skill> Removing this from my xml-file makes the Mobile Planner happily import the file - with the above portion in, it just 'hangs' at 'Loading Erialor Godsent'
Ofc. I can just add the skill manually after importing the xml-file - but I hope it's fixable

Dunno how much application that was in "sleep mode" would consume battery... but if it wouldn't eat battery too fast it could be ran on the background. Tho I guess checking every 5 mins if skill is going to be ready next X minutes would do the trick too. Preferably make it so that everyone can set the time themselves then I can set it to be like 5mins when I'm in home and 1 hour when I'm not so I have some time for traveling.
Any chance to see the source code published?

One thing that would really make this the ultimate app would be automatic updating.
Essentially a mobile version of evemon.
The phones all have data capabilities. Every hour or so (or manually when directed), they access the eve character file. It would take some work, but would really make this the killer app it is crying out to be. A mobile version of evemon which updates in real-time would be the ultimate.

Yes, it would be neat. Dunno how the current XML thingy works (Phone missing the XML component used atm)... only by manually uploading the file?
I presume it wouldn't be too hard to fetch it. Tho probably requires you to log in, save the cookies and then access the url with the cookies available. (Please tell if you know better way)
been doing it with following unix shell script
Quote:
$id="" $username="" $password="" wget --quiet -O temp --keep-session-cookies --save-cookie login.txt --post-data "username=$username&password=$password&remember=1&Check=OK&login=Login&r=&t=" https://myeve.eve-online.com/login.asp sid=`cat temp | grep -o "sid=[0-9]*"` wget --quiet -O xml.asp --load-cookie login.txt "http://myeve.eve-online.com/character/xml.asp?characterID=$id&$sid"

I would use the PushRegistry alarm to start the application shortly before the next skill is due to complete, I would make the amount of time before it completes variable though.

The Sun developer's toolkit includes a mobile phone emulator, I just fire up the application with that

It is actually very do-able, once I have the application switched over to using kXML2, I should be able to easily add the code to download the XML and parse it. --

I have a new SE W850i.
I've loaded the app, and imported my xml file.
However when I set "Advanced Weapon Upgrades 5" training, it starts at the end of level4, as if I haven't trained 92% of it so far, as I have done.
So I then manually updated the amount of skillpoints I have on the skill, and whilst it then said that I had only 10 days to go, that certainly didn't match the actual 2 days I had to go, according to Eve and EveMon.
I have checked that my attributes and implants are in correctly.
Why would it be showing this incorrectly?
I think the biggest improvement to this app could be made to the UI. Rather than "hidden" options, where pressing a key results in something, a menu structure where you actively select a function would be easier to follow.
I'm not moaning tho, just trying to provide some feedback |

Using a Motorola V3i (RAZR), but I am wondering. Can't the phone import my skills, or do I need to put the XML file on my phone before it will display the LOAD function.
also, you could make the download from EVE optional, i.e. this menu tree:
LOAD(or UPDATE)> -EVE -XML
with the EVE option you'll have to enter account info to grab the file, and by XML you can manually select a file.
Can't wait till i got my skills in!

Sorry for not being very responsive on this topic, but I've been very busy and not had much time for this.
But I've found the time to move forward on this project now.
So what's going to happen with the mobile planner ?
Well 1st off, the next version won't support MIDP 1.0, it will be MIDP 2.0 only, so anyone with a really old phone that only has V1 support will have to stick with the last release of V1.
Whats coming in V2 then ?
Definite:
- Online download of character information (like EVEMon).
- Integrated XML parser, so no dependencies there.
- Support for devices with a touch screen.
Maybe (If I can get it to work, and your phone supports it):
- Alarm when the next skill completes, i.e. the application wakes up again
- Support for adding calender entries in the native calender
Like I said, I'm starting a whole new V2 branch of development so it might be a while (2-3 weeks) before I have something to release, but when it's ready, you'll be the first to know.

Nice to see you're back on track :D
v1.2.16 seems to have been working fine for me for quite some time now, but I noticed that a few skills has wrong requirements.
- EM Shield Compensation - Explosive Shield Compensation - Kinetic Shield Compensation - Thermic Shield Compansation
All listed as requiring Tactical Shield Manipulation IV, when it's in fact Shield Operation IV that's required.
Another - very minor - issue is that some times when I enter the Navigation-skilltree, it last all skills and not only trained skills, exiting and re-entering the Navigation-tree fixes this - and only seen this happen in the Navigation-tree.
Besides from these non-impacting issues I really love your application here :D And really looking forward to the v2-series.
Cheers

Jaaba,
Thanks for this. Kinda new to mobile computing. I've got a Windows mobile 6.0 device. Any known issues there? Had trouble downloading and installing.
1) Got around the download issue (does not recognize zip or jar types in a browser) by using my desktop to save the zip and then network access to it to launch the installer.
2) Install seem to go OK. Launching the app appeared to have launched then quit right away. No visible error messages, nothing left running. Checked permissions and I don't even get prompts during the launch of the app.
Suggestions?

This app is seriously brilliant, had a few errors with the program which I think is due to me accidentally setting two skills to train at once, which caused the program to die and I had to redownload it and reset my skills . It may have been language version problems though as it worked fine after I set it to english before reinstalling (was some /lang/ stuff in the error message).
Anyways, if you had a donate link, I would seriously have thrown some money after you .

The next version will use the new API, because that will be available before V2 is ready, it'll be the only way.
Updating/loading the skill tree from the server (Generic Data) will also be included, so no more "wrong requirements"
When I find the time, I'll also add support for things like the account information, wallet and transaction logs. So you'll be able to check that one the move too.

Quick update on the development.
The current development state supports:
- Multiple accounts
- Loading the characters via new XML API
- Loading training via new XML API
- Loading character image
- Shows list of all characters, their training skills and completion times, and if another char on the account is training already
TODO (before I let you all have a go)
- Add character editor (implants,etc)
- Skills browser
- Allow adding of characters manually
- Manual skill switching

I just wanted to let anyone else who had the same problem as me know how to get this to run. I have the new sprint ppc 6800 "mogul" which is running windows mobile 6. Apparently the java they are using is a garbage third party version and would simply exit if I attempted to run the midlet or near any java other then the official downloads. I installed a windows mobile emulator for java and now the skill planner is working great. You can find the cab file for the ibm javaME emulator here.
By the way, thanks for the skill program its amazing Jaabaa. I'm very happy I finally got it to run.
