Ok, first off I want to apologize if I don't describe what I'm trying to do well enough to understand. But I'll give it my best shot:
Part of what's bothering me is that EVE seems like it bombards you with a LOT of info. I'm the type of person who likes to multitask and keep lots of windows open for the sake of convenience. That means screen space is at a premium.
I have two monitors. I've figured out how to extend the game to cover both of them, and keep the camera centered on the left monitor. I've figured out how to move around most of the UI elements to my liking. However, here's where the problem is:
Certain parts of the UI I can't figure out how to move, or can't be moved. Such as the indicators of objects in space that are off camera. They always lock to the edges of the rendered game at the edge of the window.
What I would like to do is have the game use both windows, but only render the game in the left monitor, leaving the right monitor for ONLY windows such as inventory, journal, market, skill queue, etc. I don't want the game to render in the second monitor at all, ONLY the UI elements that I place there.
Is this possible? And if it isn't, can I PLEASE get some advice on how to maximize the real estate of my game window? |

In short no, not as far as I'm aware anyway. Eve just isn't written in a way that allows you to do so.
There's no settings for off camera objects so them binding to the edge of the screen is probably hard coded.
I play on a single monitor and my layout is pretty much this. I've got all my chat, except local in one tab group, and pretty much everything else in another tab group. Any window can be reduced to just the title bar by double clicking in an area of the title bar with no tabs. I'd kill to have another decent size monitor, just don't have the room for it.

Lol when you only have a limited amount of pixels to work with, you do the best you can. If you want any help with setting something like that up just ask, I'll be happy to help, others will too.

How did you get the tabs to stick to the top of the screen like that? |

When I'm playing on my laptop at work (yay for IT jobs) I use this UI setup (1600x900): Local has it's own window of course, and all my other chats are next to it, tabbed. The bottom right corner is the minimum width of the Galaxy Map window, and the minimum height of the System Scanner. I keep Fleet, Galaxy Map, Active Ship, System Scanner, Survey Scanner, and Notepad all docked on this same window (as I rarely use any of them at the same time). Then the Overview is the same width, all the way up the screen. Drones are docked left of the scanner window, with Watchlist and the loot window above the drones.
Ultimately, all my chat is on the left, and everything I want to click is on the right pane. Plus I can still actually see my ship and what's going on.
Oh... and that's VLC media Player set to "always on top". :) |

I pretty much put all my information gathering windows on the right hand side of the screen (overview, dscan, local, people&places with inventory in the same tab etc) and the spaceships and chats on the left hand on the screen (offsetting the whole UI by 50-ish% to the left).
I also moved my ship interface/actionbar to the top and left side, which means I can keep looking at the top of my screen where everything happens.
I found that for learning EvE it helps a great deal to have all information in the same place. |

Collapsed windows can sometimes be temperamental though. Sometimes the window folds up into the bar, and sometimes the window squeezes down.
It should collapse downwards if it's snapped to a bottom row but it doesn't seem to always do that.
Also dont forget that the inventory can use a compact mode that shows ONLY contents, no isk values, space used bar, or tree layouts.
Also if you want some future help try hanging out in "Help Chat - Reloaded" where you can get help in a casual space where there's no "off topic" and chat isn't always scrolling by at a mile a minute :P The Drake is a Lie |

Star wars episode 3. I'm surprised you can bring yourself to watch it. Although it did have some good lightsaber fights.....

I already noticed the inventory window doing strange things. Sometimes it would stick to the other tabs where I put, other times it would just close up on it's own and reappear during the tutorial when I received new items. |

My typical screen in EVE during "Non Roam" mode
When I join a public fleets, most channels are just minimized into the NEO with blink off.
Only things open during a roam:
Local in own window. Alliance, Fleet + any supporting channels (like scout channel for instance).
Then on the left from top to bottom: Selected Item, Overview, Watchlist.
To the left of overview will be my D-scan/system scan + drones window (if I have drones). Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

This is getting a little off topic, but I keep hearing people say they have Local chat open. Is there some special reason? Is it just to see who's in the area? |

Local is your prime source of intel about other people, anybody with a criminal or suspect flag, or with a low sec status is highlighted in local. If you're at war, you use the standings mechanic to set the other corp to -10, they'll then be highlighted in local, you can also use this to highlight people like known gankers, or ninja looters.

Very nice. I don't suppose there's a database somewhere of known D-bags? Can I say that here? I'll edit if not.

If you're planning on mining you should definitely set CODE., tank your and ship don't mine AFK; Goons, general bad guys, they create a lot of content; and The Marmite Collective, who are more of a wardec corp but won't turn their nose up at an untanked barge, to a pleasant shade of orange or red. You can find out more about standings at Eve Uni
Just remember it's nothing personal, the douchebag that blows your ship up in game is the same person that's likely to share a few beers with you at a player meet or fanfest.

Meh. I love Star Wars. I fully expect the third trilogy to be no better than the prequels (maybe even worse), but I'll still love them. I just have a playlist that plays all 6 movies in sequence, and I have it up and playing a lot. The novels did a lot more justice to the whole story of the prequels, so I just enjoy the lightsabers and tune out Jar Jar, jetlegs R2, and whiny Annakin. |

The Phantom Edit, probably available from the bay of pirates, does a fair job of getting rid of JarJar. I've got the Family Guy and Robot Chicken Star Wars episodes in the same folder as the movies, always worth a watch.

That's the funny part.
What is a D-bag?
Just because you find someone a D-bag, doesn't mean I or any other pilot share your opinion.
EDIT:
You keep local open because it shows you ALL pilots who are with you in the same system (unless you are in WH space). This is a free, quick and subtle form of getting intel about what happens around you.
War Targets are highlighted in local with an icon. People who are criminal or suspect are highlighted with an icon. If you add someone to your contact list, he is shown in local with what ever standing you assigned to him.
Now say, you are also in low-sec / null-sec, you are alone in system (so only YOU in local), and suddenly it spikes to 29 people. That would be a good time to GTFO to a POS or station and hide in safety, as it's likely a fleet looking for you or moving through. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Just want to make this even more clear.
A person that kills you doesn't have to be a bad person, he just doesn't share your interest in what to do in EVE.
If he kills you, contact him. Stay polite and mature and ask for help on how to get better, 99% of the people in EVE will help you with that. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy
