You won't like it and you won't get it, but, today I've been listening to this:
Mecano - Barco a Venus
When I was a child that song puzzled me like hell, later on I grew and learned of what drugs were and what is the theme of the song.
The refrain goes, roughly:
Stop it now, you know you never went to Venus on a boat; you want to float, yet you just sink and sink. |

Don't speak spanish but the tune is not bad at all. Here is a singer we better keep an eye on. Kyla La Grange. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Htnt2ssAOoand.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kzm4LxWfoUEnjoy this. I know I did.
Yeah, pretty retro... 1983 nonetheless. The 80s were a good time for Pop in Spain, there was lots of garbage but also lots of creativeness and some really nice musicians and bands. |

The refrain goes, roughly: Stop it now, you know you never went to Venus on a boat; you want to float, yet you just sink and sink. I used to like that song a lot as a little kid, I remember listening to it over and over again on a cassette I had, and indeed, back then the lyrics simply went over my innocent head, and I took them to be simply weird and whimsical. Quite poignant now, looking back at Nacho Cano's - and pretty much the whole lot of Spanish '80s music industry - infamous appetite for narcotics. Speaking of which... just this weekend I was laying in bed trying to nurse a headache from the excesses I indulged in (not the usual nochevieja fiestas, but my own one-man party of weed and Civilization V, once family commitments had been taken care of), when the old lady living right below me decided it would be a swell idea to blast at full volume what seemed to be a compilation of Spanish '80s pop greatest hits. And as annoying as that was given my predicament at that moment, and as dated as it may sound nowadays, I had to concede there was indeed an amazing amount of popular good songs, talent and creativity going on in this country back then. Whatever happened to that.
If there was a single lesson i could pass to the next generation of listeners, would be this one: Good music is timeless. It's so true that, if it's timeless, then you can tell it indeed is good music. I have a very good musical memory and my brain is filled with great songs and themes as old as 600 years and as new as just months ago... over 3,000 I can identify, lots more i just would recall having lsiteend to them. Of course my tastes are personal so maybe most of what i deem good would be crap to most people, but, provided how young folks tend to flock on a certain style and never get out of it... they are missing a wealth of experiences and culture. |

The refrain goes, roughly: Stop it now, you know you never went to Venus on a boat; you want to float, yet you just sink and sink. Mecano, most of their songs were like national anthems to the parties I used to go when I was a teenager. Fact is, Mecano, one of my long lasting loves in Music has been so influential to me, that I can recall with vivid details their songs for the simple fact I used to put their songs on the stereo every time I made love, danced, chatted or simply existed with my girlfriends when I was younger. They were and still are super popular in Latinamerica. Everytime I listen to Mecano is like listening to an erotic love song. Takes me to a time of much less worries and the women I left behind as I grew older. Now all of them are gone, scattered to the winds, some dead, others married , with kids , divorced or their whereabouts completely unknown to me, yet I remember all of them as if it happened yesterday, when they were young and happy and everything was much much simpler, their beauty encapsulated in a perfect frame of good memories and sheer human love. If there is something I regret, now that I am older, Is not having loved more women. I'm still amazed at the power of music. Like you and many others, Mecano is simply a whole chunk of our lives, an innocent time, a time that is no more and all we can do is remember as we gaze up to the sky and wander aimlessly within our minds.
Mecano = anthems? For sure.
Plug in nostalgia mode... straight from (maybe) their finest record, "Descanso dominical", 1988.

Rachid Taha - Barra barra
Lyrics:
Barra Barra (litherally Out! Out!, meaning: GÇ£Out and away with it!GÇ¥)
Barra barra! Sadness, hate and the reign of arbitrary Barra barra! Destruction, jealousy; there is no trust left Barra barra! Thirst and people are unlucky Barra barra! No honour, but oppression and slavery Barra barra! Rivers and seas were dried up, have ruined everything Barra barra! Stars are dimmed and the sun went down Barra barra! There are no trees left and the birds stopped singing Barra barra! There are neither days, nor nights left, darkness only Barra barra! Hell; there is no beauty left Barra barra!
Barra barra! Time has passed, there is no honour left Barra barra! Ruin and war and blood is flowing Barra barra! There are only walls left, walls standing up Barra barra! Fear and people remain silent Barra barra! Sadness, hate and the reign of arbitrary Barra barra! Destruction and jealousy ; there is no trust left Barra barra! Rivers and seas were dried up, have ruined everything Barra barra! Stars are dimmed and the sun went down Barra barra, barra barra
Barra barra! There is neither Good, nor Happiness, nor Luck anymore Barra barra! There are no trees left; the birds stopped singing Barra barra! There are neither nights, nor days left; darkness only Barra barra! Desolation, hell, there is no beauty left Barra barra!
Barra barra! Time has passed, there is no honour left Barra barra! Ruin and war and blood is flowing Barra barra! There are only walls left, walls standing up Barra barra! Sadness, hate and the reign of arbitrary Barra barra! Destruction and jealousy ; there is no trust left. Stars are dimmed, and the sun went down Barra barra! There is neither Good, nor Happiness, nor Luck left Barra barra! There are no trees left; birds stopped singing Barra barra! There are neither nights nor days left; darkness only Barra barra! Desolation, hell, there is no beauty left Barra barra! Time has passed, there is no honour left Barra! Barra, barra, barra!!

Jota de la Clara (traditional)
This is a traditional song from the Salamanca area, about a girl (Clara) who went to work as a maid and her master made her pregnant, so she had to come back and marry in a hurry, to no avail as they call her a wh*** and nobody wants to talk to her.
This kind of attitude was usual in rural Spain as late as the 1960s. EVE is Serious Business: You shall not feel entitled to being allowed to play EVE just because you are paying it. |

But then, who hasn't had some music band with hot girls?
In Spain we had the merit to invent the concept without knowing that it had already being invented abroad (Spain until the 80s, was quite a funny place).
And so these two girls totally rocked it when they hit the radio stations right the same year as yours truly was born:

The Spanish equivalent would be, probably, the bolero! And here's one of my favorites: Dyango - Querer y perder (1980) Right on IF, it really is the same thing fantastical romance theme. With the pure professional musical execution and production, supporting a passionate vocalist. I can imagine a concert hall full of grandmas and some grandpas, who are still in the game and ready to groove. So good! We lost Lawrence Welk about 1 second into the video though. He had to cover his and the whole orchestras eyes. (Apologies for the chat, carry on thread!)

CCP Seagull: "EVE should be a universe where the infrastructure you build and fight over is as player driven and dynamic as the EVE market is now".
62% of players: "We're not interested. May we have Plan B, please?"

Blaumut - Vuit (2015)
Some people think that their lyrics are deep or have a meaning. They don't understand that lyrics and voice are a part of the music.

The lyrics are spooky, but her voice makes them dreamlike instead:
R+¦yksopp ft. Susanne Sundf++r - Running to the sea
On the other hand, R+¦yksopp or not R+¦yksopp, this is NOT how to cover Depeche Mode:
R+¦yksopp ft. Susanne Sundf++r - Ice machine
Seriously, voice matters when covering, even if you're covering David Gahan in his 20s.

Seriously, WTF? What kind of a list is that without including some of the most famous cowbell songs ever?
On behalf of my cousin Ishtanchuk the oldies lover:
Credence Clearwater Revival - Down on the corner (1969)
The Rolling Stones - Honky tonk women (1969)
Any of these two completely wipes the floor with all of the list above.

+¥-î-ä++-é +ú-å+¦+¦+¦+¦+++¼+¦++-é - +Å-Ç+¦ +Å-Ç+¦ (Notis Sfakianakis - Opa Opa, 1992)
That was the original. The first dance version was this one:
Antique - Opa Opa (1999)
And the one that became widely popular was this one:
Despina Vandi - Opa Opa (2004)
Now, none of them is further from the original version (but still haves a good quality) as this nightcore...
Opa Opa (nightcored version)
Each all of these 4 versions are quite better than the stuff posted above. And BTW, 360-¦ video is lame...

Making everything to sound like dad... op success.
But you know the saying, genius skips a generation. What it's too garbled as part of a 1/2 mix, becomes purified as a part of a 1/4 mix. This is why grandsons look so much like grandparents and why every son of a great man has been cursed with it unless his grandfather was a great man too. |
