I notice that with some skills when you reach lvl5 it gives you access to another skill. For example, getting drones to lvl5 gives you access to Drone Interfacing. Are there any new skills that become available to you after reaching Engineering lvl5?

As far as I can tell from the EVE Character Manager
Assult Ships
Capital Energy Emission Systems
Capital Shield Emission Systems
Graviton Physics
High Energy Physics
Hyrdomagnetic Physics
Laser Physics
Nuclear Physics
Plasma Physics
Quantum Physics
Most of them affect research characters, two of them if you pilot capital ships, graviton physics was traind by alot of people to use Tractor Beams but they now only require Science lvl 4 (might be usefull if you research though, not sure). Assult ship is for the combat pilots

Even without opening up other skills, you'll never regret training Engineering to level 5.

Quite true and it is probably one of the most important skills to have at lvl 5.

That it is. I had my Rax open for fitting when the skill finished so I actually saw the power level go up. As I was replacing two small blasters with heavies I let out an evil cackle that caused the dogs to look at me funny and leave the room.

Yep engineering and electronics are all best at 5 tbh

Engineering lvl 5 = Assault ships, a must have ship in my opinion

for assault frigates you need frigates5 as well.
Also, heavy assault4 => command ship ;)
