As in, every learning skill to 3? Man, there's a bunch of those things! Yeah, I'm a new player too, started 3 days ago.

yea no joke.... i dont think all of the learning skills are required... ive read some posts where people said all they did was train the learning skill to max right off the bat but that takes like five months or something like that... i dont want to wait that long to enjoy a game im paying 14 bucks a month for

Heya, good luck with your pilot career. Here are a few priority items to train before you step into an Interceptor. First, the required interceptor skills (Evasive Maneuvering 5, Frigates 5, etc.) Second, interceptors are hard to hit because they are small and fast, you'll want to capitalize on that, so train Navigation and Acceleration control as high as you can stand to train them. Then, you'll have to train some weapon skills, either rockets or blasters are common on interceptor builds. Finally, if you plan to use your interceptor to tackle, you'll need skills to operate a warp jammer and webber. Plus, never neglect your capacitor skills and shield tank skills when you're Caldari. That means Shield Operations, Shield Management, Shield Compensation, Energy Management, Energy Systems Operation. Get those all as high as you can stand. By the time you're done with all of that, you'll know enough about the game to go on from there.

Well the training time isn't linear, so if he got everything to 5 he'd spend considerably more time than if he got them all to 3. With my stats I got from learning 0 to learning 3 in about 9 hours (I think; 17 minutes for skill one, 2 hours for skill 2, 7 hours for skill 3). Even with 10 learning skills it might only take you four days of real time to get those up to three, assuming you were always training them between sleep/work/school/etc.

You will need the first level learning skills to at least lvl3 if you expect to get those two level 5 skills trained anytime soon. Analytical mind, iron will, and instant recall.

thanks for the feedback guys... right now im about to get in a badger to mine until i have the cash to buy those skills. I definatly need the learning skills up... level two and three take me 2hrs and like 8 or 9 for level three. So I imagine the jump to level five is going to take awhile. Just curious, as far as tackling in a interceptor if a person warps into the bubble they cant get out and if you drop it before they warp they are stuck, but from what i understand it will not interupt the warp process correct?

Depends on what exactly you mean.
The primary difference is that rocket class weapons (rockets and torpedos) are not affected by Guided Missile Precision and Target Navigation Prediction.
If you're asking about the difference between rockets and light missiles, rockets have less range and do less damage individually, but have a much faster ROF (which more than makes up for the damage) and are much harder to avoid.

I didnt know missles were affected by those skills... i dont even have those two. So rockets have a higher rate of fire thats good to know. What is there optimal range? also they load out in standard missle launchers correct?

A rule of thumb that will serve you well as a new player is never train a skill to level V unless you need it for something specific.
By the time you'll actually find these dead end V's useful you'll know enough to make the right choices about which ones you train.
Another little nugget which I wish someone explained to me: Level is your current progress through the skill, from I to V Rank is the training time multiplier, rank 5 takes 5 times longer than rank 1 to train the same Level.

Rocket launchers fire Rockets, they have a high rate of fire and very short range. Missile launchers fire standard missiles. They fly further and have a higher payload, but are slower firing.

I'd seriously recommend getting a tool like EVE Character Manager from Future Falcon. With it I can make my long term plans and see how long it will take to get into a certain ship or train certain skills. I'd also recommend getting those learning skills behind, at least up to advanced level 4. With ECM's calculations, they take two months to complete but easily shrug off weeks of training time a few months down the line. Any long term player should consider getting them done asap.

i definatly want to train up the learning skills at least to three because i want to take my fighting and EW skills up to lvl 4 as soon as possible. I'm already tired of flying around in high sec space and my ship is insured and i have a up to date clone so i want to go out and die or kill whoever is out there that tries to kill me. I'm curious to see what its like being in just the pod. When i get off work today im going to see if you can abandon your ship to your pod just so i can see what its all about

Just go to an astroid belt in a shuttle (in < 0.8 space), you'll be in a pod in no time :P

no way to abandon a shuttle straight away? rather than put myself in a kill zone like that... will npcs pod kill you if they get a chance ?

my problem is that i prolly wont let myself get killed by a group of crappy npcs... when missles start flying at me i tend to unleash everything i have and ask questions later. Nothing like target jamming the ****er's. But i really would like to see the pod

NPCs never pod, and if you want to get your pod out of your ship you can just 'eject' or 'self destruct' neither which hurts you in any way other than obviously destruct blows up your ship (which is fun).

Being in a pod is nothing special, and if you stick with the game and ever plan to leave 0.5 and above space, you will be in a pod. Believe me, it loses it novelty quite quickly, especially when you start buying ships that are over 1mil isk and your fitting on the ship cost more than the ship. Whenever I lose my Brutix (insured for 27mil), the death always puts me behind over 20mil isk. It costs 25-27 mil for the ship, 8.1 mil for the platinum insurance, and my low slots (t2 repper, t2 steel plate, 2x t2 energized adaptive nanos, t2 energized reactive plate) cost between 12 and 15 million, depending on market availability. Then I have to buy more drones, ammo, 4 mid slots and 7x high slots worth of gear....
Again I say, being in a pod very quickly loses its novelty.

Well it isnt that i want to be in the pod ever, but i want to know what to do in the situation that i get put in a pod. Dont want to get podded and I want to make sure I can move quickly when i lose a ship. Last night i almost made it to the pod... fifty baagillion NPCs almost took me out on the " when worlds collide " mission. Luckily I warped out...

if you ever get your ship blown up by a player, don't hesitate to look at the pretty and physcially impossible explosion, just find the nearest planet, station, whatever and get away. think about your destination when you are in warp.
what i do is that i've always listed overview after range, so that if i find the need i can always warp to the nearest location.
ppl won't hesitate to kill a pod if they see one.
