A friend and corpmate of mine made the trip down to Carrou, a .4 system, in order to do a little bit of mining in order to fund some new things. There he was engaged by three members of Darkside Inc. Two of them were in Covert Ops ships for sure, the other was just cruising around in a rifter.
They got my friend trapped in a station, so he radiod home base for a little bit of help. I hopped in my frigate and rounded up a few of the boys to head down there and chase those nasty pirates off. Our intial expeditionary force consisted of my Rifter, two Feroxs, and a Dominix. Just as we were about to enter the system a Navy Raven and his friend in a Kestrel showed up, we added the both of them to our gang. We were either going to chase these bastards off or burn them to the ground.
Off we went through the gate, as soon as we came out of the jump we began the process of securing the immediate area. We were aware that two of them were flying Covert Ops ships so myself and the Kestrel began flying wide and short orbits around the gate, hoping to get lucky and force them to uncloak, while the Dominix and one of the Feroxs began scanning. The Raven took off into a belt and there he found one of the Covert Ops ships and the Rifter, he ordered us to jump in on him immediately.
No sooner had we arrived did the Covert Ops ship cloak and the Rifter run, in local they started the smack talking, trying to make fun of us because of "unfair" odds and ganging up on them, but we gave no response. We continued our search.
Two of our pilots docked at the only stations, there they found one of the Covert Ops pilots docked, the other one had just left local. The Rifter was still out there somewhere. We all warped to our safespot while the Raven continued scanning, we found the Rifter in another belt. Off we went again, this time he was roughly 150km out, none of us could catch him that way, so we used an absolutely brilliant tactic. One of our ships jumped to the moon behind him, then warped back to the belt 100km out, almost in range. Our Dominix did the same and came in just on top of the pirate, he locked and engaged. He landed just a couple of hits before the pirate warped off, leaving us with a pretty good feeling. Not only did we clear the system of those ganking pirates, but we also managed to cause the pirates to smack. It was excellent.

Oops, my mistake, it wasn't a Dominix it was Brutix with us. And the point of the post was not critisizing the pirates for their fear of engaging us, but because of the hilariously hypocritical excuse that they used for NOT engaging us, that there were unfair terms, yet they had no trouble engaging a miner with a cloaking cruiser, a T2 cov. ops ship, and their rifter.

Btw, welcome to eve, world of EW, WCS and ganks. You won't get fight unless they have like x2 numbers(at lest).

Ah yes, Darkside really does consist of a bunch of wannabe pirates, trying to keep their sec above -1.9
I had an alt go there in an executioner, and it was killing an NPC BC when their CEO warped in, in a HAC, killed me in short order and ran.
Ok, so that was fairly pointless. I evemailed him and asked him how long he will need to rat to get his sec back up, and he said that since he has access to 0.0 he can do it in 1 evening. I congradulated him and went on my way.

and 2 frigs, 2 BCs and 2BSs is kinda unfair in real battle. Hit'n run is something they use alot But i would have runned too if i was i a frig with 4 big ships after me. Only nawbs would stay and fight in a situation like that..

I've met these guys, I used to think they were clunks but they're not too bad and are good for a laugh.
Pirates do pick on weaker targets - that's what piracy is.
You can't blame Darkside for docking in this instance, they took the best course of action, as did the OPs friend.

Quote of teh year, that made me laugh soo much.
The absolutly brilliant tactic of seeing where someone warped from with the devastatingly difficult task of lining belt, Rifter and a third object up and then using the 'Warp to at 100km' option on your second warp. Sheer genius.
Can I also suggest the absolutely brilliant tactic of fiting modules? There are so many unknown / usused tactics in EVE it's unbelieveable. I heard that people are actullay fitting ammo to turrets now-a-days. Inconceivable!

I think the OP should have used the incredible tactic of not starting this thread. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

why didn't your mining friend just jump the a gate and leave i don't see how a rifter and 2 cover op are gonna tank sentries
plus of course they ran you blobed them as was said before. and its not hypocrisy its piracy. pirates kill for profit. you kill when you can win and ranson when ppl pay. other then that you don't fight loosing battles as this is not economycly intelegent
only reason a pirate will fight on = grouds: its a ship he can afford to loose and he just wants a good fight. Otherwise piracy will not make you any isks

Fear my my mighty rifter :) a pirate has to be an oppurtunist to survive, and thats right, that is how we make isk. Also what do u expect being in low sec? It would be rude of us not to have a welcoming party. Can i also add that the smack talking did not come from use but by the obvious prepubescent wannabe gankers, who run the belts and have no clue of how to be a profficient scanner operator :)
If you want to survive then you dont run in blind :)
