Why were you afk in space? That's a serious infraction of the Code, there, mate.

Op, if you play fullscreen, floating at the docking ring will happen once and a while. As mentioned, try window mode.
P.S. With a huge ISBoxer mining fleet, reading the forums, and maybe watching a movie at the same time, window mode is the only way to fly baby.

So this actually is one of the most annoying things that ever happened to me.
On one side I was quite happy about it, because sometimes it let me shoot pods of pilots who believed they'll dock up ... otoh, it got myself killed too. hahaha. xD
But seriously, before knowing that I too assumed that clicking DOCK means that my ship will DOCK even when I alttab away ... but NOOOOO.
Aaaaand this actually got fixed a year ago ... or two.
So ... petition or bug report. |

While I support the hard work of an honest businessman, I would appreciate it if you avoided charging people for contacting New Order agents. Code enforcement is done out of the goodness of our hearts; mixing in additional fees discourages compliance and is counterproductive to our goals. I've never experienced this issue specifically from alt+tabbing. Maybe what you're experiencing is that sometimes when you warp to station, you land 2km outside of docking range. Only thing you can do about that is:
1) Create a bookmark that's well within station's docking ring 2) Tell ship to warp to bookmark 3) Set station as your destination 4) Turn on autopilot
When the ship lands the autopilot will give the dock command. Nolen's Spreadsheet Guru Services: Need a spreadsheet created, maintained, updated or repaired? Learn more about my services at:-á https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3865379 |

actually windowed mode doesn't help.
I often move 2 chars at the time using 2 clients in windowed mode. No autopilot, manually jump&warp&jump&warp....
And after some time it becomes very clear: client you have active more often moves faster. Let's say one of chars reached gates and started to execute jump. you switch to other window, where ship reaches gates, jumps, then you can press 'warp' and switched to another client still find him exiting from system-to-system jump. It doesn't happen every time but often enough to take attention.
And yes, both of them are frigates. However it should not matter when operation is 'jump'? The Mittani: "the inappropriate drunked joke"

It's something to do with it losing it's graphics context. That doesn't happen in window mode if it doesn't get minimized, so play window mode and alt tab, but don't minimize and you'll be fine. In full screen, when you alt tab it effectively minimizes. You can see when this happens, as the screen will freeze or go blank when you first go back to the client for a second then appear. That's it resetting itself (effectively).
Be aware though, if you click dock then you lock your PC this will also cause you to fail to dock, windowed mode or not. The Indecisive Noob - A new EVE Fan Blog for news and stuff. Wholesale Trading - The new bulk trading mailing list. |

We gankers are also busy people, for your information. So many Evil miners, so little time... Your actions cause a butterfly effect. Here let me explain.
Your boredom derives you to Alt-Tab which tingles our "ganker senses". That tingle tells us that you aren't playing the game which you should be playing. Knowing this fact causes a chemical reaction in a gankers mind which leads to an unstoppable urge to fit a catalyst and blow you back to your medical clone station. Concord guys slack off as always and arrive late to the party. Foregone conclusion occurs. We warp our pods to safety. The ganker senses have 15 min cooldown to be triggered again. This is like a never ending process.

So what you're saying is that your tactics reflect the safety of your environment and you adapt to keep yourself safe? Me too.

Not sure if OP is saying what I think he is saying.
An example. Two accounts with a pilot in each account being played at the same time. Both pilots are in space. You go to one pilot and order him to dock in a station. You press alt key and switch to the other pilot, order him to dock at a station, and stay watching that pilot. If you don't alt tab to the first pilot then they will not dock.
If the OP meant this then the game has been like this for all the years I have played EVE Online. I just presumed it was meant to be like that as others have said. |

Confirming this is highly annoying when it happens. Also, "file a bug report," really? The number of people who mention this occuring should be a clear indication that there is a bug. Also it's easy to replicate... Enter system, pick station, click dock, alt-tab, come back later. Hell, it even happens sometimes if you alt-tab back to the client before you've finished your warp.
Edit:

It was supposedly fixed at some point, I believe it was shortly after they made the "Jump" and "Dock" buttons warp and then complete the action (or supposed to.) |

This is a well known issue that has been around for well over a year and has been bug reported multiple times and produced multiple threads in issues and workarounds.
I have reported this bug myself with a full logserver report, screenshots ect.
at the time I reported it, it was being investigated by ccp yitterburn.

While you are at it, could you please also fix the "warp to zero isn't always warp to zero" bug? I mean, sure, you can work around it with bookmarks, but wasn't "warp to zero" introduced so that people didn't have to create tons of bookmarks for this? |

This is nothing new, so you are never docked until you see the station load. =p
I think it has a higher chance of occurring if it is one of those stations where the warp station lands you outside the docking ring then the ship may or may not continue on to the docking procedure.
Best to use a warp to bookmark that lands you inside of the docking ring and once you arrive dock up. Senex Legio |
