Excuse the ignorance, I don't read these forums often and did a quick 3 page search but didn't find any info on this. Is CCP making EVE playable on mobile devices? I ask this because of the comment from kieron in the E3 Devblog
"The devices we were supposed to get for the EVE Mobile demonstration got stuck in transit and won't arrive in time."
He also refers to a mobile device, a GSM phone, in addition to the servers. Is this just for the demo they're running at the show, or are they actually planning a mobile version of EVE?

Supposedly, a cut-down, routine things management-only version of the client for mobile devices is in the works. Maybe you would be able to chat as well, I'm not sure. --

Cool, thanks for the info. I'd been hoping for this since the beta days. At least a web interface that would let you chat in an IRC fashion, but this is even a step better.

Currently just Windows Mobile. Let me tell you, it's really cool to check your evemail, market orders and skill training from a PDA. It feels so Jack Bauer.

Edited by: Hydrian Alante on 10/05/2006 15:15:19 Will this be restricted to Windows Mobile 5.0 PDAs/Smartphones?
I use a HTC Blue Angel Device, which is sold under many different names all around the world. This Smartphone is WiFi enabled and it would be perfect for EvE mobile. But the HTC Blue Angel is only equipped with Windows Mobile 2003 SE.

booooo windows :(
i've got a Samsung i500 (PalmOS), and i'd love to just be able to even chat in EVE on it, anything else would be just gravy. i'm sick enough of windows on my computers, i don't want it on my phone too :P __________________

I'd prefer a Python or Java based client because it would be independent of the OS used on the mobile device. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

It's much more difficult to port code to PalmOS than it is to Windows. At least Visual Studio can cut-and-paste code from a Windows .NET app to a WindowsCE .NET app. So yeah, it's a shame, but an understandable one to be honest.
Jack Bauer... I bet Oveur is walking around with a bluetooth headset now. *cringe* But yeah, I advise you to take hostages from the Sony stand, looking at the size of the place on the floorplan you wouldn't be found for days!

Yeah, it would run equally badly on everything
I'd be less interested in running eve (or anything else ) on a PDA or hyperexpensive phone, and more interested in having a light client that can run through port 80 so as to play eve on crap computers on crippled networks.
Edit: Almost forgot, Palm OS FTW! ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin

I think you can change the port to 80 in the prefs.ini. There was an explanation how to do this i nthe workaround forum somewhere. Just don't get caught by your admin/boss/whatever who prevents you from using port 26000 for connecting. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. Halldor installed the EVE Mobile client on my MDA (GSM/cell with WinMobile5) and it looks sharp. Waiting for a mirror of my work and play accounts so I can demo with real information, not a newbie character on a demo account. Unfortunately, no port over to TQ yet, so the changes made on EVE Mobile won't propagate to TQ, but it looks damn cool!
I'll try to get some pictures and upload them. Might have to bribe Alli to show me how to upload the images to the home site.

Eve mobile really got me excited until I found it was WM5 only. This would have been hugely more useful to so many more people if it were web or Java based

Probably cause it would take alot more work. I'm sure the gfx are going to be quite good, but all you can do is sit in a station.
I for one cannot wait. Since I have my pda with me everywhere and I always forget to change skills this is going to be a life saver.
I can also now play eve on the toilet instead of jawbreaker :) -=====-
