i was kinda bored.. so i decided to work out how many sp you'd have it you had every skill at lvl 5. its a total of 350,720,000. if you train on average of 2000sp/hr.. it will take you about 20 years.
my speadsheet can be found here. http://members.iinet.net.au/~yeders/data/total_skills.xls
thats pretty freakin scary. Sangheili Thundercats.

Within 20 years we will have plenty of new skills to train, further pushing back the maximum theorical amount of skill points.

I can well believe it.
One part of me knows that people will never need to train up all the skills (who needs 4 titans?)
On the other hand, I think stats like these indicate that CCP should hold back a tad and think about introducing new content without throwing a skill in with it every time.

That reminds me of WoW. Strange, eh?
Its fun to read their forums though... still the exact same issues as when the game started.

Ya gotta remember thour Deja, usuaually to train most newer items up only takes a few thousand SP at most to lvl 1, its the advanced stuff that takes forever...
Anyhow I know its all part of CCPs plot to take all my money by forcing me to spend 1month training Industrial V alone..... AHHHH I want that blockade runner!

Umm, new stuff I've trained.
Recon ships, tech 2 battlecruisers and interdictors.
All of those ships have insane pre-requisites. Not many "quick level 1's" in there when I was trying to access the new content.
(Please dont be trite and say "you only needed command ships level 1")

I also think tech 2 weapons have very high skill requirements and penalties for no good reason really, but thats another thread i guess.

TII stuff is meant to have high skill levels or noobs would be flying around with the same stuff as older players.

Yar tis around 19.4 years, no one will ever acheive it even if ccp stopped adding skills as the shelf life of a game like this is less than 10 years. They way I look at it the skill system was setup so people didn't have to grind, but also at the same time it created the issue that people wouldn't team work if they could do skills solo without having to put large ammounts of time in. Simple solution to this was hike skill training times up to force people to specialise and therefore have to team work to cover all bases. Though it works in some respects it has bad effects in other aspects. Ie no visible cap.

I'd prefer they keep adding skills for new types of ships and equipment, and other stuff like mini-professions. The more people's skills diversify, the better the game will be. It creates alliances, dependencies, just like real life really...

Just Think, When the game first was out CCP annouced that it would take 5 years to train all the skills to level 5, Which was still a long time them
all the new skils changed that quickly

Yup, they've got the Enzo - and not pasted it through any telegraph poles at 170mph along Santa Monica Boulevard...
Unlike other games developers I could name...

I didn't check his actual figures, but 20 years, give or take, is a good estimate of the total time it'd take with the current skill set.
There are currently 312 skills that anyone can get in-game. I really don't feel like adding up all the ranks right now. ---
280 of 312 skills trained. |

Edited by: Flipidy Floo on 11/05/2006 07:22:46 Edited by: Flipidy Floo on 11/05/2006 07:17:43 Don't forget though, that Some of those skills are race specific, or virtually unneed like corp management, titans, diff gun classes etc, so really there's probably only about 100mil in usable skills for the average player.
Like for me, I'm predomantly a smaller ship class user, so BS 5 across the board isn't a concern for me. A long with the turrets for them, etc.
Also, don't forget that most new players try to create characters with attributes high in respective areas of training. Miners get lots of Memory, Fighters lots of Perception. That cuts down training by a ton.
