So what are the mines used for?
How are they launched?
How can they be used?
If they aren't useable then why are they stillsitting around in the game?
I have played other space and combat games, and mines can be used in a variety of ways. Perhaps the best is as a boobytrap for an unsuspecting nitwit who finds your can sitting out in a belt and thinks that it's an easy mark. Or on a frigate or other ship, just drop it out the back end and wait for the idiot chasing you to either run into it or have it detonate as soon as they get close enough and then KABLOOEY, no more shields.
So what are they good for in EVE? "You can choose to swim in the pool or go swim in the ocean." |

Not usable.
CCP is too lazy to take the BPO/Items out.
CCP took em out, because people would use em to lag people out upon jumping in. ------------------------------

That's a pity. I can imagine them being useful for POS defense.

Edited by: madaluap on 11/05/2006 09:22:29 yes imo they should give them higher dmg and make them cloacked for enemy/neutral, but you can see them in gang/corp.
they only detonate when a enemy/neutral flies past them.
to solve the lag issue and make them usable: -range+falloff dmg -higher dmg -relativly expensive to build (200 k) -launches from special craft with rof
special craft needs to be on the scene for them to work, else you can exploit it. _________________________________________________

Or, as in the old dev blog, make them deployable and configurable equipment. (Think Secure Cargo Can.)
And yes, they shouldn't be dumb proximity charges. Drones are advanced mines - Gallente realized that having them blow up wasn't quite as fun as fitting them with blasters and a better propulsion system. New sig coming soonÖ Drone musing (MC-boards) |

People would abuse them, i remember people sticking them in high sec out at about 250km range from a station where all the npc haulers just randomly went, they used to drop top notch loot aswell... apparently.
But yea there a mod\ammo that would always get totally abuse and just give CCP and players a headache, theres already so much in eve to think about.

Make the expensive, and configurable, and give them a homing system.
Tehy need to be 3 size, small, med, large, like guns.
You deploy them, anything get n their proximity ~ 20 km, they home on the target.. you will need 10 - 20 L to kill a BS
They could cost up to 500k mill or even more to manufacture... - POST WITH YOUR MAIN!
This post is my personal opinion. It does not represent the standpoint of the HUN Corporation in any way. - |

They couldn't possibly lag more than the 30 trillion secure cans sitting around.

I imagine at the time they were abused, CCP didn't have the code in the game yet to limit anchorables by sec status. If you look at the attributes on Moon Harvesting Arrays, you'll see an attribute called "anchoringsecuirtylevelmax", which is set to 0.4. So moon harvesters can't be anchored in >0.4 sec. No reason the same couldn't be done for mines if they were ever re-released. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

I think my suggestion for mines would be to have them deploy like an Warp Scrambling Bubble.
Allow them only in 0.0 and have them deploy the entire field rather than each mine. Put an expiry on them so that they either have to be relaid or you get no minefield. Also, I would picture them having a launcher with the Minefield charges, and the charges like other ammunition are spent when deployed. I'm unsure if you should be able to tear them down yourself, the theory being tampering with the explosives is bad mojo, although I'm sure it could be worked out to have deminers too, and would probably be a good idea depending on the life expectancy of a deployed minefield.
Even if they only cost as much as say Cap Booster 800s, give them a deploy time like a warp bubble, with a limited half life. -------------- Porter Hadlend Pround Member of The Shattered Star Confederation Gaming better since 1997. |
