Okay, so before right this second, my Harpy setup was/is this:
4 x 125mm Railgun II 1 x Limos Standard Launcher
1 x 1MN Afterburner II 1 x Small Shield Booster II 1 x 20km Warp Disruptor (Named) 1 x Small Electrochemical Cap Booster
1 x Tracking Enhancer II 1 x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II.
I find the cap booster is great, helps immensely, although the charges take alot of cargo, currently I get a 14km optimal with Antimatter, I track well enough, and a 57km optimal with Spike.
Now, the problem lies within my Cap and my shields. The reason I dont have a EM hardener on here is due to the cap drain. Its nasty. And, before now, it was only 50%.
Heres the main beef of the topic.
If I have EM Shield Compensation at level 4, say, and a Tech 2 Active Shield EM Hardener on there, what kinda resistance am I going to get? And will it present a problem when using an AB, then the scram, guns, and Hardener?
Can anyone give me some advice about this, because without EM resistances the Harpy is just a tech one frigate with some extra shield...
Thanks for any advice, also, new setups are welcome!
PS. Is it me, or did the Ships Setup thread change?

edit: fyi, em/kin/etc shield compensations don't boost an active hardener when it's turned on

Then wouldnt a passive hardener with level 4 Comp skills be better? Gah, was hoping the Comp. skills would at least help it.. :/

the skill works differently for active and passive hardeners (just to make things complicated).
For an active hardener turned on, it does nothing For an active hardener turned off, it gives does Skill level * 3 resistance.
For a passive hardener, it gives passive amount * (1 + 0.05 * skill level). the only way you'll get a passive hardener better than a t1/t2 active hardener is to use faction passive hardeners.
edit: an example for passive
assuming skill level 4
final = 32.5 (base passive hardener stats) * (1 + 0.05 * 4) final = 32.5 * (1 + 0.2) final = 32.5 * 1.2 final = 39

i think training EM comp 5 will get you a hair under 50% EM using the t2 magnetic scatt amp.. its the only passive skill worth training for shield tanks so i'd take it to 5 or at least 4
the rest are garbage, shield tanks dont get the kind of passive mods that armor tanks get thus they benefit greatly from those skills, we dont ------ FPDOMS MINER KILLBOARD |

Afaik faction passive amps aren't very expensive.

You could always put a nice damage control in one of your lows too, that helps.

i have lvl 3 EM shield comp and i use a t2 mag field amp (Passive em hardner) and i get about 40 natural resist, which is not fantastic, but considering it was 0 and i use no cap and only one midslot to get to 40 its pretty damn good (considering other natural resists)
on my harpy i use 4x 150mm t2 nothing atm (need to train adv weap upgrades for some more grid)
1x1MN ab II 1x t2 em passive hardner 1x 2nd best named web 1x small t2 shield booster
lows 2x pdu 2 (if im worried about me dying) or 2x mag stab (if im worried about me dying first)
