Damn, and the interviewer escaped with his life! He wanted a 'ham it up' picture and he got one.
A bunch of nice guys over there. I was glad they stopped by for the chat.

I dont mean to be rude, but arent us players also nice guys? Why is it that these sites keep getting information about things being planned in eve, but us players doesnt?
I just feel we have to scout around all these other sites to get snippets of info since the dev blogs doesnt have nearly as much details about the things going on.

Edit: typos
E3 is a huge PR machine and Eve is now mature enough to support a higher number of players than before. CCP stated a number of times that this E3 was very important to them, more so than any of the others.
The press likes to get exclusivity on stuff - after all, that's how they make a living. If us players knew about stuff beforehand, it wouldn't be a SuchAndSuch.com breaking news anymore, the press wouldn't be interested and Eve wouldn't get as much press coverage. Less press is not a good thing.
I don't like this any more than you do, but press coverage brings in new subscribers. Yes, I hear you say, "but we also do a lot of word to mouth, I brought in my RL friends". And that is true. But the numbers work out differently - a good news item probably brings in more people. And you still get your buddies in, regardless of whether you've seen the new Amarr battlecruiser or not, because there is already so much stuff that you can get them excited about.
More press means more people means more cash, and that means spiffeh hardware and ongoing expansions to boot.
So, on the short term, the players get shafted on the news, but on the long term, we get more in-game goodies. I wouldn't prefer this the other way around - there is too much vaporware out there as it is. .

Yeah, you are probably right...at least i better understand the lack of news when putting things into that perspective.

Quote: we are focusing on giving the player a wide range of new opportunities and letting them do things, more things, to control space. They can put up sentry guns and say, "This is our space and nobody else is going to come into it and we are going to run it how we want to" basically giving players the ability to set up their own empires.

Something that caught my attention, I've never heard of this before, or is it a vaugue comment on POS systems?

Lov the style of the booth, eve is the "bang & olufsen" of MMO's.
Im interested in eve continuing for many years, i try and get people interested amoung my gaming friends. The recurring question is "Ahhhh but its 3 years old, there is no chance for players starting now". I try to explain that actually the veterans in eve while having more skill points only equates to being more versatile, a new player can get competitive in about 6months (if consentrating on one ship, a veteran has the ability to be competitive in many). That explaination is acceptable for most i speak to. I admit that its stretching the truth.
Maybe CCP do emphasise this, but i think it could be done a little more. Will probably be more important in the future.

Maybe I haven't been looking at enough sites, but it seems that a lot of your E3 coverage has been "There were these cool icelandic guys near the Nintendo/Sony areas that had a Bar and a place to sit down! I think they were plugging some sort of pretty MMO."
Then again, I bet that helps you quite a bit with the press. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

To be fair, i dont think "E3 Coverage" was really intended. It was just a blog with personal comments by the devs from their experiences on E3.

Whos that beardy geezer out there? Tomb? lol Anyway nice lil interview you got there. This part was especially interesting "more things, to control space. They can put up sentry guns and say, This is our space and nobody else is going to come into it and we are going to run it how we want to basically giving players the ability to set up their own empires."
Sentryguns to 0.0? Well that helps alliances alot so they dont have to camp near gates to keep systems secure. --------

Bad perspective on the photograph. The bottles and the bartender are both normal size. She made a mean Bloody Mary!

Not that this particular interview was filled with any real news, but the article on mmorpg was quite detailed and had lots of information that was new to me. Like kali being released in 3 parts and features being delayed for a year or so.
CCP Loves us Jim! You know that, I know that. Well. maybe they dont like BOB, but thats just to be expected
Expo 2006 is just a huge PR fair. and everyone who attends usually saves a "ZOMG Breaking News!!!" Article for such happendings. After all, if they had given it to us players first, it would have been "old news". and you dont show up at Expo 2006 with old news
CCP are my stars tho: A bar with the stand has to be perfect!!

Yep, i guess i can understand that. But even now after E3, devs are not commenting on the multiple threads on Kali. Why is this?

i first saw eve on "electric playground" in 2003 when they were interviewing someone from ccp at E3 2003.
ccp should save big news for big events and not trickle them out to forum hounds.
the interview is cool enough.

Originally by: CCP Hammer Guys, stop stressing out over news from E3. This stuff was all news to me as well.
It may be, but the news that we are getting shouldn't come from 3rd parties.
It should go like this.
-New feature/stuff for eve is descided on at CCP. -Those that work at CCP and need/want to know this find out. -The info is given to the forum mods( the volenteers) so they know the REAL info, so they can correct the Tin Foil Hat Brigades(TFHB) posts about the sky falling and such. -An announcement with FULL DETAILS should be put on the eve website that is only accessable by eve customers. -THEN the info should be made available to outside/3rd party sources.
this is like me finding out from a friend that my wife has a new job. Or that my Sister died, and learning it from a co-worker.
Stuff like this should be announced in the family first.
The whole screw up with the VOIP is an excellent example. Did anyone at CCP poll the player base on if this was even wanted? Doesn't seem like it. I'd rather have a GUI/keyboard shortcut update to this damned "Premium service" Voip crap.
Small PvE/PvP Corp looking for Members. 2-10Mill SP. Click for details.

Apparently people have forgotten that the Las Vegas meet ever happened. We've known about 0.0 sentries for months, guys.
CCP is still ridiculously honest and open compared to just about all other MMO companies out there. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?
