Recently, a friend of mine had a member of his corporation steal everything out of the corp hangar. After a bit of finger pointing, they were able to sort out which player had done it. A few days later, my friend was logged into the thief's account. He claimed that CCP had handed over the information to the account.
What gets me is - can CCP really do that? When I signed up I agreed to a privacy policy, and I'd hate to find out that everytime I irritate another player I'm risking having my account given away.

Would never happen. Corp thief is a valid profession in Eve. CCP would never, ever give out details of someones account.
You friend is the same person as corp thief, or else he has broken EULA rules and could end up banned for hacking into an account/ using someone elses account or that account would ge t banned. Its a right tin'o'worms..

As Olsen'Kra said, your friend either broke into the account or he is the thief that used an alt to steal everything. I'd hope he is the thief for your friend's sake, could end up losing his account if he *****ed into anothers. ___________________

CCP will NEVER EVER give out such info. Its just a really weak aliby. My advice is to invite him out to a rat hunting op in a complex for example then pod him before booting him. YARRR HAHAHA im the happy pirate YARRRR

Thanks for all the info guys. I knew it sounded odd. Any suggestions on how I can have CCP check on the subject, or should I just write up a petition?

Petition the person who supposedly got the info on anothers account.

how do you know it wasnt just the thief pretending he was your corp mate using the thiefs acount just to stir up a hornets nest?
unless you where talking to him on TS or something it could have been Elvis controlling that toon and you wouldnt have a clue.

LoL. First of all, Elvis is the king, he doesn't need to steal tritanium. ;) Second, my friend was the CEO of the corporation that got jacked. I just don't see why he would create an alt account to steal everything that pretty much already belonged to him. He said that he had all of his BPOs, ores, minerals, etc (basically everything he needed to continue his building business) in the corp hangar, and that's the stuff that disappeared. Although, I really wouldn't put it past him to claim the stuff to be stolen just to have a reason to complain about something. Either way, I'll file the petition. Worst thing that can happen is CCP laughs at me. ;)
Cheers everyone.

Most people look rather poorly at a CEO who takes everything from the corp, even if all of it was his originally. Pretty easy to steal it all with an alt and go "" with your CEO character all day in corp chat how you got robbed.
Hey, that would be pretty profitable. Lure a bunch of players in a corp, ask for donations, get an alt to join and give him hangar and ISK rights and take everything with the alt.
You know, just a thought to keep you up at night when you donate that ten million ISK to the corp. ___________________

I believed him because he's still a director in that specific corporation.... I dunno about you, but if someone stole a bunch of loot out of my corp's hangar, they'd be kicked asap.

yeah, 24 hrs after having rights removed.
If his rights werent removed, suggests he wasnt a real thief and CCP didnt give the info out as suggested, but that it was said CEO all along...

If someone did do this, their job is at stake. There are a lot of things that CCP considers invaluable assets, account information is close to the top of that list. Only under the most extreme of circumstances will account information be given to a third party, and only in cases where there is airtight justification for doing so. Account information is never given to a third party in a case of corp theft.
I hope this puts your fears at ease.

Thank you, Kieron. That does make me feel much better about my privacy.
As far as the whole debacle, I don't know the whole story and I imagine that the only two who really do know the whole story are the thief and the CEO. I am not a member of their corporation so none of this affected me personally. What I do know is that if this CEO did aquire the account information illegally I really want nothing to do with him for fear of my own account. And if he's lying and was the thief all along, it was very shady of him to steal from his own corporation. I guess we'll leave it all to CCP to sort out. Thanks everyone.

I seriously doubt that any one volunteering for CCP would be privvy to any account information. That would be a very serious security issue and just isnt fathomable.

Developers and Game Masters voluntering to work fulltime for a MMO? Ofcourse..i whould it in a moments notice. My money to keep myself alive comes from social security! (/sarcasm). But to be serius, the only volunteers CCP has (That i know of that is) are members from the ISD. And i doubt that the moderators have access to accountnames and passwords. Characternames and maybe the linking accountnames, but not passwords. It whould be to great of a security risk

Did you even read any of the posts in this thread apart from Kierons? The only volunteers are ISD and they don't get access to account or corp information.

10.2 What kinds of things do ISD volunteers do?
There are several branches in the program and each has its own area of interest. These are player support, new player support, forum moderators, events and bug hunters.
-Support Team and Resources (STAR) is the branch for player support and new player support volunteers who focus their attention on the in-game Help Channel. Players are able to enter the channel and get quick answers to their questions about EVE. Though volunteer powers are extremely limited, they can perform simple tasks such as answering some low-level petitions, moving characters that are stuck (under certain circumstances) and providing information about current conditions in the game that may affect mobility or connectivity.

Uh, I'm starting to seriously worry about your ability to actually read. I've highlighted some parts of the passage you quoted but just to make sure I'll paste them again here:
"quick answers to their questions about EVE" "volunteer powers are extremely limited" "perform simple tasks" "answering some low-level petitions"
Volunteers CANNOT access your account login details, nor give them out, nor give out information about things like specific corp theft incidents.
However, if this still hasn't sunk in why don't you go and volunteer for ISD/STAR and see for yourself?
