So I have done some ratting in LS, and get that most of the isk you "make" there is from clone tags and bounties on BS sized rats....but I am looking at taking a shot at ratting in Null when I can.
Question I have is, does most of the isk generated from ratting in null, come from the bounties, or is it expected that one should be looting and, shutter, salvaging ?
Anything I should know before taking my carrier(j/k) to Null ? |

When I rat, the only wrecks I loot are faction spawns and the DED loot. The rest I find really isn't worth it unless you are in a secure or empty low traffic system.
Edit: Can you let me know when you do take your carrier out? Cheers!
Sounds like LS ratting, but turbo charged in the risk/isk department.
But carrier's are the standard ship right ? You will be the first to know! |

depends on what part of nullsec you want to rat in.
If it's player owned null, then expect doing 1-2 anoms and if someone will see on dscan that you have a carrier you will cloak and he will sit in system waiting for you. You have finished.
If it's npc null though, i would take a combat battlecruiser(talos, tornado, oracle) and start doing belts. You can clear anoms first (not in combat battlecruiser ofc) but they will most likely nor respawn in your system. deep null is good for this-0.6 -0.8 and lower |

The other form of ratting in quiet deep null is probing down exploration combat sites and running those in an Ishtar.
Use wormholes and an interceptor scout to get into and out of nullsec.
Profit there is 70% bounties, 30% the big drops (Vindicator BPCs, A-type/X-type mods, etc) Set the universe on fire - then sell the survivors ash. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. If you plan on doing some belt ratting, fit a warp scrambler to your ship. The officer/commander rats will sometimes warp out. |

I have killed bs belt rats with t1 cruiser. But in this case I only go after bs belt rats, I don't do belt spawns that are smaller than bs.
If you do anomalies, then you will need bigger ship. For bs rats in the belts, t1 cruiser is alright. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |

Depends on the player. I know people that religiously vacuum up every wreck for loot and salvage. If you build stuff, this is probably worth the effort. I don't have manufacturing skills, so I usually offer alliance-mates my wrecks when done with an anom. I just move on to the next batch of red crosses. I tend to rat at long range with a slow battleship, so I'm not chugging 50km in a Typhoon just to find Metal Scraps in a wreck.
Belt rats seem to drop better loot than anoms, and I use something faster there, like a T3, so being at closer range and in a faster ship, I may peek inside battleship wrecks. For regular loot, I take the 10mn and 100mn prop mods. Unlike many modules for PvP fits that all but demand T2- prop mods, ECM, etc, are often meta IV and sell directly on the market quite fast and at nearly the price of a T2 version.
PvE in null is exactly the same as everywhere else. The cheap-as-dirt Typhoon I commonly use would be essentially the same fitting as any L4 mission....over-tanked to the gills to be honest. The same easy-button ships apply. Sentry drone ships are FOTM, a plain ole Domi with T2 Sentries cake-walks 8/10 to 10/10 anoms. Ishtars are not only the hot ratting ticket, but are also thick as flies for PvP. An excellent choice of ships for doing more than one thing in Eve.
While you get the lay of the land in null sec, I suggest sticking to belts in a faster moving ship, less dependent on drones. The reason being that you are less likely to have a pack of scram frigs on you, with a room full of battleship DPS- when that Ceptor gang enters system. Having to putter over to a Sentry to pick it up is too slow when you're sitting in the middle of a pile of wrecks anyone can warp to, so you end up leaving a lot of drones behind. In something fast, with primary DPS coming from the ship itself (like a T3), you can just GTFO to a safe the instant you see local spike, and continue on once it's clear. Lastly- if you are looking to commute to do ratting, a battleship is a death sentence at gates, so the fast ships like T3's and HAC's are more appealing. If in NPC null where you can freely dock, the T3 is unbeatable, since you can fit it for almost perfectly safe travel, then refit for ratting when you are in/near your target system. They chew thru PvE, and are often as dangerous PvE-fit as for PvP.

i often just for ***** and giggles go out in a crusader and go system to system checking belts for true sansha. dosent pay very well most of the time but when it does go well its always fun saying to your friends, hey i made 100mil an hour in an interceptor.
as far as real ratting in null (combat anomalies) goes about 30-45% of the money is in loot and salvage. |

Never really thought about HAC's, but might just work for what I have in mind....
I plan on using WH's more then gates to accomplish my ratting as such, I will be in all sorts of null space. Planned on using T3's (or HAC's ?) to start ratting belts to get a feel for it and get my "feet wet" in the whole null swimming pool.
THanks to all for the pointers! HAve been great.
Also , most I hear or see is about people keeping distrance from the rats and kiting in Null, but I have found doing a close orbit for the stronger clones and BS's has had good results in removing the DPS (in LS anyway) is this not recomended in Null ? |

quite the opposite, you get say 50 mil from bounties, but few hundred from drop

You assume that your going to get the big payout every time though. In the end you end up with more isk from bounties then loot, especially if you are only looting faction spawns and the boss. At least is the case for me, because the loot farriers are never kind to me :(

i didn't assume anything. Even if you didn't get deadspace loot, overseer box for most plexes is worth more than all bounties combined. |
