After a bit of a discussion with some old eve players on how to improve some aspects of the game one thing has consistently risen to the top; the ability for the little people to take a slice of null without having to swear fealty to a larger force.
After pooling our collective experience and knowlege of how the game works in practice we all aknowleged that infact there is plenty of empty nullspace that is empty and easily exploitable by the solo player or small corp simply by sneaking in and staying hidden if the space owners turn up to see what your doing.
This is all well and good until it comes to the issue of where to base yourself. With most of the availible npc null saturated already its hard to find a place to sneak in and , using covert means, set up for a week or two and then move one.
If you deploy a POS then the owner of the space would know about it and send out a party to come push over your sandcastle :(
The very fact that the game automates scouting for hostile structures by way of eve mails is in my opinion broken
By removing these sov structure mails we could erect our pos and live out of it unnoticed untill the owner bothers to come and patrol his space and look for our little home. It forces the big guy to actually take some kind of action to hold his territory. ( with massive alliances having as many as thousands of players at thier disposal this shouldnt be a problem if people take the time to do so)
I beleive this small chance would bring back the feeling of trepidation of exploration that CCP hopes to deliver, and many of us crave for, without directly removing the ability for large groups who want to play nation states to have thier sov mechanic.
TLDR:
Remove Sov mails Make the sov holders work at managing thier space Give the smaller groups a chance in null.

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'Hodor'. |

The down right funniest thing about all of that you typed is that you seemed to say it in a way that suggested that NO ONE else has been brilliant enough to come up with this idea. Doc Fury's link to features and ideas was right on time as usual because the idea has been bandied about time and time again.
Here are some principles to remember:
Before suggesting a change, it is good practice to understand WHY a thing that you want changed works the way it does.
Before suggesting a change, you should honestly evaluate who would benefit from the change. Note, it's usually not the small guy (Malcanis' Law)
Before suggesting a change, take some time to look at it from another perspective. Ask yourself "how can I exploit this,
And lastly, before suggesting a change, use the damn search function lol.
SOV mails (for example) work the way they do because the systems in question belongs to someone who put time and effort into taking the space. Allowing just anyone to plop down a major structure (forcing the SOv holders into a constant hunt against people spamming POSes in their space) would lead to fewer people making the effort to take space.
like removing structure mails, removing sov mails hurts groups that don't have 24/7 player coverage while strengthening those (GOONS) that do. Where you shortsightedly see it as a way to help the 'small' guy, in reality it just means the big guys would have automatic staging POSes lying around everywhere and could bog down the small guy with endless structure grinds.
Malcanis' law is a *****.
There are already ways to do what you want. Anchorable cans. mobile Depots. Cloaked Cargo expanded Carriers filled with ammo carrying industrials. Rorqs, Tech3 fleets ect ect. Use those before suggesting changes you didn't think out well enough. |
