I am disappointed with this patch. The issue with Deimos lacking speed and PG is still being ignored. Decreasing the PG-Requirements of Neutron Blasters did not help a ship that has not enough PG to fit Ions and a needed MWD. So we now have a HAC that has been build for Blasters but cannot use any, with the exception of Electrons.
Increasing the Sig-Radius of AF was also not a really good Idea. Now Intys are even more "Uber".

Originally by: Nyabinghi Has anyone noticed any problems with distances? I dont know if it's a graphical bug or something awry in the coding but I noticed during a mission that I was repeatedly told I was out of range for webber, nos, though I was practically on top of the other ships with my distance reading around 1-2K. Weapon range hits seemed off, I tried to accelerate towards one rat and my distance reader climbed up the other way. Distances seemed all off every which way. Is it worth filling a bug report?
That's a lag thing, I believe.

My Drones are still beating up on gang mates, even tho all they did was transfer some energy to me.
I know you said no negative posts , I hae to assume you do not want to be surrounded by fan children, but did you even test this?
I actually think its worse now, I will take another 4 hr DT roll it back

The Font is better. I can now play at 2048x1536 (or thereabouts) and stand a chance of reading stuff :D last font was abit sore on the eyes and had to drop to 1600x1200.

Issues I have recognised:
- Text spacing, having a full line space between each line of text.
- Gang invites are still bugged, sending an invite that is refused (Receiver rejecting due to gate jump activation) results in the invitee to not re-send an invite, menu shows person as in gang, but if you try to kick member so you can re-gang him, a message is displayed saying member is not in the gang
- Dragging modules from can to cargo in space - When I drag loot from cans to my cargo icon, if I am too quick, the icons for the loot do not go into my cargo and the icon is stuck in space, meaning it is neither in the can or in my cargo. I just have the ghosted icon displayed and I can get rid of it.

IMHO, the new font is okay-ish in larger sizes (and takes up slightly less space as the old one then), but quite unusable when used in small and condensed mode - even at 1024x768, it's just too small. Condensed+small at low resolution was way better with the old font.
Annoyingly, even in the small size, the bold version of the new font is readable, so it seems it's just too thin.
Another vote for no-more-touching-the-font. There's a reason that good fonts are expensive and/or have a long history, and it's that font design is a craft that needs lots of knowledge and practice.
I've also noticed that text is clipped instead of wrapped with the new font at some places, for example in the character selection screen.

Actually they are links, they just aren't underlined. Try clicking them.
Other than the chat window bugs I haven't noticed any new problems and I have noticed a few things that were fixed. Seems like a pretty successful patch to me.

Edited by: blacknight9 on 24/05/2006 10:56:51 Seems like the deployment of the new patch brought also on his feature list "a bunch of whinners". Stop whinning so much. Nobody is forcing u to play the game.
Every time that something is done that was not in the patch release fixes, u go all to blame CCP for screwing the game.
And probably this is the reason that they didn't tell us before about the font(cause they already knew that is gonna be some flame posts and threads). This game is also about adaption. So stop moaning the old fonts and enjoy the new ones rather than flamming.

Ok here is my patch report:
After downloading patch at main Eve-online site. I proceeded to scan for bugs,virus,worms.etc...etc...
Patch installed with 0% problems. Logging in took 15mins. First went to local, alliance, corp, and personel chat channels 0% problems. Font is readable, no funky spaces, no fuzz. 0%
Took a couple of ships out for a spin...0% problems.
jumped a couple of times....0% problems
Docked, open market, wallet, corp hangers, personel hanger, station vaults, hanger vaults. 0% problems.
Rapid switch from one chat to the other...0%
Clonejumped...0%
redone all the above except clone jump. 0%
My system HP510w 382meg memory...Gforce 2400 vid card 256m, soundblaster 32bit. Internet connection 56 kbps.
So my report reads 0% problems with patch and game. With a long log in time, as to be expected on patch days.
99% failure in player base reporting strange things, that I could not duplicate. Or as we say here "Lockheed Fixed" Short for "Operator error"
Dont mind me I am just trying to catch up to DS and HK on the boards.... |

How about just taking the font back to the way it used to be which worked fine for a very long time. I'd also like to see Kali delayed until every bug has been properly fixed. The problem at the moment as i see it is there is a constant influx of new stuff into the game which fair enough will have bugs but don't add more until those are properly smoothed over. Is the reason for constantly adding new content to stay competitive with other MMORGs?

As for me i have found 2 issues.
1st issue is with the INFO on devices. I posted a Power Diagnostic System II into chat. some could open the info on it - some not. Other devices work well - info can be opened by all. With trying a ton of devices we found another one which info can't be opened from chat by some corpmates including myself if its posted by someone else. Pseudoelectron Containment Field I - clicked it like 100 times but info doesnt open. And yes ppl post it in chat the right way - with show info option. I am sure there are more devices bugged.
2nd issue - the selection of text in the chat is GONE!! u can copy now what 1 says - but you cant select and copy a conversation!

yes, but it does look hidious.
It was fine how it was pre-patch. infact, it was graet before the RMR patch, when "Warp Drive Active" was a wide, old looking font when you activated warp.
:/

There is an easy fix for this EVE-only problem. Buy a new monitor.
But make sure to test it first with your grafic card. Not all EVE - grafic card - monitor combos do show the technically lacking font system sharp and clear. Especially expensive monitors do have problems. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

Originally by: Stalkin I'd also like to see Kali delayed until every bug has been properly fixed.
Then you would be waiting a very long time. Having a 100% bug-free eve is not a realistic expectation. No software is 100% bug-free, least of all software that has a requirement to constantly adapt to the needs of it's user community.
There's also the issue that, if something is slated to be significantly re-done in Kali, it may actually be easier and faster to just make the new system, and thus fix the bug by proxy, rather than re-doing the current system to fix the bug, and then doing the new system.

I've had a read through the patch notes for this patch, and have found just one thing that could be considered "new stuff". And that's adding a new category to the petition system, which is hardly earth-shattering. Everything else is fixes to stuff that was broken, or balance changes to stuff that was unbalanced.
In fact, the last time we had any significant addition of new stuff was in 3896 (Blood patch). That's 2 patches and nearly 3 months ago. And the vast majority of the changes in that patch were fixes to existing stuff rather than adding new stuff. It's going to be another 4 months until Kali stage 1 hits (assuming the tentative timeline holds), so that's going to be at least 7 months between patches with any significant new stuff in it. And even the patches with significant new stuff in them have numerous fixes to existing stuff in them too. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

'Kali stage 1' is called 'Red Moon Rising' and it hit us back last year.

Wow my copy of eve was installed off the CD about 3 years ago and has been patched with each patch. I've not once reinstalled even after reinstalling WinXp a few times over the years and I have none of the issues most people here compain about.
Font, was fine before and still is fine, and I run eve at 16x12 on a 21" CRT, it's also fine at 1024x768 on a 14.5" tft laptop.

Are you aware of people who suffer Video Induced Motion Sickness? This font issue is similar. Some people get it, some dont. Cant understand why CCP keep fixing something that isnt broken or should be having the least priority. ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT!

I am one of these players who read the forums a lot, but usually dont post much.
This time however, i feel the need to comment on the font. Yes, thats right, never mind the few bugs that were introduced, they're annoying, but CCP will eventually fix them.
Back when RMR came out, I considered the new font broken, but being a patient person, I assumed CCP would fix it eventually.
This new change however made it look absolutely horrible on my screen, its really an eye killer. With others (although they seem not to be too many) thinking the font was fine, this seems to be related to resolution.
I'm not sure if the 5:4 res I'm running is the problem, or if it just needs a very high resolution to look bearable, but PLEASE make a set of selectable fonts and font sizes, so each user can set it to what works best for him. For me, the pre-RMR font worked fine btw, so if that could be one of the available choices, I'd be pretty happy about it.
I cant stress enough how much of a fun-killer this new font is, please make changing the matter a HIGH priority. I know this does sounds weird, but this is my major problem with the game at the moment, much worse than the (re)introduced bugs.

It's hardly a life-threatening problem, but then, despite the pretty graphics, EVE is mostly a text-driven application.
There's just not much you can do without reading, be it menus, item descriptions, the overview, chat - well, mostly everything really. It won't work without a good font, and unfortunately, what exactly is a good font is very subjective. (And it's also hardware dependant, for example antialiased fonts look just horribly fuzzy on CRTs while non-antialiased fonts are a pain on most LCDs.)
Therefore, making the in-game font user configurable would be great - but I can already see people complaining that the game is unusable because they have selected Symbol as default font.

On an unrelated note, the forums seem a bit broken, too: After submitting the above edited text, I got an "No Thread with this ID" - error back. After browsing back to the thread, the edit was in, though.
(Yesterday I also sometimes had the problem that this thread missed it's page navigation, although the overview clearly showed there were several pages in the thread.)
