I resubbed to the game after a long break and apparently either I'm an idiot and I've put a subscription onto an old trial account I had back in the day or all of my characters have just evaporated.
I can still see the characters in my friend's friendlists and also on eve-who but I cannot recall ever owning any other accounts than this one which is empty (apart from this character I created to submit a support ticket). Like I said, I feel like it's possible I've gone and resubbed the wrong account but I seriously don't remember any other usernames than the one I'm using.
I've submitted a support ticket but it's been a few days and I haven't seen a reply. I guess I just wanted to make sure vanishing characters isn't a thing that happens no matter how long you're gone for so I can focus on remembering what the hell my other username was. |

I've heard they clear trial accounts after a few years of complete inactivity, but it wasn't from any official source. Non-trial characters should always be stored in the database.
Maybe try filtering "CCP Games" or "Eve Online" in your email accounts and search among the oldest messages for the signup name of your Eve profile. CCP will be reluctant to tell you the account name if you're inquiring from another account, unless you can verify somehow that you're the same person behind both of them. Hopefully you hear back soon. "For example, if you are thinking about selling a Republic Fleet Firetail as a regular Firetail, be sure that the market volume is high on regular Firetails and that there are plenty of buy/sell contracts for Republic Fleet Firetails. [...] The players most interested in Republic Fleet Firetails are going to be players flying regular ones."-á -- PB |

To my knowledge they have never deleted a character even if they have the right to. But deleted characters will show up in a corporation called... Doomheim? So show info on your character, if it's in a player Corp or NPC Corp they are still around. Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I can't access the e-mail address that is likely linked to the account. It's been a long time since I played and in that time I lost that particular e-mail account so I'm down to basically guessing what I could have possibly called my account until I get it right but that isn't getting me very far.

There's an option to see other accounts associated with the email you used for this account (provided you used the same mail for both) on the account management site. Might be worth checking just in case. |

The character is still "alive" then.
Most likely they are going to ask you for all the information you can potentially give them, such as credit card used, where you lived at that moment, e-mail address.. you get the idea. The more information you can give them, including other characters on the account, the better.
For the petition time. Petitions like this takes some extra time, but i have never heard about someone who genuinely "lost" their account (forgotten password/account name, hacked) who did not manage to get their characters returned to them.

There was another thread like this not long ago and it was confirmed that no character or account has ever been erased from the database by CCP.

If you know your account info but not login, you can petition and ask if CCP can help you regain access to the account. |

I have friends* who "lost" accounts this way. They petitioned CCP to regain access, CCP asked them lots of questions (just like Nightcrawler 85 said), and they ended up getting access to their account again. It can be slow, but it's relatively painless**.

Trial accounts are removed after 6 months of inactivity or when the devs feel like it, whichever is longer.
They can be recovered, but you have to file a petition and deal with the wait... which is a bit silly, since they're what, two weeks of training, max? It'll probably take them a good chunk of that just to get back to you, might as well just reroll. Some things have changed since you last had a go at it, redoing some of the training missions won't hurt anyhow. |
